Question:
Looking for a trailer hitch for my 2008 Porsche Cayenne, to haul a small utility trailer such as sold at home depot or costco. I think thats class 2, 500 lb max GTW. How do i the right hitch and get it installed?

In order to tow a trailer with your 2008 Porsche Cayenne you are going to need a trailer hitch receiver, trailer wiring harness, and ball mount/hitch ball. For a trailer hitch receiver, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 13220 as long as you do not have a trunk mounted spare tire. This is actually the only hitch we have for your vehicle. It has a Class III rating with a 2" receiver tube opening. The 6,000 lb gross trailer weight (GTW) and 600 lb (TW) would be more than sufficient for your trailer. However, you will need to check your owner's manual for the vehicle's towing capacity as the lower of the two (hitch/vehicle) will be your limiting factor.
In regards to installation, the process will be rather involved with install times around 3 hours depending on skill level. With that being said, I do recommend professional installation. Most local repair shops should be able to handle the task but if you have an RV service center nearby, that would be preferred.
In order to activate the trailer's lights you will need a trailer wiring harness. For this, I recommend using the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 119250KIT. Ths harness will be less cost effective than the other option we have for your vehicle but it will not require you to cut or splice any wires as the other alternative would. You can get a better idea of what all is involved in the attached review video on a similar vehicle.
Then for a ball mount/hitch ball, you will need to do a bit of measuring. You can use the attached help article to determine the ball mount you need to look for and then the attached selection to choose the one that matches what you need. Something like the Curt Class III Ball Mount with 2" Ball part # C45036 should work well.
