Weight Distribution and Brake Controller for a 2007 Audi Q7
Question:
I tow a Trailmanor 2720 ~4000lbs with a weight distribution hitch ... it was a bit too heavy for my 02 Acura MDX which was rated for 3500lbs. I now have an 07 Audi Q7 and need to add a receiver. A couple of questions... 1 the receiver listed on your pages for the Q7 said weight distribution: not available... What does that actually mean? Will it work with my trailer and wd hitch? 2 The Q7 says pre-wired for towing. Do you know if the brake controller is actually built in to the car I doubt it, but someone told me it might be. 3 Assuming that I do need a brake controller... is there an elegant model or good way/place to install one of those... My MDX had a controller installed to the right of the steering wheel where my right leg often hits it on entry/exit. Its ok, just a bit ugly/awkward and was wondering it there is an alternative. thanks

The hitch for the Audi Q7 does not have a weight distribution rating because the Curt hitch will not increase the weight capacity by adding the system as some hitches do. So you can install the weight distribution, however the weight capacity will stay at 6,000 lbs which is plenty for your application.
As far as the brake controller, you will not have a controller installed in the vehicle, but you may have the vehicle pre-wired for a controller. This means there may be a harness from the factory/dealer that will plug in under the dash and then you can splice the controller directly into that. One of our all-time best selling brake controller is the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, part # 90885. The P2 works very well, and it's also easy to set up and use. The brake controller needs to be installed so that it is within easy reach of the driver.
I've linked to a video showing the hitch being installed on a 2007 VW Touareg. The procedure on your Q7 will be very similar.

Im told that the Tekonsha RF Wireless brake controller is a good option for the Q7. With this system you do not need to touch the vehicle wiring to use the brake controller. You calibrate the system using a 12v power outlet if this becomes unplugged while driving the system is not comprimised.
