I wanted to carry my bikes on the back of my Prius Prime without hanging anything on the body work. Obviously the only way was with a hitch and carrier. After searching the internet for options, etrailer had some useable options for a fair price. I installed a 1.25" hitch and bought this 3 bike carrier. To get the carrier base to fit into the receiver, I had to file most of the paint off the edges of the tube that goes into the receiver. It fits snuggly and I guess no harm done. The bottom bolt was too short for the ny-loc nut to work securely, but the OEM sent me a longer one on request. Using it on the Prius is perfect as it is a good height to load the bikes and even folded down causes no issues. It tilts back and allows the hatchback door to open ok. Using it on my truck, there are issues. Even on the outer bolt hole, tilting doesn't allow you to open the tailgate to load things. This carrier is supposed to be bolted into the receiver, so it's a pain to remove it. I have purchased a 2" to 1.25" reducer adapter that pushes the carrier out about 5 inches from the discount hardware store for $14. I also got an anti-rattle device that will lock that into the trucks receiver. I haven't used it yet but it should resolve this issue. As for the carrier's bike interface, it locks the bikes in pretty well. I haven't used a strap on the bikes on either vehicle as they seem to be very secure. The rubber bands feel ...cheap... for lack of a better word, but work ok now, we'll see how long they last. To be honest I have no idea what they were thinking when they designed the locking thing!? You can't secure anything but the end bikes frame and a small set of bolt cutters would solve that. It will keep a kid from snatch and run, but it won't reach the wheels, so they're gone if you have quick release skewers.
Still, overall it's a decent carrier, the finish seems to be tough, it does hold the bikes well so they probably won't fall off (in bad places, stay with the car or bring them indoors, LOL), but be careful the first time you tilt it and try to open the back of you vehicle.
I would recommend this carrier.

The bolt hole which allowed it to be secured closest to the car became threaded after about 4 months of use and I had to have a mechanic remove it. Fortunately there’s a second hole for attaching the rack to the hitch since the first one is no longer useable. I hope the other hole doesn’t develop the same issue.

So far the second bolt hole is holding strong and working well. I’m not sure it’s gotten as much use this past year and I haven’t used it yet since last summer.

etrailer is a great company to do business with.
I rated this Malone bike rack a four out of five stars only because i really don’t think you could get three adult size bikes on it. I was afraid of damage so i put two on the rack and one in the camper.
Other then that its a quality product. Very secure.

by:

Some nice features, but a mediocre product overall. Connects to your receiver with a screw-in bolt, which, at best, is hard to install. And the bolt only connects to one side of the receiver. Also, elastic bands are used as tie down straps and these bands will eventually break or become over-stretched. Also, the lock feature is useless as the key and lock are shoddily made. On the plus side, the steel core is very sturdy and the unit is a lot less expensive than the competition.

Love this rack-simple, light weight, well made and sturdy. Has held up very well.

Great after one year.

by:

Talk about a VERY GOOD AND SECURE bike rack. I love the folding features on it. You can fold it down in one direction to easily put bikes up, and fold down another part so the rack isn't sticking out. It locks in the hitch easily and secure. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this to others

Absolutely love this rack. Ive used it a few times this year. Its very easy to install and remove, very sturdy and REALLY holds the bikes down if you put the straps on properly. I would still highly recommend this to anyone!

by:

Works great and can take it on and off the car in seconds.

by:

Overall a very nice bike rack. It sits solidly in our hitch and has almost no movement. I was worried with the two pivot points that it would bounce around but everything was made with tight tolerances so no bouncing at all! It is a bit fiddly to put the bikes on (especially the one in back) with the big pads and straps but it is getting easier as we learn the tricks). Overall we are very happy with the rack but have only used it for a couple of weeks.

by:

Order place on 8/2 , the bike rack was back ordered to be received in September, but once I communicated that I could not wait that long. I was informed that they had received item and proceeded to ship it. BTW customer service is great. I received items on 8/12. Installed 8/13. The hitch and bike rack was shipped in one box, box arrived with damage. Hitch bounced around during transport No major damage to hitch or rack. Corners of hitch scratched but it does not affect the integrity of the hitch. Bike rack box and rack itself ok Hardware bolts and washers was taped to the hitch receiver. installed within 35 minutes all together. Passenger side a bit tricky to install bolt due to space
gap constraint. Bike rack is easy to put together.

by:

I have to compliment on the speed and customer service. My malone 3 came in the mail seemingly at light speed. However there were 2 broken brackets that must have occurred during shipping. Not etrailer or malones fault. I called and they were on it quickly. New part came in a day! Top notch customer service!! They went out of there way to get me that part. Both companies were stellar. I had other experiences waiting for parts for other gear this happened to and waited weeks. Can u tell I'm happy?! Oh as far the the bike rack it's great solid well made. I would suggest getting the locking bolt for security and it help tighten the fit. Will use again in the future for my trailer needs.

by:

Good height if you have a small car and plan to carry large bikes. Good spacing between the cradles of larges bikes as well. However, I would prefer velcro or other type of strap as these need to be overstretched or left a bit loose with my mountain bikes. Also the integrated bike lock is pretty much useless. It only locks the last bike so worthless when carrying only one or two bikes. And if you want to protect your tires from theft, you need a separate lock anyway. Overall good enough rack and good price for occasional use.

by:

easy to install, fairly light weight. It holds the bikes fairly securely.

by:

Everything works as it should. Have had all 3 of the families bikes on this rack no problems. Very sturdy with the Malone lock and sway control .

by:

Love the new rack was pretty easy to install and looks awesome.

by:

Fast shipping, delivery on time. Installation manual and the [online] video were a little cumbersome. Though, the installation was not complicated.

by:

The straps have all broken and there is no replacements available. I almost lost my bike a couple of times. Waste of money and did not last. Just sitting around because I cannot use it and don't know what else to do with it.

by:

Omg you guys are awesome and thank you for the great customer service and the quick shipment of one of my Christmas gifts. Happy Holidays and thank you again.

by:

Great quality, I highly recommend this bike rack.

by:

Great quality does not even wiggle after installed.

  • Will Malone RunWay 3 Bike Rack for 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk Tilt Away with Bikes Loaded
If you're looking for a 3-bike rack, the Malone Hanger # MPG2130 is a good choice for your 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. The trailer hitches made for the 2019 Cherokee, like the Draw-Tite # 75998 or Curt # C13395 sit pretty flush with the rear bumper, so clearing your bumper will not be an issue with the Hanger installed. The same is true for the OEM trailer hitch, so no issues there. The RunWay does allow you to use the tilt feature with or without the bikes loaded, as shown on page 14...

  • Difference Between Malone Bike Rack part Numbers MPG2130 and MPG2165
The two part numbers are totally different products so I wonder if maybe you meant to type something different. The Malone Runway 3 part # MPG2130 is a hanging 3-bike rack and the part # MPG2165 is a bike frame adapter bar that you would use on a bike rack like this so that you could carry an alternative framed bike without a top tube like a womens or kids bike. I attached review videos for both of these racks for you to check out as well.

  • Recommended 3 Bike Rack That Can Be Used on Both 1-1/4 and 2 Inch Hitch Receivers
I have a solution for you, but the Hollywood Racks Road Runner # HR320 is only designed to fit on 2" receivers. Since you have both 1-1/4" and 2" receivers I recommend using the Malone Runway # MPG2130 since it offers the same features and also comes with a locking hitch pin and locks for the bikes. I've linked a brief video of our road test of the Malone rack for you to have a look at as well.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver And 3-Bike Bike Rack For A 2020 Ford Fusion
For your 2020 Ford Fusion I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class II - 1-1/4" # C12091. This hitch has a maximum gross trailer weight capacity of 3,500lbs and maximum tongue weight of 350lbs and is not rated for use with weight distribution hitches. • Bike Rack Options For Downhill Mountain Bike With Slanted Frame
I can see how the frame of your sons bike has a slanted cross tube which may make it difficult to properly hang it on a hanging bike rack because there is not a horizontal surface to hang the bike from. If you have "standard" bikes like road bikes or mountain bikes, I recommend the Malone Runway # MPG2130. This will hold 3 bikes weighing up to 33 lbs apiece. • What Trunk Mounted Bike Rack Can I Use with a 22 Inch Clearance for a Trailer Jack Handle?
I have a solution for you. Unfortunately, the length of the Thule Gateway Pro 3 from the lower support to the end of the bike rack is about 23-1/2 inches. This will most likely interfere with the RV trailer handle (especially factoring in overhang for rear bike's pedals). In addition, there are no 3-bike trunk racks that will be less than the 22 inches you need for the clearance of the trailer handle for the jack. With that being said, I confirmed with my contact at Thule that the Thule...
