How to Properly Measure for Cut-Out Dimension
There are two main dimensions you need to know when choosing a replacement access door or adding a new one to your RV:
The cut-out diameter is the width of the circle needed to ensure the access door mounts flush to the wall of your RV.
The mounting depth is the depth needed behind the mounting surface for the access door's hatch to properly fit.

Ellen: Hey everyone, I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com. Today we're taking a quick look at the replacement access hatch for your RVs. So this is going to be a nice flush design that allows us to have a sealed up access hole for anything like plumbing, electrical connections, maybe some cargo or other hose compartments. Basically, anything where you want a nice sealed up opening that you can then access by just turning the lid here. It does have a little embossed label for open and closed, so you can remember which direction will open or close that access. There's a gasket around the inside lip to keep water in or out of your system so you don't have to worry about rain and snow, sleet getting into the compartment, but it also keeps anything from leaking out as well.
It's made out of a plastic construction that's going to be impact and UV resistant. So we shouldn't have to worry about any cracking or fading. As far as measurements, our overall diameter is about 5 and 3/4 inches to the outside edge. The opening that the lid encompasses, it's about 5 and 1/2 inches. Our rough opening or the cutout opening is going to be about 4 and 1/2 as well, and the distance between our mounting holes, center to center just about 5 and 1/8th inch. As far as the thickness for what's going to stick up above our mounting surface is just about 1/4 of an inch.
So a pretty nice flat design. The mounting holes looks like they have a diameter of about 1/8th of an inch, so as long as you get some counter-sunk hardware, some flat-top screws should work out pretty well. It does not come with any hardware to mount it, so you will have to pick that up on your own. But that's about all there is to it for our look at the replacement access hatch. If you need any other accessories or replacement parts for your RV, we do have a lot of options here at etrailer.com, so definitely check them out.
Thanks for watching and we'll see you next time.
