Video Transcript for Brophy Hitch Ball - Trailer Hitch Ball - SC30-C Review

Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Brophy 2 5/16 hitch ball. A hitch ball is going to provide a connection point for your trailer's coupler. The unit features find threads; it's going to have 14 threads per inch. That's going to really provide a nice, tight, strong grip. The unit is a durable stainless steel construction that's highly resistant to rust and corrosion, and it's going to feature a nice polished finish to provide a sleek, attractive look. On the sides, you'll notice that it has a flat spot on each side. That's going to be the wrench flats that allow you to use a wrench to hold the ball in place during installation.

It also comes with your lock washer and the nut, so those are included. The ball diameter again is 2 5/16 of an inch, but we'll take a look at the shank dimensions if we take a measurement of the actual diameter first. This is going to give us a diameter of 1 inch. Shank length is 2 1/2 inches and the capacity on the unit is 8,000 pounds. The way this installs is you put it through the mounting surface, like a ball mount or draw bar hole. Lock washer goes on, followed by the nut, and then you just need to tighten it down according to the specifications listed by the manufacturers, and that's all going to be on the packaging or instructions that come with the unit.

That's going to do it for today's look at the Brophy 2 5/16 hitch ball with a 8,000 pound capacity.

The products I received was what I expected, but the service during the purchase was not. Once I ordered the product, I received and email that the ball hitch was on back order from the mfg. I tried calling the number on the email and only got a voice, which was never returned. Also I email that person and never got a return email. Afer several weeks I called and talked to another sales rep., she took all the info. and was going to get back with me and never did. But several days after the phone call with her the parts were being shipped. You sales people need to keep the customer updated in some fashion...Again the products were great.....

I am submitting this review even though all of your customers MUST know you have one of the best, if not THE best, trailer company in the USA. You have the best products, the best selection for various applications, and no other company can beat your prices... I already purchased a lot of your products and believe me when I say I did extensive research on the exact same products before submitting my orders due to my limited funds. All of your staff are kind, courteous, patient (when it comes to helping a trailer-newbie, such as myself) understanding, very knowledgeable, and professional. Submitting an order is easy, and all of my various orders where shipped almost instantaneously and arrived on schedule. You are the best... and then, there are all the rest! Thank you for having such a great operation!

This is one good looking hitch ball, almost hate to put a coupler on it. I needed the longer shaft, 2 1/2 " to fit a weight distribution system and this was the best 1" shaft I found. A bit pricey but the finer threads and quality construction added a larger max weight, 8000 lbs. Again great service from etrailer.

by:

Got the ball as scheduled. A little disappointed. The Stainless Steel ball looks great, but they send a regular steel nut and lock washer. Not even galvanized. Being in a salt water environment this wouldn't take long to rust up. It's rated for 8,000 lb. and that's hard to find. Most are only rated at 6000 lbs.

by:

Arrived on time thank you!

by:

I have several trailers and run all the time. I was using balls that would rust, stick, and make a lot of noise. Switching to this SS ball was such a game changer. It will never rust, and trailers seem to slip on and off with ease. Highly recommend!

by:

It’s round, holds the trailer behind me and doesn’t rust

by:

As always fast fast delivery, product was spot on.

Thanks etrailer.com

by:

Was expecting the whole ball and nut would be stainless. Not the nut or washer! So it will still rust and be difficult to remove.

by:

What can you say about a hitch ball except best price and received it in three days.

by:

As described. Very heavy construction fine threaded shank is nice and smooth. High quality product.

This ball is exactly what I was looking for.

  • Are Nut And Washer Included With Brophy Hitch Ball SC30-C Stainless Steel
The washer and nut included with the Brophy Hitch Ball, part # SC30-C are not stainless steel as the hitch ball is. We do not offer a stainless hitch ball nut or washer. You may be able to find them at a local hardware store. The shank on this hitch ball is 1-inch diameter and the shank has fine threads(14 threads per inch).

  • Recommended High Capacity 2-5/16" Hitch Ball With 1" Diameter Shank
For a 2-5/16" ball with a 1" diameter shank, and the highest capacity/longest shank, we have the B&W # BWHB94001. This has a 2-1/2" long shank and a capacity of 12,000 lbs. This has heat-treated steel and a raw finish. For the same length shank but slightly less capacity at 8,000 lbs we also have the stainless steel Brophy # SC30-C. For a more budget friendly ball we have the Curt # C40007. This has a 2-1/4" long shank and a 10,000 lb capacity.

  • Best Ball Mount for 5 Inch Rise in 2 Inch Trailer Hitch Receiver
The best ball mount that will give you 5 inches of rise is the Brophy Ball Mount # EA60. This ball mount is made from solid aluminum, which means no welded-on parts that can create weak spots, and also means it isn't going to corrode like steel can. This mount has an 8,000 lb capacity which is more than enough for the large majority of towing needs. For a hitch ball you will need either the 2" Hitch Ball # SC23-C or 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # SC30-C. Then to secure the # EA60 to your hitch,...

  • Can Sway Control Bracket RP26003 be Used with a 2-5/16 Inch Ball
As long as the shank of your 2-5/16 inch ball is 1 inch it will fit sway control bracket # RP26003. Even if the ball mount you are using has a larger hole you can still use the bracket with a ball that has a 1 inch diameter shank, such as # SC30-C, by using a special bushing, # F-2, which will reduce a 1-1/4 inch ball hole down to a 1 inch.

  • Is 2 Inch Hitch Ball Okay to Use With 2-5/16 Inch Coupler
While I can sympathize with your issue, it is not safe to tow a trailer if you only have a 2" hitch ball and your trailer coupler is designed for a 2-5/16" hitch ball, even for a short distance; the insecure connection between hitch ball and coupler would pose a danger to others because of the risk of the trailer becoming uncoupled from the tow vehicle. The correct 2-5/16" hitch ball will depend on the shank diameter you need as well as capacity. Your ball mount will have a hole where...

  • Availability of Multi-Ball Ball Mounts
It sounds like you are looking for a stainless-steel adjustable ball mount with multiple hitch balls. We offer 2-1/2-inch polished billet aluminum ball mounts like # WS6-25 with a built-in tongue weight scale and 2 hitch balls, and also powder-coated steel ball mounts like # C45900, but nothing in all stainless-steel. You can use the linked page to see all ball mounts. Filters let you select your hitch size, either 2-inch or 2-1/2-inch, to then see the ball mounts that will fit that hitch.

  • Does Hitch Ball Come Mounted to Brophy Ball Mount with 4 Drop or 3 Rise
A hitch ball does not come mounted to the Brophy Ball Mount with 4" Drop or 3" Rise # EA40, and there is not a way to get that as an option. For the hitch balls that work with this mount, either the 2" Hitch Ball # EH68C-C or 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # SC30-C, you will need to torque them to 250 ft-lbs according to Brophy. If for some reason you are unable to get that installed yourself, a local installer should be able to tighten the hitch ball to the necessary ft-lbs. I have added a link...

The Brophy Ball Mount - 7" Rise, 8" Drop - 15-1/4" Long - Aluminum - 8,000 lbs # EA80 is only rated for a tongue weight of 800 lbs which most trailer hitch receivers won't be able to handle but most gooseneck trailers will exceed. Gooseneck trailers typically use the 2-5/16 inch hitch ball like # SC30-C that is also the size used with larger bumper pull trailers, however it is not recommended to tow a gooseneck trailer behind your bumper as they are designed to be towed over the rear axle...

  • Is Aluminum Ball Mount Compatible With Stainless Steel Hitch Ball For 2 Inch Hitch
Yes, you can absolutely use an aluminum ball mount with a stainless steel hitch ball without worry of the ball mount corroding. In fact, there are no aluminum hitch balls so manufacturers suggest the use of stainless steel as it is going to be the best option work in conjunction with an aluminum ball mount. So what you will need depends on the rise or drop your trailer requires: - 1" Rise, 2" Drop: Curt Ball Mount for 2" Hitches # C74WR - 3" Rise, 4" Drop: Curt Ball Mount for 2" Hitches...
