The instructions are poor. Which way does the bottom bracket go, channel facing up or down?

The mounting plate/channel for the Brophy # SPTC Stake Pocket Spare Mount is installed with the flat part facing up and the channel part facing down. I have attached a demonstration video showing the orientation.
