This shock-absorbing pin box works with your gooseneck hitch to give a smooth ride while you tow your fifth-wheel trailer. The all-in-1 box has no air bags to refill or small parts to replace. Auto-latch allows for easy hookup. 5.5K pin weight.

    • 5th-Wheel pin box replaces the factory pin box on your trailer
    • Coupler attaches to your truck's gooseneck hitch ball
  • Shock-absorbing design ensures a smooth, steady ride
    • Technology functions like a torsion axle to limit transfer of road shock from trailer to truck and vice versa
      • Reduces chucking and rough fore-and-aft motion
      • Limits bounce and jarring up-and-down motion
    • No airbags to maintain and fewer moving parts to repair or replace than with other shock-absorbing solutions
  • Self-latching lever automatically engages when hitch ball is in socket
  • Cross-shaped holes provide attachment points for safety chains
  • Heavy-duty steel construction
  • Powder coat finish resists wear and corrosion

    • Mounts with existing bolts
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Designed to replace Lippert 1621 and 1621 HD 5th-wheel pin boxes
  • Towing capacity: 30,000 lbs
  • Pin weight capacity range: 3,500 lbs - 5,500 lbs
  • Ball size: 2-5/16"
  • 5-Year limited warranty

Notes:

  • Average break-in period for hitch = 1,000 miles.
  • In order for the pin box's shock absorption to work correctly, make sure your pin weight is within the pin weight range.
  • To calculate correct towing weight for Gen-Y hitches, use this formula: GVWR x 0.22 = TW.
  • Because the Gen-Y Hitch Executive is shorter than the Lippert 1621 or 1621 HD pin box, the clearance between your trailer and tow vehicle during turns might be reduced.

Fifth Wheel to Gooseneck Adapter

Say your truck has a gooseneck hitch for towing your horse trailer, but you want to go camping with your new fifth wheel. You could outfit your truck with a new fifth-wheel hitch that attaches to your existing gooseneck hitch, but that means having to move a heavy, bulky hitch into and out of your truck bed all the time.

You could also purchase an adapter that bolts onto your trailer's existing pin box. But adding a new component to your setup can keep your pin box from working how it was designed. King pin adapters can create a stiff ride and can even strain your fifth wheel's frame by adding too much height at the connection point.

A better option is to use this gooseneck-compatible pin box to easily tow your fifth-wheel trailer with your truck's gooseneck hitch. The box replaces your trailer's existing pin box, which means it's designed to act as a part of your trailer instead of simply bolting over your king pin like an adapter does.

Built-In Shock Absorption for a Smooth Ride

Executive torsion with cable

If you've ever towed a fifth-wheel trailer before, you're no stranger to road shock. Driving over uneven terrain can result in a rigid, bumpy ride. And uncomfortable fore-and-aft chucking can occur when you're starting and stopping. When all of the motions combine, the road shock can even potentially damage your truck or trailer.

This Gen-Y Hitch torsion pin box is designed to absorb road shock at the connection point to create a safe, smooth ride. This is thanks to the internal construction of the box, which is similar to that of a torsion axle.

Pivot points are built into the Gen-Y pin box adapter. This allows for movement between the box, which attaches to your trailer, and the coupler tube, which connects to the gooseneck hitch ball in your truck bed. When your trailer bounces or jerks, the coupler tube will move accordingly.

torsion diagram

Built into the Gen-Y pin box are tubes with inner bars that are surrounded by rubber cords. As the coupler end moves, these inner bars twist inside of the tubes, attempting to follow the coupler's motion. But the rubber cords prevent the bars from twisting too far. And as each bar turns, these cords compress to absorb the rough shock. This means that any shock experienced by your truck can be absorbed before it reaches your trailer, and the shock experienced by your trailer won't get transferred to your truck.

This product is a chucking ENHANCER, not a chucking dampener. Additionally, despite what you have read, my experience with GenY customer service has been terrible. GenY will not support their warranty program, they will try to tell you everything is OK, when the fact is, their product is faulty and does not function to GenY product literature statements “Built-In Suspension Creates Up to 90% Smoother Ride”.
I purchased the GenY executive hitch from eTrailer on 3/10/23, etrailer sent the wrong unit and to etrailer’s credit - they quickly took responsibility and replaced with the correct unit on 3/24/23. I installed on my DRV Elite Suites PS3 just in time to attend the SOITC rally at the Outer Banks on 4/13/23. When we left for this 750-mile one-way trip, the GenY load indicator was in the middle of the green zone, I measured the pin load at 5,200 pounds. Bedrail clearance was my reason for buying the GenY, it replaced a Trail Air on my DRV and a Reese 27,000-pound hitch on my 2022 F450. Bottom line, the GenY system provided no improvement in bedrail clearance, but did offer the ability to switch in different gooseneck balls to adjust for bedrail clearance.
GenY states that a 1,000-mile break in period is required before the GenY torsion system is fully effective. My experience was that at 750 miles the torsion system on the GenY had sagged to it lowest point with the load indicator in the unit outside of the green, this also resulted in losing nearly two inches of bedrail clearance. It looks like it has a metal-to-metal stop so that the lowest the indicator will go is to the white lines outside of the green. I called GenY from the RV park and was told that the unit would not sag further. I purchased a Curt gooseneck ball which was 2 inches higher than the Ford ball to regain bedrail clearance having to rapid ship it to the RV park.
Chucking became downright scary on the 750-trip home. As an example, chucking was induced every time my truck’s ten-speed transmission shifted up. Upon arrival home, I again contacted GenY customer service with a full expectation that GenY would replace the unit. Instead, here is their response: “I spoke with our QC Manager regarding your hitch. He said that you are in the correct unit and being at the top end of the green is normal after the break-in miles. As for the bedrail clearance he said that you would be able to lower the pin box down a set of bolts (with our pin boxes you are only required a minimum of 4 grade eight bolts per side) or use a B&W ball as they are roughly 1 1/2” taller.” This is unacceptable...

Without a doubt the biggest difference maker I have ever used in my 50 plus years pulling trailers. When my wife had to concede that the Gen-Y gooseneck hitch made such a drastic difference.... enough said!

by:

Quality build, easy install, let your truck and trailer do the heavy lifting. My wife and I did this install and took about an hour to get it bolted. I also bought the Grade 8 bolt kit. I’m hauling 20K GTW. The original hitch had Grade 5 bolts and only 5 per side. Now I have 6 per side, 160ft.lb. on bolt torque

by:

The toy hauler pulls so much smoother. I wasn’t expecting to increase my MPG but, I gained a 1/2 mile per gallon. Dealing with etrailer was great as usual.

Just received today after I tracked the whereabouts with not-so-accurate UPS LTL FREIGHT tracking. I difficulty located local freight company that just received this terribly torn up cardboard package with this 205# parcel. Hitch had been placed onto some pallet enroute because it was no longer contained in its GEN Y box. Extent of damage I’ve yet to determine though it has a long and deep gash into the powder coat finish down the exposed side.

I am sorry that this seemed a bit confusing. When it comes to shipping any type of pin box or 5th Wheel to Gooseneck connections, we have to send them on a pallet, due to their weight. This means that they have to be shipped and delivered as Freight LTL. As far as the packaging getting damaged during shipping, and in this case even going missing from the item itself, it all depends on how UPS has transported the pallet from truck to hub to truck, and so on. Unfortunately, we do not have any control on how that system works, especially for freight items. I have sent your information over to our customer service department for them to look into your order and see if there is any way that we can make this right for you.

2023 Heartland Bighorn 3970FB. Replacing factory Roto-Flex and Anderson Ultimate. The GY66FR packaging was perfect upon delivery. Packaged really well with spray foam around unit.
Removal and installation time was around 1 ½ alone with use of my front end loader. This unit is robust to say the least. Fit and finish is perfect, it bolts right into place.
Glad to have the bed of the truck my truck back. From measuring looks like this will help us with our turning clearance as well.
Will update as we put some mile on this Gen-Y

This coupler will have the same height adjustments as the Lippert 1621 and 1621 HD pin box however will be roughly 2 inches shorter overall then your currently pin box so depending on the bed length of your truck you may have cab to trailer clearance issues if not using an offset gooseneck ball.

Very helpful and it's nice to get someone that gets back to you.

by:

I put a flatbed on my truck so I could load my side by side and go wherever we want. This meant I had to figure out a new way to pull my toyhauler. I had a ford factory fifth wheel prep package with the reese hitch. With the flatbed I cant use this hitch anymore. I was planning to use the Anderson ultimate fifthwheel hitch but would have to change the pin box on my toyhauler as well since it was a flexair and Anderson says not to use a pin box that pivots. Sooo......I started searching for a new pin box and came across this hitch. This solved all my problems! Don't need an Anderson hitch as this pin box will attach to the ball on my flatbed. I called and talked with Chrissy who was super helpful. I ordered the pin box and it arrived yesterday. With some help I got it installed in less than an hour. (2 or 3 person job). It looks great and I'm excited to test it out. Fast shipping and great packaging. Thanks etrailer.com!

by:

The looks and ride of the hitch are great. The only flaw is hooking up can be a pain if you don't have a rear camera on your cab. Unhooking can also be a bit tricky as well. Otherwise very happy with the ride.

by:

Very good company to work with, I had a different hitch on order, they communicated to me that the item would be back ordered for a time, I then picked a different hitch, they immediately gave me credit for the first one, and shipped the new hitch. Would recommend this company for all your trailering needs!
