Today, we're going to be taking a look at the 3" wide continuous steel hinge. It's going to measure 6' long. This is also called a piano hinge. These type of hinges are used for a variety of applications. You'll find them on tool boxes, different types of flaps, and they are commonly used for trailer ramp doors. Now, this one in particular is made from a mild steel construction. It is strong and durable, and it will resist rust and corrosion.
It's not going to do as great of a job as stainless steel, but it's still going to do a good job. It's still a nice design, mild steel. The unit's going to rotate 270 degrees, so it's going to allow for full opening. I do want you to notice that there's no predrilled holes on the unit. What that does is it makes it easier for welding applications, and it makes it easier to kind of customize it for your application.
That way, you can drill out the holes where you need them to best fit your particular application. Right now, the hinge is completely flat. If we take a measurement of that in this position, edge-to-edge, that's going to measure 3" wide. The internal pin size . There going to be a that runs right through all these knuckles here. That pin's going to give us a diameter of 1/4".
The gauge of steel that the hinge uses for its construction is 0.074". Then the over all length of the unit, measuring from edge to edge, is right on 72" which again is going to measure 6' long. Now this can be cut to fit your need. You can cut it anywhere along. I do recommend cutting right between where the knuckles separate. The knuckle links, that's each one of these pieces right here.
The knuckle links on the unit's going to be 1" long. That's going to do it for today's look at the 3" wide continuous steel hinge that measures 6' long.

Would’ve given this 5 stars if it was pre drilled. Shipping was massive and not packed that well. I ever said this cuts easily was wrong. I had to cut mine to fit my 6x12 with my angle grinder, and it was not as easy as I read about.

I needed an additional fold-over ramp for my enclosed trailer's ramp. This piano-style hinge filled the bill perfectly. Used it quite a bit, and it's made loading and unloading the trailer much easier. Great price. Durable. Easy to cut to size.

I use the hinge for a ramp extension allowing to wheel thing into the trailer.
The hinge is strong and does the job well.
Keep in mind that this is NOT a stainless steel component and will incur some corrosion if not treated.

I used this hinge to make a ramp extension for the back of my toy-houler. I added a 6' wide, 3' long extension made of 3/4 inch plywood. I was able to drive my 900 pound Goldwing up the ramp and into the tralier without the grounding problem I had on my first attempt. This hinge came without pre drilled holes, which was a nice feature as I could space them where I wanted them. A word caution may be warranted. If you are planning to have your application fold flat, then stagger your holes so the bolt/screw heads to not butt up against each other.

Bought 2, one for the top and bottom of the ramp door to our trailer to mount flaps for ease of rolling toolboxes and carts onto and off of the trailer. We don't use it much, but they have held up to 900lb toolboxes rolling over them without an issue.

Too soon to tell Looks heavy duty compared to Orig hinge Use is for transition flap on drop gate. Note shipping tube damaged /split. Needs a bit of wood strapping taped to hinge to prevent possible bent hinge.

I bought this hinge to put barn doors on my shed, I go in and out twice a week working on a project truck these hinges have performed exactly like I needed them to. They open the 180°, so when the weather is nice the doors are open.

Everything arrived in good condition as product was described. I only had a small problem with one of the latched for the cam-door lock. It was binding on the top and not allowing it to swing down. Nothing a little lubrication couldn't fix. Thank you, I will be placing another order soon.

- Is a Piano Style Hinge Good for Making a Flap in a Trailer Ramp DoorSteel hinge # SH300 should work well for a flap on your trailer. You can't get a custom length but if you need 67 inches then # SH300 would be the one to get. You can trim it to the length needed. Between you and me, go with # H300. It is exactly the same only it is mild steel. The other one, # SH300, is stainless steel. That is why there is a big price difference.
