Note: This dual-arm rack reduces the need for a bike frame adapter bar (sold separately) to mount a children's, women's, or alternative frame bicycle. However, to mount certain bikes or to keep your bike level on the rack, a bike adapter bar may be required. Most step-through bikes, dual-suspension bikes, and small children's bikes will require a bike adapter bar.

The sturdy, hitch-mounted Yakima BackRoad lets you transport 4 bikes on the back of your vehicle. The rack has dual arms that offer excellent bike support and anti-sway cradles with ZipStrip ratcheting cradle straps for quick and easy bike loading. The mast tilts away from your vehicle for cargo area access. And installation is simple with an included anti-rattle pin that secures the rack to your vehicle.

Folding Dual Support Arms with Quick-Release Lever

Yakima 8002702 BackRoad Dual Folding Arms

The BackRoad has dual arms that provide your bikes with excellent support and ground clearance during transport.

Yakima 8002702 BackRoad Folding Arms

The arms fold flat against the mast for parking clearance and compact storage. To fold them down, pull the grey quick-release lever on top of the mast. When you're ready to load bikes again, simply lift the arms back up until they lock into place with an audible click.

Anti-Sway Cradles with Ratcheting ZipStrip Straps

Yakima 8002702 BackRoad Anti-Sway Cradles

The BackRoad has anti-sway cradles that grip your bike frame at 3 different points - twice along the top bar and once along the downward bar, such as a seat post. This third point of contact helps to prevent sway and bike-to-bike contact.

Yakima 8002702 BackRoad ZipStrip Ratcheting Straps

Ratcheting ZipStrips let you quickly and easily secure your bikes in the cradles. These straps require none of the tugging and stretching that conventional straps require. Simply insert the strap into the buckles on the cradle and push it down until it's snug around your bike frame. The ZipStrips can be removed quickly by pressing the release levers on the side of each anti-sway cradle.

A layer of TPE padding on each cradle absorbs road shock and minimized vibrations

Tilting Rack with Spring Pin

Yakima 8002702 BackRoad Tilt for Rear Cargo Access

The rack tilts for easy access to your vehicle's rear cargo area. Just pull the spring pin at the base of the mast, and lower the rack into position. When you're ready to go, lift the rack up until it snaps into place with an audible click.

Easy Installation with Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin

The BackRoad easily installs with a threaded, anti-rattle hitch pin. Simply slide the shank in your hitch receiver, insert the threaded hitch pin, and tighten it down with the included tool. This not only secures the rack to your vehicle but also reduces noise and movement of the rack in your hitch. Available hitchlock (sold separately) allows you to lock the rack to your vehicle.

The rack works with both 1-1/4" and 2" hitches. To use it in a 1-1/4" hitch, simply remove the hitch adapter with the included Allen key.

Bike Security

The BackRoad includes a lock to secure your bikes to the rack. The integrated cable lock extends from the front of the left arm, wraps around your bikes, and secures to a post built into the arm.

SKS cores can be swapped out if you own other Yakima products and want to use the same key to lock them all.

Integrated Bottle Opener

Yakima 8002702 BackRoad Built-in Bottle Openers

The BackRoad includes a built-in, machined-steel bottle opener in case your beverage of choice doesn't have a twist-off cap.

Due to COVID-19 the supply chain and logistics is a mess. I ordered a bike rack that is backed ordered until the end of time! LoL I called in for the status as no update for over a month. Stacey A, helped me over the phone find a replacement in stock even though I had to spend an additional $[XX]In all set and ready to go! Thank you etrailer.

by:

Great rack, fits nicely and was easy to install. Solid and unwavering. Looks great on the Jeep.

by:

Set up was simple and easy, super excited to start using this rack. Getting three diverse bikes on the rack was no problem, bikes with odd frames pose a little more of a challenge but it worked out fine. Looking forward to adding the adaptor to be able to carry skis this winter!

by:

Honestly, I just received this item so my rating is a bit premature. But it arrived sooner than expected and in good condition so until I actually unbox it and figure it out? Etrailer gets 5 stars for customer service at this point.

Still a great product, no issues easy set up and take down.

by:

Works great on our Acura MDX for the bike rack and the trailer, and it's not very visible at all.

by:

Great product, easy to install. Placed thin rubber washers around swing bolt to eliminate all vibration except minimal amount at pin insertion. Would highly recommend!

by:

Extremely professional experience. Ordered the product, was told it would ship November 2nd. Followed tracking that was sent with initial email. Received product a week early.
Nice Job!

by:

Great rack that fits 4 bikes and performs as advertised. It rides on a 2020 Explorer and we are looking forward to using it a lot. Etrailer got it here way earlier than we thought and the whole buying and delivery process was perfect.

by:

Very solid construction. High quality piece.
Also, the service I received by Paula S was second to none. She was a big reason I ordered from etrailer.

by:

The service was good, shipment received on time. The only suggestion I would like to make is to package the heavy items more securely.

No issues whatsoever after a year. Good product.

by:

Excellent communication and quick delivery! A highly recommended site! You won't be disappointed!

by:

It works fine. Road bikes get a little congested and the bikes get damaged a little from bumping into each other. It's a very nice price point to carry four bikes. 2 adults (road) and 2 kids (road)

by:

It works great. Just that it is huge, heavy, and clumsy to attach. But it carries the bikes. So ... That's the important thing.

by:

Overall a pretty good product, my only complaint is that is too heavy, should be made of materials that are strong yet lighter.

by:

Awesome rack

I’ve done a great deal of research and this bike rack is excellent. I used it yesterday with 2 bikes. Completely secure and did not wobble at all. Plus, loved etrailers comparison video and excellent customer service. Will shop here again. Completely satisfied with my purchase. Thank you!

by:

Excellent service first and foremost, Alex was a fantastistic customer service representative! I could not be more with with both the service and quality of their product line. Will only shop here from now on. Thank you etrailer for a awesome shopping experience! I'll be back.... pictures to come.

  • Troubleshooting A Yakima Bike Rack That Won't Slide Into A 2" Receiver Hitch On A GMC Sierra
Since the Yakima bike rack you have is that old either the receiver tube is damaged or the receiver hitch on your GMC Sierra isn't truly 2". You can measure the receiver to double check but it's most likely that the rack is damaged in someway which is preventing it from sliding into your receiver. I recommend replacing the bike rack with a new one like the Yakima BackRoad 4 Bike Rack - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Tilting # YA44FR. It has a weight capacity of 37.5lbs per bike and includes...

The best way to carry more than one bike on your 2014 Toyota Sienna is with a hitch and a hitch mounted bike rack. When it comes to trunk mount racks the only fitments we have are from SeaSucker and those specific racks only carry 1 bike each. For a trailer hitch I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98853 because of the hidden crosstube and superior matte black finish, and then for a bike rack I really like the Yakima BackRoad 4 Bike Rack # YA44FR because it combines a good...

  • Thule Camber TH9056 vs Yakima BackRoad YA44FR
Both the Thule Camber # TH9056 and the Yakima BackRoad # YA44FR are good choices. The main difference is the straps for your bikes. The Zip Strips on the Yakima will need to be removed every time you put a bike on or off the rack, the Thule straps will stay connected. I would say the Thule option is quicker but not any easier than the Yakima option. The only reason I say that is because you just have to take the extra time to put the zip strip in your pocket or lay it somewhere. If you...

It has a tongue weight of 400 lbs which is more than enough for your bikes. I attached the install video if you want to check out how easy it is to install. • Availability of Bike Rack that Can Swing Away from Rear of Vehicle for Cargo Area Access
The Yakima BackRoad 4 Bike Rack # YA44FR can only tilt with bikes off of the rack. If the bikes were on the rack when tilted the inside bike would hit the ground and the rack would be very difficult to raise and lower. For a 4-bike rack that can give you cargo area access with bikes loaded you'd want the Thule Apex Swing part # TH9027XT instead which can swing out and away from the rear of the vehicle with bikes loaded for total access to the rear of the vehicle.

The RidgeBack has several upgrades that make it easier to use, such as the speed knob anti rattle system which provides a locking knob at the front of the rack that takes all the slack out of the hitch/rack connection versus the threaded hitch pin on the BackRoad that you'll need to use a wrench to install/remove....
