This shock-absorbing pin box works with your gooseneck hitch to give a smooth ride while you tow your fifth-wheel trailer. The all-in-1 box has no air bags to refill or small parts to replace. Auto-latch allows for easy hookup. 4.5K pin weight.

Features:

  • 5th-Wheel-to-gooseneck adapter box lets you tow your 5th-wheel trailer with your gooseneck hitch
    • 5th-Wheel pin box replaces the factory pin box on your trailer
    • Coupler attaches to your truck's gooseneck hitch ball
  • Shock-absorbing design ensures a smooth, steady ride
    • Technology functions like a torsion axle to limit transfer of road shock from trailer to truck and vice versa
      • Reduces chucking and rough fore-and-aft motion
      • Limits bounce and jarring up-and-down motion
    • No airbags to maintain and fewer moving parts to repair or replace than with other shock-absorbing solutions
  • Self-latching lever automatically engages when hitch ball is in socket
  • Cross-shaped holes provide attachment points for safety chains
  • Heavy-duty steel construction
  • Powder coat finish resists wear and corrosion
  • Simple, bolt-on installation
    • Mounts with existing bolts
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Designed to replace Lippert 1621 and 1621 HD 5th-wheel pin boxes
  • Towing capacity: 30,000 lbs
  • Pin weight capacity range: 2,000 lbs - 4,500 lbs
  • Ball size: 2-5/16"
  • 5-Year limited warranty

Notes:

  • Average break-in period for hitch = 1,000 miles.
  • In order for the pin box's shock absorption to work correctly, make sure your pin weight is within the pin weight range.
  • To calculate correct towing weight for Gen-Y hitches, use this formula: GVWR x 0.22 = TW.
  • Because the Gen-Y Hitch Executive is shorter than the Lippert 1621 or 1621 HD pin box, the clearance between your trailer and tow vehicle during turns might be reduced.

Calculated Tongue Weight Executive Tongue Weight Capacity Required
1,600-2,599 lbs 3,500 lbs
2,600-3,599 lbs 4,500 lbs

Fifth Wheel to Gooseneck Adapter

Say your truck has a gooseneck hitch for towing your horse trailer, but you want to go camping with your new fifth wheel. You could outfit your truck with a new fifth-wheel hitch that attaches to your existing gooseneck hitch, but that means having to move a heavy, bulky hitch into and out of your truck bed all the time.

You could also purchase an adapter that bolts onto your trailer's existing pin box. But adding a new component to your setup can keep your pin box from working how it was designed. King pin adapters can create a stiff ride and can even strain your fifth wheel's frame by adding too much height at the connection point.

A better option is to use this gooseneck-compatible pin box to easily tow your fifth-wheel trailer with your truck's gooseneck hitch. The box replaces your trailer's existing pin box, which means it's designed to act as a part of your trailer instead of simply bolting over your king pin like an adapter does.

Built-In Shock Absorption for a Smooth Ride

Executive torsion with cable

If you've ever towed a fifth-wheel trailer before, you're no stranger to road shock. Driving over uneven terrain can result in a rigid, bumpy ride. And uncomfortable fore-and-aft chucking can occur when you're starting and stopping. When all of the motions combine, the road shock can even potentially damage your truck or trailer.

This Gen-Y Hitch torsion pin box is designed to absorb road shock at the connection point to create a safe, smooth ride. This is thanks to the internal construction of the box, which is similar to that of a torsion axle.

Pivot points are built into the Gen-Y pin box adapter. This allows for movement between the box, which attaches to your trailer, and the coupler tube, which connects to the gooseneck hitch ball in your truck bed. When your trailer bounces or jerks, the coupler tube will move accordingly.

torsion diagram

Built into the Gen-Y pin box are tubes with inner bars that are surrounded by rubber cords. As the coupler end moves, these inner bars twist inside of the tubes, attempting to follow the coupler's motion. But the rubber cords prevent the bars from twisting too far. And as each bar turns, these cords compress to absorb the rough shock. This means that any shock experienced by your truck can be absorbed before it reaches your trailer, and the shock experienced by your trailer won't get transferred to your truck.

The Gen-Y gooseneck has been excellent! I now have approximately 12k miles on mine and it rides very nicely with very limited chucking and handles rough roads very well. I’d highly recommend that you contact Gen-Y BEFORE ordering to ensure you get the correct load rating product. Gen-Y and Etrailer have provided excellent customer and tech support! This product definitely frees up your truck bed and does require a precise line up to hitch.

W excellent product that now has 11k miles of towing 16k lb 5th wheel! For hookup that needs to be precise, I settled on the simple yellow foam ball on a telescoping metal placed on the ball in my truck bed. Perfect, one shot alignment, with no help! I’d recommend this product for all who tow 5th wheels!

by:

Makes life a lot easier l don’t have to remove my hitch from the bed of my truck to use it. Just flip the ball and there you go.
The gooseneck hitch actually pulls better than the 5th wheel hitch I had.
It is rather heavy so come up with a good plan for installing, I used the front end loader on my tractor which allowed me to do the install by myself.
Great product!!!

by:

Best upgrade I have done on my RV. Hitching up a gooseneck is a little more difficult but well worth it. It allowed me to remove the large heavy 5th wheel hitch out of the bed of the truck. I love the damping of the trailer bouncing. This hitch allows my RV move with the truck and I don’t feel that bounce of the truck is passed to the RV hitch like it was with the 5th wheel hitch. Hitch is heave and it really would help to have two people to install it. I’ve done it twice. Once with help and once without. Using the bed of the truck and a lever I was able to install the hitch myself.

by:

The Gen-Y hitch is very stout & well built. Fit & finish was excellent.
Installed myself in about 30 minutes.

by:

Are you kidding ? This has got to be the best hitch setup available on the market of ALL hitches. Fantastic, durable, quiet, no bucking, chucking or issues of any kind. We have a 16,000 lb, trailer and I sometimes forget we are even towing with our 2018 F-450. I have recommended this hitch to everyone and enjoy the "clean" truck bed when not towing.

by:

Seems great just installed hook camper up and took around town pulled great with new hitch

by:

I just got my new gooseneck attachment yesterday and I got it installed within probably an hour and a half with one other person’s help and so far I think it’s by far the best gooseneck attachment I’ve ever used and I’m excited to use it more. Thank you thank you I truly appreciate good service and good products.

This is probably the last time I will ever order from etrailer, very bad experience, I lost two days work waiting on my order because it wasn't delivered the day it was supposed to come even after calling the freight company, then after I received my order the next day then to open and install one of my orders which was a Gen-y 25k gooseneck fifthwheel hitch which was labeled on the box. After opening the box with the hitch in it I noticed that the hitch had several skins on it for a XXXX.XX hitch but I decided to install it anyway because of losing two days work waiting ,after installing this hitch on my rv and then hooking to my truck I noticed a bad squat on this hitch then I took a look on the model on the hitch itself and its a 18k hitch, so basically I received a 18k hitch in a 25k box which I had ordered a 25k. So now I've lost my weekend trip and going to take the wrong hitch off that you sent me to send back and wait no telling how many more weeks to receive maybe the right hitch I ordered to have to install again which etrailer should send me new bolts to remount this hitch since it's been took off so many times due to etrailers mix ups. So I guess I'll wait and see how long it takes to get the hitch I ordered. I'm not a very happy customer.

by:

Works well, although my dealer can move a gooseneck. I have to stay while repairs are being done.

by:

As usual, etrailer provided great information to help in my purchase and has been extremely helpful on the phone. My products always arrive in great shape and I love my new gooseneck

by:

Definitely recommend this hitch

I have a short bed diesel truck with a B&W gooseneck system installed. I purchased the GEN-Y Gooseneck to install on my new 5th wheel. I have a gooseneck horse trailer, so this choice was obvious. I ordered the GEN-Y from etrailer, we had a lot of back and forth discussions on shipping and arrival dates. I had my local RV dealer install it, way to heavy for me to wrangle. The RV dealer had never heard or seen the GEN-Y product line before, they were so impressed that they are now the authorized GEN-Y dealer in my area. When I hooked my 5th wheel I didn't have enough space between the truck cab and the 5th wheel to maneuver. I had mistakenly thought the GEN-Y would provide enough added space, wrong. I called etrailer to discuss and express my concerns and asked if they had any info to help me. The courteous customer service representative acted like they had never heard of this problem before and would certainly look into it and call me back. Nope, never heard from etrailer.com again. I did my own research and found a gooseneck extension ball manufactured by B&W and it is rated at 20k. This made it possible to actually maneuver the 5th wheel. This B&W extension should be recommended by etrailer every time a Gen Y gooseneck hitch is sold to a short bed truck owner. But, since etrailer had never heard of this problem don't count on it. I am very disappointed with their customer service.
Regarding the GEN-Y, this is a beast and built so well. While towing my 5th wheel I am fully enjoying the torsion shock absorbing technology. One area for improvement on the GEN-Y, the release cord does not have method to keep the release cord open without holding it. On a competitors version (Reese) they have a method to hold it open. See pic for this method, I plan on adding this to my GEN-Y, which is otherwise a far superior product in my opinion. Love the GEN-Y, not so much for etrailer.

Very helpful and professional.

by:

This was better than I expected. Truck felt smoother going down the road with our new 5th wheel than with our previous rig with a standard 5th wheel hitch even though the new rig was about 3.5k lbs heavier. I believed the claims of a smoother ride because of the torsion action but I was really amazed at how much better it was. The one I was skeptical about was the improved mileage claim. After a 7 week long RV trip putting over 4K towing miles with a heavier, (and slightly taller trailer), I was averaging the same, even slightly better, as with my previous rig with the same tow vehicle. This setup also freed up the bed of my truck tremendously. It also lowered my pin weight/payload number by about 70lbs as compared with the original Pinbox and 5th wheel hitch I had. Great product.

by:

I haven't got a chance to use it yet but it looks like it's going to be awesome.

by:

From my initial call to Receiving the product the experience was awesome! Would do business with them anytime.

by:

The hitch just arrived. Shipping was fast and it was in perfect condition. I'll be doing the install on my Momentum m-class 381m later this week and then taking it on a short weekend trip. I'll update my review after all this is done.

by:

Engineering looks great it was simple to install but honestly have not had a chance to pull the trailer yet.

by:

Shipping was right on schedule it works excellent how had to buy a taller ball wish it was about 3 inches longer in length so I could clear my cab in tight terms

  • Can Gen-Y Fifth Wheel to Gooseneck Adapter Fit in Place of Rotoflex
The Gen-Y fifth wheel to gooseneck adapter part # GY38GR can fit in place of a Rotoflex pin box as long as it was one that was designed to fit in place of a Rhino pin box. This adapter does not attach to a pin box and instead replaces it. Since the Rotoflex pin box is an older design and the Rhino box is newer this is mostly likely not the adapter you are needing. Instead it's most likely you have a 1621 design and the correct adapter you'd need is the part # GY38FR.
