How to Properly Measure for Cut-Out Dimension
There are two main dimensions you need to know when choosing a replacement access door or adding a new one to your RV:
The cut-out diameter is the width of the circle needed to ensure the access door mounts flush to the wall of your RV.
The mounting depth is the depth needed behind the mounting surface for the access door's hatch to properly fit.

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Valterra Electric Cable Hatch for RV's. This is for use with RV electrical cables up to thirty amps. It's going to come with the installation putty tape and the necessary hardware. The screw heads are painted to match the color of the hatch. Now the hatch door, the large door, it actually swings open, so you can rotate the small one out of the way. This swings open and gives you plenty of access, and it snaps shut. Then it's got this rotating door right here that allows the cable to pass through when the main hatch door is closed.
You can close that and it's also going to keep unwanted items out of the stored area when the cable is not being used. When it comes to the overall dimensions, it's going to give us a width measurement of around four inches. It's going to give us a height measurement of around four and one quarter. Then it's going to give an overall depth measurement of around two and one eighth of an inch. Now it does require a cut out at the mounting location. That cut out needs to have a diameter of right around three inches.
This is white in color. You can see that it has three mount holes. The mount hole separation center on center between these two holes, that's going to measure right on three inches, and then diagonal measurement between the top and bottom, we're looking at about three and three eighths. That would be the same for this set as well. Now with this rotated out of the way, this small hole right here is going to give you a diameter of about a three quarters of an inch. Then the large hole, this is going to give a diameter measurement of around two and five eighths of an inch.
Then a depth of one and seven eighths. That's going to do it for today's look at the Valterra Electric Cable Hatch for RV's.
