Is There a Way to Increase Distance Between Hitch and Trailer for Tailgate Clearance
Question:
My question is, I cannot put my tailgate down when I’m hooked up to my camper, I want to put my golf cart in the back of my truck. I have a 33’ Sunset Trail Super lite camper, with a 2017 Ram 1500, with air bags, would the 10,000 lb extension work for my situation?

Expert Reply:
Since hitch extenders cut the capacity of the hitch they are installed in by 50 percent a better solution would be a longer ball mount like the # EA40 which is 14-5/8 inches from pin hole to ball hole and would most likely give you the extra clearance you'd need to be able to lower your tailgate when towing and not hit the trailer jack.
