I spoke with my contact at Curt about Trailer Hitch # 13220. He stated that on your 2004 Volkswagen Touareg the rear panel that is removed for hitch installation cannot be re-installed. The receiver will be in the way.
What I recommend is a hitch cover. We have many hitch covers from the simple like # C22272, to the functional like # CR-600. I have included a link to our hitch cover main page for you to view. If you find one you like, make sure that it is compatible with a 2 inch trailer hitch receiver.
