Video Transcript for B and W Hitch Ball - Trailer Hitch Ball - BWHB94005 Review

Today we are going to take a look at the BMW 2-5/16" Hitch Ball with the 1" rise, the long shank, has a raw finish and has a 30,000 lb weight capacity. This Hitch Ball will provide a nice connection point for your trailer's coupler, has the built in rise here that will let you easily match the ball to your trailer height. Basically this ball will sit about an extra inch above the ball mount platform when it is installed. The shank itself uses about 12 threads per inch on the shank. This will provide a nice, tight strong grip when it is installed. This is a heat-treated steel which is very durable, has a nice raw finish to it. The lock washer and the nut are all included. This part is made in the USA.

A few specs on this; the ball diameter is 2-5/16 and that is actually even stamped on the top of the ball. The weight is stamped up here, it has a weight capacity of 30,000 lbs. The rise portion we mentioned is going to be 1 inch and then the shank dimensions, the total length of the shank is going to be right at 2-3/4 inches long and the diameter on it is going to be right at 1-1/2 inches. When you go to install this, you'll just drop the shank portion through the hole on the ball mount, put your lock washer on, take your large nut right and tighten that down and just use the torque specs that are recommended for that application. That should do it for the review of the BMW 2-5/16 Hitch Ball with the 1" rise, a long shank and a raw finish and a 30,000 lb weight capacity.

Has been a great hitch for the custom gooseneck plate I made for my semi toy hauler set up. Highly recommend to anyone needing something like this. The 1” raise was a huge help with clearance between my plate and the hitch when going big dips and transitions.

s a full tim RVer, I've had the hitch now for about 14 months and have to say with the exception of it not coming apart on me, I'm pretty disappointed with the condition. Ive got about 10k plus miles on it. See attached photos. Its very noisy. It likes to slam forward and aft. They put pucks on the side to side but not forward to aft. The paint almost immediately started to flake with in one month of use and continued to..to-date. The bolt holding the yoke preventing forward and aft movement sherred with only 80 inch lbs of torque...twice. the factory and the replacement they sent me. Finally I had to upgrade the bolt to a harder bolt to alow me to get to the required torque of 100 inch pounds. The bolt has to be torqued every trip. Long trips...every day. The design distributes the load on the flat bed and bends bends the bed. Unfortunately, there is not much out there to choose from so its give and take. Its done the job but would like to see it hold up better and see some design changes. I just ordered a new base today so we will see how it does.

Used this hitch ball for a custom gooseneck hitch I made for a semi, the original was to short so in external articulation I would scrap the gooseneck and hitch. Buy this ball with the 1” lift in it really helped and I can’t get the hitch to hit anymore! Working great

The B&W 30,000 pound ball is an excellent no-frills option. It's extremely durable. We prefer to use the nut AND weld the base to the mounting plate. Reliability and durability are important for our needs. We have a few one ton trucks and several trailers. This ball exceeds the weight rating of every piece of equipment. It's a great option for our needs. Please remember to chock your trailer.

by:

The only place I could find the right size shank, and fast shipping! Plan on pulling heavy equipment and the ball i ordered is rated for 30k lbs. Thats the best one i found. Highly recommend this company

by:

This ball is made by BW, good quality. The recommended torque is over 500lbs. Not sure how I am supposed to do that

It is a daunting task to torque it to 500 ft pds. You most likely do not have a torque wrench rated up to 500 foot pounds on hand. When tightening the ball you want to make sure you get the lock washer so that it is completely flat. One way to help you do this is to put the ball mount in your hitch receiver sideways so the hole is vertical. Then install the ball that way. So you can use something to hold the ball with one hand and torque the nut with the other. Another way is to hold the ball in a vice, if you have one. You can wrap a thick rag around the ball so whatever you are holding it with does not damage it.

Ball is excellent !!! Well built , and had the tow rating I was after with 1 1/2 shank and with the rise I needed to get up a little higher out of my bed! I made my own hitch and this ball was exactly what I was after . If you need a threaded shank this ball works great for gooseneck hitch ! I also went with basic shipping and it took 3 days to my door !! etrailer did a great job sending me email updates and prompt processing. I do reccomend using them !

  • 2-5/16 Inch Trailer Hitch Balls With 1-1/2 Inch Diameter Shank
We have 2-5/16 inch hitch balls with a 1-1/2 inch diameter shank. You asked about a 3-1/2 inch long shank. The hitch balls we offer all have 2-3/4 inch long shanks. The closest we have for the dimensions you asked about is part # BWHB94005 which has a 1-inch rise, but as I mentioned has a 2-3/4 inch long shank.

  • Shank Dimensions of B & W Hitch Ball part # BWHB94005
The length of the shank on the B and W Hitch ball part # BWHB94005 that you referenced is 2-3/4 inches and the diameter if 1-1/2 inch. The portion of the shank where the threads stop is less than an inch so if you installed this through a 1 inch thick metal plate this could still easily torque down as needed.

  • 30k Hitch Ball that Can be Used in Fixed Ball Mount for 2 inch Hitches
There isn't a ball mount that fits a 2 inch hitch that has a ball diameter of 1-1/2 inch like what the part # BWHB94005 needs as this ball was designed for use as a gooseneck ball. For a similar 30k capacity hitch ball that has a shank diameter of 1-1/4 inch you'd want the Curt part # C40085 which you could use with a ball mount like the Curt # C45341 which has a drop of 4 inches.

  • What Size Wrench is Used for Nut of B and W Hitch Ball # BWHB94005
I checked with B and W and the wrench size needed to tighten the nut of the B and W Hitch Ball part # BWHB94005 is 1-1/2 inch. We have the Draw Tite hitch ball part # 19286 that is a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball that does not have any rise built into it. This does have a smaller diameter shank at 1-1/4 inch opposed to the 1-1/2 inch of the B and W. We don't have any hitch balls in the size you need that have no rise built into the ball that have a shank diameter of 1-1/2 inch.

  • What Are The Differences Between Standard Trailer Hitch And Gooseneck Hitch Balls
The size of the hitch ball itself is the same but there are differences between the standard hitch balls and a gooseneck ball. The shank on a standard hitch ball like the hitch ball you came from, part # BWHB94005, is threaded so that the nut can be used to tighten it to the balll mount. On a gooseneck ball they are typically designed to fit a specific gooseneck hitch. For example, a hitch ball for a B&W Turnover Gooseneck Hitch like part # BWGNXA2005 has a square shank that is a specific...

  • What 4-1/2 Thread Per Inch Coarse Thread Hitch Balls Are Available?
The 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # C40088 and # BWHB94009 are the only hitch balls we carry with the 4-1/2" thread per inch coarse thread. These will not have the riser ball like you are looking for. These balls have a 2" diameter shank. For a riser ball you would have to look at the 2-5/16" Hitch Ball w/ 1" Rise # BWHB94005 or 2-5/16" Hitch Ball w/ 2" Rise # BWHB94006. These have fine threads 12 per inch and only a 1-1/2" diameter shank.
