Will I Have Turning Clearance Issues Using The Gen-Y Gooseneck Pin Box On Short Bed Silverado 2500?

Question:

I have a 2020 Chevy 2500 with a 6.5’ box and a 2022 KZ Durango Gold G356RLQ fifth wheel camper. Will I have tight turning issues? I am using a Curt gooseneck C38CR. Will I have side clearance issues when using a Gen-Y Hitch 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box - Auto Latch - Lippert 1621/1621 HD???

The best way to prevent any clearance issues with your 2022 KZ Durango Gold G356RLQ and your 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 with 6-1/2' bed and factory puck system is by using the Demco Autoslide 5th Wheel Hitch # DM79GV. This hitch slides back and gives you up to 14" of additional clearance when performing a jackknife turn.

The Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box # GY38FR measures 16.9" from front mounting holes to center of hitch ball. A regular 1621 pin box this is designed to replace measures 17-3/4" from center of mounting bolt holes to the center of the king pin so this moves it almost 1" closer to your truck. You can always measure your Silverado to verify but in the past I have found the center of the hitch ball to be roughly 42" from the cab of your truck. This means with your KZ being 101" wide at a 90 degree turn the cab needs to be 50-1/2" away to not hit the cab. You could increase turning clearance some by using the Gen-Y Hitch Offset Gooseneck # GY55XR over the Curt # C38CR. This would place the ball back 5" giving you roughly 47" of clearance.

If you decide to go with the Gen-Y you will also need Safety Cables # GY49GR to remain legal since you are switching to a hitch ball connection.
