Can You Tow 5th Wheel Trailer w/ Gen-Y Gooseneck Pin Box with 2015 Ford F-350 Short Bed?

Question:

I have a 2015 f350 supercab 6-3/4 bed. I just ordered a Gen Y GY38FR from you. Will this work with my short bed? Do I need an offset ball or anything else?

That's really going to depend on your specific trailer.

While the standard response from the industry is that if you have a short bed truck that you need a sliding 5th wheel hitch, that just isn't always the case.

A lot of trailers are now coming with a tapered nose to allow short bed trucks to tow them without needing a bulky slider hitch, and plenty of our customers have had no problems using pin boxes such as the Gen Y Gooseneck Pin Box # GY38FR with a short bed and no problems.

With that said you won't be able to make a 90 degree turn without clearance issues, but you should never be making that tight of a turn with a 5th wheel trailer anyways.

I'd recommend once you get the pin box installed that you take your truck and trailer to a big parking lot and have a trusted friend watch your cab to trailer clearance while you're making turns so you learn what you can get away with.

If you feel like you're not getting enough clearance let me know which gooseneck hitch you have and we can see if there's an offset ball available, but you should be fine.
