Recommended Weight Distribution Setup for a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Towing a Coachman Viking

Question:

I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7L that I want to use to pull a Coachman Viking 16FB trailer with. Gross Wt = 3538# Hitch Wt = 318# What Weight Distributing Hitch would you recommend for that setup?

To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.

Based on your Coachman Viking trailer gross weight of 3,538 pounds and tongue weight on your trailer could be as much as 353-531 pounds (10-15 percent tongue weight), the weight distribution setup I recommend is the Reese Strait-Line weight distribution system with sway control # RP66082. The weight distribution system does not have a tongue weight of 200-600 but works with trailers with that tongue weight range.

This system will include the head assembly, adjustable shank, spring bars, spring-bar platforms, lift handle, pin and clip and all the necessary hardware. If you happen to need a hitch ball, go with Curt 2-5/16 inch hitch ball # A-6.

I think you will like the integrated sway control because it will prevent sway on your trailer.

I have included a FAQ for you as well.
