Video Transcript for Manufacturer Interaction with the Shocker Hitch Air Cushioned Gooseneck Coupler

Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer, and today I'm with Hunter from Shocker Hitch and he has brought along some of their products so we can kind of take a closer look at them and that's kind of the pros of etrailer. We get to get training and share that with you guys so you can make the best decision with your purchasing. Now, today we have our Shocker Hitch gooseneck search. So we've seen the ball mounts with the cushioned airbag in them and we've definitely seen great results with them, but also you can get this for your gooseneck. Taking a look at these, obviously we have the airbags still in place. This is a pretty cool design, but when it comes to having these bags, that really allows the people to fine tune adjust exactly what they want for their ride quality, correct Correct, yep.

So with the airbag technology, with the goosenecks, we're able to let that customer get the 100% ride they are looking for with their trailer. They can adjust it to whatever they feel is best for them. You know, you might have a guy that likes their gooseneck to ride a little softer, so he might have less air in his bag to where a guy might like a little stiffer, so he has more air in there, but in a sense, they're still getting the cushioning effect with the preferred ride that they want. Towing a gooseneck trailer, a lot of times it's a pretty rough ride. All that metal and weight is transferred through every bump and shock and so to add a point of suspension to soften that blow, what does that do for the person towing So for the person towing, I mean, realistic, it's gonna make a smoother ride for yourself in the front seat.

You know, when you're, when you got those over-the-road guys that are driving eight to 10 hours a day, that's a long time on the road and that's a lot of beating and banging. So in a sense it's going to make your ride in the truck more pleasurable that way. With that, too, when you're able to disperse that energy through this airbag instead of through the frames of the equipment, we're able to add longevity that way, as well. When you're taking that hard mount out of it and that energy is able to go through the airbag, you are now saving on the welds and the truck, the trailer, you're even helping the equipment and the cargo that is on the trailer ride a little smoother, too. Now as far as latching up, this is a nice little design here.

Can you show me how that attaches to the goose ball Yeah, so this is our patented shifter lock coupler. This has got the 2 5/16 ball on there. We also have our 40K, which has a three inch ball option with that. Super simple, essentially back like this is unlocked, then you just push it forward to lock it. So it's smooth, simple process, really easy to use, pretty, pretty foolproof.

The way that these are set up, we have the bag here versus this one that's kind of in a cantilever vertical situation. Why is that So essentially what we run into with some of the bigger horse trailers, enclosed race trailers, over the transport enclosed trailers is they've got big fronts on 'em. So what we had to do then is with some of the short-bed pickups out there, turning radius becomes an issue. So why we had to do that is we then created a nine inch offset to help those guys out with that. Unfortunately, we got into, had to do a redesign on how the hitch works. I mean they still function in the exact same way, just some different motions to it, to where we had to relocate the bag to the front. So it works better with the nine inch offset. So if someone was gonna pick one of these up for their gooseneck, how would they go about making sure they get the proper one So the first two things to look at, step one would be to drop your existing stem out of your trailer to measure the diameter of the tube. So pretty much right on the top, take a tape measure and measure the diameter on the top. So your two most common are gonna be the 3 15/16 or a four inch. Step two would then be to look at your pin. So go out to your trailer and look at both sides, to where on a majority of them, on the driver's side of the trailer, the pin head on an angle will be farther back and on the passenger side the pin will be farther ahead, to where if it's a straight pin, it's the same spot on both sides. Makes sense. So awesome insight for an awesome product. Hopefully this helps you decide if this is right for you and also making sure you get the proper one. So big thanks to Hunter for taking the time to show us this. Oh, not a problem. Thanks, you guys, for having me and really enjoy doing these with you guys. Thank you.

  • What Are the Frame Tabs Called That a 5th Wheel Pin Box Mount to?
Hey David, great questions! I'll answer them in the same order you asked them: 1 - There isn't an official name for those brackets that I know of. They are part of the trailer frame so I guess technically they are pin box frame brackets, but another common term for them is "wing brackets" since they look like wings without the pin box installed. 2 - There are different mounting hole patterns like you referenced and, consequently, there are different pin box sizes and weight ratings. • How to Determine if Shocker 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box Fits Recessed Flatbed Gooseneck
It depends on the dimensions of the recessed gooseneck, but it is possible you can use the Shocker 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pinbox for Lippert 1716/1116/0115 and Fabex # SHK55MR. If you take a look at the diagram from Shocker you can see the necessary dimensions the gooseneck pocket needs to be. The width and length should be at least 12 inches x 12 inches, and the top of the hitch ball can be no more than 2 inches from the top of the pocket. As for height the # SHK55MR is not height-adjustable,...
