Dual Folding Arms with Anti-Sway Cradles

Yakima RidgeBack 4-bike Hanging-Style Rack Dual Folding Arms with TriggerFinger Lever

The Yakima RidgeBack has dual arms that provide excellent support for your bikes. They slope up to provide ground clearance for steep driveways and bumpy roads.

Yakima RidgeBack 4-bike Hanging-Style Rack TriggerFinger Lever

To fold the arms down, pull up the TriggerFinger lever at the top of the mast. This leaves a smaller footprint, so you can keep the rack on your vehicle to park in your garage. And when stored in this configuration, it doesn't take up as much space in your garage.

Yakima RidgeBack 4-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Folding Cradles

Each set of anti-sway cradles have two ZipStrips that secure your bike along the top tube and one that secures the seat post or downtube. This multi-point contact helps keep your bikes from rocking back and forth, reducing bike-to-bike contact.

Yakima RidgeBack 4-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Zip StripsYakima RidgeBack 4-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Zip Strips

Because the ZipStrips are removable, the RidgeBack is easier to load than racks that have integrated straps that get in your way when you slide your bikes over the arms. To load your bikes, press the quick-release levers on the sides of each cradle and remove the ZipStrips, slide your bikes onto the rack, and re-insert the strips, pressing them firmly against each bike's frame. To remove your bikes, simply remove the ZipStrips.

Easy Tilting for Cargo Area Access

Yakima RidgeBack 4-bike Hanging-Style Rack Tilting

The rack tilts down without your bikes loaded. This means you won't have to remove the whole rack to access your cargo area for grocery runs and other errands.

Yakima RidgeBack 4-bike Hanging-Style Rack Lower HitchSwitch Lever

To tilt the rack, pull the lever on the front of the mast and lower the mast. When you're ready to go, lift the mast up until it snaps into place with an audible click.

Tool-Free Installation and Rack Security

Yakima EasyFold XT

The rack quickly installs in your hitch receiver, without the need for tools. Just slide the shank into your hitch and turn the knob until snug. Turning the knob deploys an anti-rattle wedge in the shank to help take play out of the hitch connection. Insert the hitch pin into the hole to secure the rack to your receiver. The pin is tethered to the rack, so you won't lose it.

Yakima Helium Pro 4-bike Hanging-Style Rack 1-1/4

You can install the rack in a 1-1/4" hitch or in a 2" hitch. To use it in a 1-1/4" hitch, simply remove the adapter with the included Allen key.

Yakima RidgeBack 4-bike Hanging-Style Rack Locking Knob

A lock on the hand knob secures the rack to your vehicle. Once locked, the hand knob will spin freely so a would-be thief can't operate it.

Yakima RidgeBack 2-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Locking Knob

A HandCuff cable lock kit (sold separately) is available to secure your bikes to the rack. Unlike a standard cable lock, the HandCuff lock attaches to the Ridgeback with included hardware. Once attached, the cable threads around your bikes' frames and inserts into the lock at the end of the right arm. The cable stores inside the mast when not in use. Same Key System (SKS) locks (sold separately) let you make all your Yakima products keyed alike.

Available Adapter Bar

Yakima EasyFold XT

If you have a women's bike, kid's bike, or any other bike without a straight, horizontal top tube, you will need an adapter bar (sold separately) to properly mount your bike. The bar fits between the seat post and handlebar stem post of your bike to create a top tube so your bike hangs level on the rack.

Great product, easy to set up and take down. Looking forward to taking our whole family out for a ride. Only thing to be aware of is if your using kids bikes or mountain bikes, you may need to purchase the adapters.

by:

This is a junk system for an rv. Have to keep redoing codes every trip
Don’t waste your money

by:

Rack is very easy to install and remove, and fits well with no rattle in the 2" receiver. Loading bikes is easy and it will, indeed, hold 5 bikes with relatively little effort. The only negatives I have are 1) Unless I use Yakima's custom locking cable for this rack, there is no good way to lock bicycles to the rack 2) It wasn't clear to me that I would need adapter bars (8002531) for kids bikes. I've always managed to get them on my older racks, but not the Yakima. I suspect that most modern racks would need these bars.

Overall, very satisfied.

by:

Yakima fits our family of four bikes well. You can definitely get a fifth bike on but it would be tight. The locking system works well and the clasps are easy to use. So much happier with this rack than my last on. I don't curse nearly as much when putting bikes on the car! Personally, I'm a big fan of Etrailer in general. They are thorough, friendly and knowledgeable. Great price and value.

by:

I have owned this bike rack for one year. I has travelled thousands of miles on the back of multiple vehicles hauling usually two adult bikes or two adult and two youth bikes. Getting five bikes on here is not really possible for bikes with wide handlebars and standard pedals. The rack is still in very good shape and is easy to store and install. The tilt function allows the empty rack to move out of the way of the SUV hatch opening.

by:

Everything works as it should. Hard to get multiple bikes with drop-down handlebars immediately adjacent to each other on the rack, but no problem getting them all on there with kids bikes in the middle.

by:

Love it. Super easy to install, and ready to go right out of the box. Fits my kids bikes as well as mine. The tilt feature is easy to use, and the unit doesn’t feel too heavy, so anyone can use it. I was a bit concerned the width of the rack would block my back up camera view, but I can still see around it well enough, at least on my Kia Telluride.

by:

Great hitch, sometimes hard to get 5 bikes on....but it holds 5 bikes!! Quality is great and etrailer was very responsive during the COVID delays.

by:

This Yakima 5 bike rack is exactly what I needed. It's very easy to mount and very sturdy.

The Yakima rack is great. Very solid and easy to use. It takes me a few minutes to mount it. 5 bikes ride just fine.

by:

Fantastic! We love the Yakima bike rack, have used it multiple times since purchase, including on a 600-mile round trip. Met all of my expectations. Bikes move a little, and at first it was disconcerting. But even over large bumps at 70+ mph there was no evidence of any shifting of the load, and the bikes remained secure. It is quite difficult to fit 5 bikes (2 adult and 3 children's bikes) on the bike rack, but with some creativity I was able to make it happen. I can't imagine how you would fit 5 adult bikes on here, however. Overall I am extremely satisfied with my purchase. Great service from the folks at eTrailer.com as well! I received the package within 3 days of purchase (at 3 pm in the afternoon, no less!).

by:

Like recent reviews i did my homework to find the concerns that prior purchasers had about the product. 1 was that the bike rack would move all over the place as if it was going to break. While driving that concern passed the test. 2 difficulty for 5 bike install, buy the bike adapter bars they help and are necessary, very easy to install rack and bikes if done correctly. I am very satisfied with the bike rack and would recommend. our first trip was 700 miles round trip on a truck 4x4 very bumpy compared to regular trucks and cars so it passed the double beating.

by:

I was grateful to so many others who wrote reviews on this website and praised the customer service. I was looking for a trailer to haul 5 bikes including womens and kids bikes and have it work on my husbands Jeep wrangler, my daughters Subaru Outback, occasionally an RV and mainly my Toyota Sienna that doesn't even have a hitch yet. With so many options online and seemingly different products for each one, I wanted help to know if there was any product that could help me meet all me needs, so I decided to call Etrailer and get some help. They were amazing just like everyone said! He recommend the Yakima Ridgeback which would meet all our different hitch needs and the best selling Kuat Ubar adaptor bars that would make it work for our women's and kids bikes and different hitch needs. And the best surprise of all is that he told me they even carried hitch packages for my Toyota! I hadn't even expected that. The quote I received from my Toyota dealer for installing a hitch was going to cost me over $1000! But Etrailer sent me one for under $200! I am excited to get our whole family out biking more together this summer and thanks to etrailer we got everything we needed and all shipped to Alaska for only a hundred bucks in less than 2 weeks!

The man on the phone explained how my husband could install the hitch himself, but after looking at it yesterday, he decided to take it to a local shop where they can raise the whole car for the install. But that will still be cheaper than what I thought I would have to pay before.

We are planning to get the hitch on our van this week and try out the bike trailer by the weekend.

Thanks for everything etrailer!!

by:

It fit my cat perfectly. Delivery was speedy. Installation was easy. Overall it’s been a great investment.

by:

have being sold my old 4 bike rack and with additional riders graduating to bigger bikers among our ranks (we have 4 kids) it was needed to upgrade to this unit. Easy to install and better system than the old wobble bolt that i had to drag a wrench instead of the knob now a days! it's a tight for 5 bikes but doable! recommended

by:

Got the Yakima ridgeback 5 bike rack and love it!!! The communication and follow up with Etrailer is 2nd to none!!! I've dont business here before and there is good reason why I keep coming back. Etrailer is awesome!!!

by:

Works great on our Subarus. We've had 5 bikes on it a few times! TWO 20" bmx bikes, ONE 24" girls mountain bike, TWO 26" Mountains bikes for me n wife... It was a tight fit, a few scratches from bikes rubbing against each other, but it is doable! I'd recommend it for anyone that needs a good strong carrier.

by:

it is nice and easy. but over the year it binds a bit but that could be my fault due to lack of caring for it. when i put 4 bikes of different sizes on it it can be difficult. just need to be aware of were the pedels are and removing a front tire or 2 helps.

by:

This bike rack is great, I have only installed it and plan to use it more in the spring. But, it is very easy to install. It comes fully assembled, just pull the levers to unfold, plug it in and tighten it down. It seems very well made and durable. Thank you!

by:

Great experience with eTrailer.com will buy again. The product was perfect and the support details with shipment and at website excellent.

by:

The rack is easy to use and meets our family’s needs.

by:

Easy to install and delivery was earlier as expected.

by:

  • Will the Yakima RidgeBack 5 Bike Rack fit a Class III Curt Trailer Hitch?
The specs of the Yakima Ridgeback # Y02459 does require a minimum distance of 1-1/2 inches the center pinhole to the face of the hitch opening. I contacted Curt and they confirmed that your hitch has a distance of 2-1/2 inches from the center pinhole to the face of the hitch opening, so you are good to go! Also, the distance from center of hitch pin hole to closest part of the Yakima Ridgeback # Y02459 is 9-1/2 inches, so it will give you plenty of clearance to extend beyond that back bumper.

  • Is There a 5-Bike Rack for Trailer Hitch That Can Tilt with Bikes Loaded
Since you are wanting a 5 bike rack there are only a few options that can carry that many bikes. Unfortunately, none of them will tilt with the bikes loaded. It is just too much weight and the rack could fail with that leverage on them. Of the 5-bike racks, I recommend the Yakima RidgeBack bike rack for 5 bikes # Y02459. There are several 4 bike options that can swing out and tilt with bikes loaded but for the 5 bike racks we do not have one to recommend. Check out the review...

  • Best 5-Bike Rack for a 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited that Allows Rear Door Clearance
To mount 5 bikes to the hitch of a 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, I recommend the Yakima RidgeBack, part # Y02459. It fits 1-1/4" and 2" hitches and can support 5 bikes up to 40 pounds each (up to 150 pounds total). It has an anti-rattle SpeedKnob. Like the other bike racks in this category, it has a tilt-away feature. However, none of these are likely to tilt away far enough to clear your swing-out hatch door. Unfortunately, we do not have a way around this as an extender would halve your...

  • Troubleshooting Yakima Ridgeback Anti-Rattle Knob that Won't Tighten
The anti-rattle device/locking device of the Yakima Ridgeback bike racks like the part # Y02459 that you referenced are basically combined and if the anti-rattle is unlocked that knob is disconnected from the anti-rattle and will spin freely. So what I would do is make sure you have tried locking the knob of the rack so that it is engaged and will tighten.

  • What is the Difference Between the Yakima RidgeBack and FullTilt Hitch Bike Racks
Both the RidgeBack # Y02459 and FullTilt # Y02463 are high-end hanging-style racks from Yakima but in this case the FullTilt has a few extra features so I recommend going that route. Both racks have very similar features as far as tilting/folding ease of use, the handy SpeedKnob that locks and acts as a tool-free anti-rattle device, and the Zip Strips that secure the bikes. The FullTilt pulls away from the RidgeBack by having an integrated lock for the bikes (that's an add-on for the RidgeBack)...

Both the Yakima RidgeBack 4-bike rack # Y02458 or the Yakima RidgeBack 5-bike rack # Y02459 will work with the Yakima HitchSki. The RidgeBack is a really nice tilting rack that has a built-in lock to deter theft of the rack. I attached demonstration videos for you to check out.

I have a solution for you to use a Yakima Ridgeback like the # Y02459 on a 2-1/2" receiver, but there is not an actual adapter for the shank. Instead, you'll need to use a hitch reducer like the Blue Ox Hitch Reducer Sleeve - 2-1/2" to 2" Trailer Hitch # BX88187 to reduce your 2-1/2" receiver down to a 2" receiver. This will allow you to carry the Ridgeback on your vehicle with the 2-1/2" receiver.

However, I don't advise it. As you can see from the photo I've attached, the bolts of the Thule Tram are not long enough to fit the base of the RidgeBack.
