What is a Coaxial Speaker?
A coaxial speaker consists of a large main speaker (woofer) that reproduces bass sounds, and a separate small speaker (tweeter) that mounts above the woofer and reproduces high frequency sounds. Unlike dual-cone speakers that only use one driver to push sound through two attached cones (woofer and tweeter), a coaxial speaker has separate drivers for the woofer and tweeter along with a built-in crossover to control the frequencies sent to each speaker. This reduces distortion and allows for crisper, more articulate sound over dual-cone speakers.
How to Properly Measure for Cut-Out Dimension
There are two main dimensions you need to know when choosing a replacement speaker or adding a new speaker or speakers to your audio setup:
The cut-out diameter is the width of the circle needed to ensure the speaker mounts flush to the wall or ceiling.
The mounting depth is the depth needed behind the mounting surface for the speaker's frame and magnet structure to fit.

Ellen: Hey, everybody. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com and we're going to be taking a quick look at the Jensen marine speaker. This is going to be a coaxial recess mount speaker for your boats, you can also use these for your RVs. The nice thing about a Marine-graded speaker is that it's meant for much harsher conditions like being out on the water and anything that has to deal with salt has to be pretty durable, so you can rest assured this should last you a long time. Something that's nice about the coaxial design is that it usually gives you a better sound since the subwoofer and the tweeter speakers are on their own, or they move separately from each other, so that gives you a better dynamic range of sound from this guy. It does, again, have that recessed mount, so a lot of this is going to be stashed kind of behind the speaker.
So, let's take a closer look. I'll give you some measurements to make sure that this is going to be the right fit for your particular application, especially if you're trying to replace an existing speaker.So, as you can see, it looks pretty nice, pretty simple design here. The outside width is about six inches in diameter going from outside edge to outside edge. If we go to the inside here or the cutout size, it looks like it's about four and 3/8ths of an inch, and then about a half inch deep. That might be actually more like four and a half inches in diameter there.Again, it is rated for marine use, so it should be up to the standards for salt spray exposure and also UV exposure.
It's just a simple bolt on design, so you see we have those four holes there. The distance between those, center on center, is about three and 7/8ths inches. Does not come with any mounting hardware, so that is something that you will have to pick up on your own. And that's pretty much all there is to it for our quick look at the Jensen marine speaker.I hope that this has been helpful in deciding if this is the right choice for you. These speakers were an exact (size) replacement for a pair of Magnadyne speakers in my camper but with better technical specs. So far, so good.

A year later and these speakers are still doing well. They are mounted on the outside of my camper and since the original ones got eaten alive by UVs, I keep two plastic coffee can lids taped over them when the camper is just stored in the driveway. Industry really just needs to integrate a flip-up protective covercap for this type of speaker.
Ordered to use on outside of camper working good.
