Note: This dual-arm rack reduces the need for a bike frame adapter bar (sold separately) to mount a children's, women's, or alternative frame bicycle. However, to mount certain bikes or to keep your bike level on the rack, a bike adapter bar may be required. Most step-through bikes, dual-suspension bikes, and small children's bikes will require a bike adapter bar.
The sturdy, hitch-mounted Yakima BackRoad lets you transport 4 bikes on the back of your vehicle. The rack has dual arms that offer excellent bike support and anti-sway cradles with ZipStrip ratcheting cradle straps for quick and easy bike loading. The mast tilts away from your vehicle for cargo area access. And installation is simple with an included anti-rattle pin that secures the rack to your vehicle.
The BackRoad has dual arms that provide your bikes with excellent support and ground clearance during transport.
The arms fold flat against the mast for parking clearance and compact storage. To fold them down, pull the grey quick-release lever on top of the mast. When you're ready to load bikes again, simply lift the arms back up until they lock into place with an audible click.
The BackRoad has anti-sway cradles that grip your bike frame at 3 different points - twice along the top bar and once along the downward bar, such as a seat post. This third point of contact helps to prevent sway and bike-to-bike contact.
Ratcheting ZipStrips let you quickly and easily secure your bikes in the cradles. These straps require none of the tugging and stretching that conventional straps require. Simply insert the strap into the buckles on the cradle and push it down until it's snug around your bike frame. The ZipStrips can be removed quickly by pressing the release levers on the side of each anti-sway cradle.
A layer of TPE padding on each cradle absorbs road shock and minimized vibrations
The rack tilts for easy access to your vehicle's rear cargo area. Just pull the spring pin at the base of the mast, and lower the rack into position. When you're ready to go, lift the rack up until it snaps into place with an audible click.
The BackRoad easily installs with a threaded, anti-rattle hitch pin. Simply slide the shank in your hitch receiver, insert the threaded hitch pin, and tighten it down with the included tool. This not only secures the rack to your vehicle but also reduces noise and movement of the rack in your hitch. Available hitchlock (sold separately) allows you to lock the rack to your vehicle.
The rack works with both 1-1/4" and 2" hitches. To use it in a 1-1/4" hitch, simply remove the hitch adapter with the included Allen key.
The BackRoad includes a lock to secure your bikes to the rack. The integrated cable lock extends from the front of the left arm, wraps around your bikes, and secures to a post built into the arm.
SKS cores can be swapped out if you own other Yakima products and want to use the same key to lock them all.
The BackRoad includes a built-in, machined-steel bottle opener in case your beverage of choice doesn't have a twist-off cap.

LoL I called in for the status as no update for over a month. Stacey A, helped me over the phone find a replacement in stock even though I had to spend an additional $[XX]In all set and ready to go! Great rack, fits nicely and was easy to install. Solid and unwavering. Looks great on the Jeep.
Set up was simple and easy, super excited to start using this rack. Getting three diverse bikes on the rack was no problem, bikes with odd frames pose a little more of a challenge but it worked out fine. Looking forward to adding the adaptor to be able to carry skis this winter!
Honestly, I just received this item so my rating is a bit premature. But it arrived sooner than expected and in good condition so until I actually unbox it and figure it out? Etrailer gets 5 stars for customer service at this point.
Works great on our Acura MDX for the bike rack and the trailer, and it's not very visible at all.
Great product, easy to install. Placed thin rubber washers around swing bolt to eliminate all vibration except minimal amount at pin insertion. Would highly recommend!

Great rack that fits 4 bikes and performs as advertised. It rides on a 2020 Explorer and we are looking forward to using it a lot. Etrailer got it here way earlier than we thought and the whole buying and delivery process was perfect.

The service was good, shipment received on time. The only suggestion I would like to make is to package the heavy items more securely.

It works fine. Road bikes get a little congested and the bikes get damaged a little from bumping into each other. It's a very nice price point to carry four bikes. 2 adults (road) and 2 kids (road)
It works great. Just that it is huge, heavy, and clumsy to attach. But it carries the bikes. So ... That's the important thing.
Overall a pretty good product, my only complaint is that is too heavy, should be made of materials that are strong yet lighter.
