2012 Audi Q7

I installed the unit on my 2012 Audi Q7 TDI - with Regards to the Trailer Hitch itself = A+. If you plan to install this yourself - pay attention to the 10 out of 10 on the difficulty scale when given the lack of details within the instructions. It took me a good 4 hours to complete, as I kept second guessing the basic instructions provided and searched the blog/youtube etc.. for needed details. The Q7 has 4 screws within each wheel well and 4- 10mm nuts that need to be removed from within the spare tire well. Once all these are removed you have to be very aggressive in order to pull away the Fascia from its wheel well clips/retainers. You must pull away from the vehicle (out to the side with a loud POP) and then towards the rear. There is a plastic support that holds the Fascia to the vehicle at the rear of the wheel wells - the bumper Fascia both clips in and has the screws attached that get removed -it is a tight fit and you cant be gentle. This is where a second pair of hands will help - the wiring harnesses (3 in total -rt side of vehicle) need to be disconnected while you hold the Fascia in the air - not quite long enough to set on ground without pulling things too tight. After the Bumper Fascia "Pops" off - everything is clear from then on.

I then trimmed the Access door/plate with a Dremel and Grinder to fill in all of the extra space (see Picture) - take your time with this = measure twice and cut once because you are on your own as there is no stencil provided.

Warning - The Curt Hitch Receiver does not replace the original/allow for the use of the original Audi Tow eye tool to be used. The tow eye access caps become useless - there are the 2 cap/flaps in the bumper.

Hi Don,Great job on your Q7 and thanks for the details. It gave me the courage of going forward on this. I had put few hitches previously but this one didnt look that simple. Where did you get the wiring harness?I got mine2015 a few month ago and your experience and tips about this car will be very welcome too.ThanksChris

I know that when reinstalling the foam pad that was on top of the bumper beam you will need to trim it as it can push up on the plastic of the bumper if not trimmed. Was this the location you were having trouble with or was it elsewhere?

2009 Audi Q7

Everything went great. From ordering to installation. The videos were extremely helpful. Knowing what tools I needed made install go smooth. It only took me 2 hours by myself to install.

This product is still the best purchase ever for my vehicle. People ask about it all the time and I tell them that I purchased it from etrailer and even installed it myself after watching the video on etrailers site. Even my auto dealer complimented my hitch even though I didnt purchase from them. Ive connected a simple bike rack to a more sturdier bike rack to haul 4 bikes. Love this hitch.

Audi Q7

I’m very pleased with the hitch. I was able to install it on my Q7 in about 1 1/2 to 2 hours, and found the installation instructions to be very straightforward. The trickiest part was removing the bumper cover, so I just took my time and followed the instructions carefully. So far, so good.

by:
2014 Audi Q7

The YouTube video from etrailer was great, it help me put my hitch on the Audi without no background on mechanic with the help of my 12 years son. I plan to use it for the bike rack
Thank you guys for the product

2011 Audi Q7

Great Hitch, fit perfectly as advertised. Did it at night with my friend and it took us 2 hours to install . Perhaps in the light of day it would have been easier. Instructions need to be updated as there were screws we and nuts that we ended up figuring out ourselves. Better instructions would have allowed us to install even faster because part of the time was spend looking for the reason bumper wasn't coming off.

Can't wait to use my newly installed hitch. Thanks etrailer.com!!!

I ordered this Curt hitch for the mighty Touareg (2010 V6 gasser). Shipping & delivery were great. I took an afternoon to install it using the great directions from Curt and from etrailer.com. The hitch is exactly what you expect, looks great, and doesn't stick out too far from the Touareg. We've used it for our 4-bike Hollywood rack (also bought here on etrailer) and it's been awesome!

by:
2010 Audi Q7

Installation is pretty straight forward and easy. It took me around 3 hours to complete the whole installation. It could have been a lot less if I had electric or pneumatic tools.

by:
2005 Porsche Cayenne

Took me half a day to install, but I'm in no hurry. The cutout for the plastic fascia on my 2005 Porsche Cayenne needed to be 4 x 8 inches.

Fast Shipping, We received hitch a day sooner than expected. We have ordered parts from etrailer multiple times. Thanks, B&W Auto Body.

Showed up damaged, in the box. Powder coating/paint scratched. Unsightly and a corrosion risk. I will sand and repaint -- a time investment I did not expect with a new product.

2005 Porsche Cayenne

2005 Porsche Cayenne S - Easy bolt on solution, did it in 2 hours, nothing particularly tricky.. used a cutting wheel on the plastic to trim around hitch area while the bumper was off. other than that, it was totally straight forward. instructions are adequate, shipping was fast, and most importantly, i save $2200 by not taking it to the dealer. what a joke what they try to to charge.

by:
2008 Volkswagen Touareg

Great hitch! Install on '08 VW Touareg was easier than I had expected...etrailer you tube video install how to was invaluable! We've pulled trailers with ease to/from AZ and IL.

by:

Nicely made and heavy duty. But pushing the bumper up like 1/4 inch. So make a dent on the bumper.
And a chain hookup is to deep. And sticking out on the side like big ears. So hard to mount the wiring harness.
Bottom line. It is BAD design.
I end to buy a use oem.

by:

I like the product. Josh from etrailer was very helpful! I install it myself and save a couple hundred if I bring it to a shop for install. It was installed on a 2006 Cayenne. You would have to trim your bumper to get the hitch to stick out. Overall I’m very satisfied with my purchase. I have not connected the wiring for the tail/turn/brake lights module yet. It’s going to be use for bike rack for now anyway.

by:
2009 Volkswagen Touareg

Packaged great! Very easy to install, I have taken the front bumper off. That helped me when taking the rear bumper off. I knew what to look for. I can not stress enough how easy this was to install!! The manufacture bumper came off no problems and the hitch looks great! Sorry I did not think to take a picture.... I guess I completed the job to quick! Save yourself some money and buy this and do it yourself. I spent around $***. The local hitch installer wanted almost $500.

by:

Product arrived in a timely manner, great price point. This is the third hitch and wiring kit I have purchased form etrailer.com. The help videos made it clear how to install hitch and wiring kits. I am a very satisfied customer and will returning here for the next one.

by:
2004 Porsche Cayenne

Fitment was perfect on a 2004 Porsche Cayenne Turbo. The bolts provided did not fit (wrong thread size), but the OEM bolts were fine. The bumper cover required trimming, I used a die-cutter air tool. The finished product came out looking extremely clean, like a factory fit... and was significantly more affordable than the OEM Porsche hitch.

by:

Love my trailer hitch. It was easy to install and performed perfectly. Towed a 5X9 enclosed haul trailer from San Jose Ca. to Prescott Az.... no problem!

by:
2006 Volkswagen Touareg

I ordered this receiver hitch for my 2006 VW touareg. It is very durable and good quality! Only recommendation would be to have some help with starting the bolts for the installation, it can be heavy to hold and try to put the bolts in when you're by yourself. (It can be done though as I did). I look forward to putting the hitch to use!

by:
2010 Volkswagen Touareg

Everything about it is good. It fit perfect. Just a tiny bit of surface rust starting after a year in salty Michigan in the receiver area where paint had been slightly rubbed off. Nothing that wouldn't happen on any hitch.

by:

The Curt trailer hitch is super easy to install. Haven't towed anything with it yet. But it's definitely a solid hitch and I don't foresee any problems towing a trailer. I spoke with Dena on the phone and she handled a return and was a huge help in finding what I was looking for. She also followed up to check on the installation. Top notch customer service!

  • Trailer Hitch and Brake Controller Recommendation for 2004 Volkswagen Touareg
If your 2004 Volkswagen Touareg came with a factory 7-way trailer connector, then the additional brake control harness that you will need must be obtained from a Volkswagen dealer. Unfortunately aftermarket brake controller manufacturers do not offer this harness. The harness will plug into a mating connector underneath the drivers side dash and splice to the wires coming from the brake controller. If your vehicle does not come with any trailer wiring you would need to first need to start...

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13220 which fits your 2006 Porsche Cayenne is attached with eight M12x1.5, CL10.9 hex head bolts. It also uses flat washers and lock washers to secure it in place. If you are needing replacement hardware you can order it all through our Replacement Hardware Kit # RHK. You will need to input the hitch number when ordering the hardware to verify you get the correct hardware for your specific receiver. I recommend installing the 4-Way # C59236 when you install...

The reason being that per the Curt warranty a Support Strap # 18050 must be used for any non-trailer loads like a bike rack or cargo carrier. The Draw-Tite option does not have the same requirements. In that case you would use a ball mount with a 2-1/2 inch drop, or as close to that as possible, for a level coupler height of 16 inches.
