Determining Which Gen-Y 5th Wheel To Gooseneck Pin Box Fits Keystone Montana

Question:

Good morning, I have a Montana 5th wheel with a stickered pin box weight of 2,980 pounds. My GTW is 16,900. Which hitch model and corresponding pin box dampening weight range would be appropriate to give the best ride? I also have a 3500 Ram mega cab and would like to know if there are any options available to space the factory goose ball aft and also prevent side bed contact from the Gen-Y unit. Thanks!

I would be happy to help you determine which Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel To Gooseneck Pin Box will be correct for your Keystone Montana 5th wheel trailer, but you will first need to determine which pin box is installed on your trailer.

To do this you will need to look on the pin box for a four digit model number such as 1116 or 1621. If you cannot find the model then just send me a picture of the sticker on the pin box that has the serial number and item number so I can identify it for you.

For example if you find you have a 1621/1621 HD pin box the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box - Lippert 1621/1621HD - 25K GTW - 4.5K TW # GY38FR which works with pin weights between 2000-4500lbs and has a trailer weight rating of 25000lbs.

If you find you have a different pin box model just let me know.

For your 2021 Ram 3500 with the OEM prep package there is not a way to use an offset gooseneck ball due to the method of which the hitch ball is installed in the hitch allowing the ball to rotate.

Since your truck has a short bed you would not have pin box to bed side clearance issues, but would not be able to make very sharp turns without having cab to trailer clearance issues.

I included a video of the # GY38FR for you to take a look at.
