How to Determine the Support Capacity You Need in Your Landing Gear

If you will be using this landing gear to lift and lower your trailer onto a hitch ball or kingpin, then you should choose the jack you need based on its lift capacity. But, if you are just using it to stabilize or support a parked trailer, then you should focus on the jack's support capacity.

Heavy-duty jacks like this one stabilize about 25% of your trailer's total weight when it's loaded up. For example, a 50,000-lb trailer has a pin weight of about 12,500 lbs. For these legs to work, you'd need a set of landing gear with a combined lift capacity of no less than 12,500 lbs. If you only have one jack that can get the job done, that's great! In fact, this should work more efficiently, allowing you to spend less time cranking.

Note: Do not use landing gear to lift your trailer during tire changes or service work, because doing so will exceed the capacity of the landing gear.

Video Transcript for Bulldog Camper Jack - Landing Gear - BD182404 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the Bulldog side wind square jack, with the non-spring return drop leg, 12 1/2 inch lift, and a 10,000 pound lift capacity. Now, this jack is perfect for agricultural, construction, live stock, or heavy duty utility application. It is a 4 inch square tubing. It's made of a 7 gauge alloy steel, gives you superior strength and durability. It has the painted inner and outer tubes, that are weather resistant, along with the drop leg, is painted. Now, the gear box right here, for the top, is very easy to access for routine maintenance. Over here, you can see it has the two greased inaudible 00:00:35 fittings for easy lubrication.

Now, this is a drop leg, with a non-spring return, which will increase the overall extension for maximum adjustability. Now, when we say non-spring return, it basically means that you will have to physically lift the jack at the foot to return it to the up position, does use the side facing drop leg plunger pin to hold the drop leg in place. This is a direct weld design. The side wind crank, as you can see, is included. The standard foot plate is all included. Now, this jack can be paired with the Bulldog Jack, part number BD182411, to give you a tandem application.

I do want to give you a few specs on this. The overall bracket height on this, which will be measured from the ground up to the top, here, you put a ruler on that, can see it's going to be right at 27 and 3/8 inches, retract it. Now, this does have a lift of 12 1/2 inches. If we fully crank this out and extended it all the way it would measure from the ground to the top, 39 7/8 inches. The drop leg travel, when you pull the pin out, it will travel the maximum of 13 1/2 inches. Again, this is a four inch square tubing.

Again, the lift capacity on this is 10,000 pounds, and the static load capacity on this is 12,000. Basically, just store your handle like that, when you put it back into place, then you're able to crank it. That should do it for the review on the Bulldog side wind, square jack with the non-spring return drop leg, 12 1/2 inch lift, and a 10,000 pound lift capacity.

the jack came the exact day you said it would arrive. Very fast shipping.

Nice jack never used it because it was a lot bigger than I need. Ordered the wrong one so its just sitting getting rusty. sucks to be me. Cost more to send it back. I need a jack for a 14000 lb trailer this one is for a tractor trailer.

by:

We use the jack for farm use. It supports the hitch on a grain wagon when we unhook it from the tractor. It supports the heavy tongue weight just fine.

by:

Very good service and fast . I will recommend this place for all your trailer parts . I will order everything that I will need for my trailers on the future

by:

yes seems to be fine. I thought I ordered the one with the spring return but I must have clicked the wrong item on the website.

I placed an order on 1/10/22 for 1 left BD182400 and 1 right BD182411 10K 26 In. Bulldog Drop Leg Square Jacks. These were backordered at the time I placed the order on 1/10/22, but were due to be in stock at the end of March, then the end of May. In June the BD182400 stock arrived, but I had to pay for the entire order to receive just one of the legs. It is now 8/21/22 and I have paid for both jacks and currently have 1 jack in my garage waiting for it's counterpart and the backorder now says 9/20/22. I'm sure not all of this is the fault of etrailer, but their business practice of requiring full payment for a partial shipment, is not sitting very well after an 8 month waiting period. Yes, my trailer has been on blocks since the beginning of January 22.

Had it welded on trailer yesterday. Working great. Shipping was very prompt, better than I had anticipated.

The lady, CS, who helped me was excellent help while trying to order what I needed. She went beyond the call for me, running out to the warehouse several times because she could not get hold of the company. Excellent experience and I would not be afraid to recommend etrailer.

by:

etrailer staff was great when the guys in the brown trucks claimed to lose my package, then blamed it on me putting down the wrong delivery address, sure. etrailer folks found my package and worked out the details for my package to be delivered. I WILL DEFINITELY shop at etrailer again. Great service.

  • Can a Powered Drive Kit be Added to a Trailers Landing Gear
The Bulldog Powered-Drive Kit # BD1824200100 that you referenced is designed to fit Bulldog single speed landing gear jacks with a 12k capacity. If that is what you have on your trailer this would work well for you. There isn't a universal motor kit that will work with most landing gear sets. You will need to determine who made the jacks of your trailer so that you can see if there is a powered drive kit available for it. Otherwise you will need to upgrade your jacks to a Bulldog set...

  • Power Drive Kit For Bulldog 12K Single Speed Jack
If he has the 12K bulldog single speed jacks on the trailer like part # BD182404 he can use the Bulldog Powered-Drive Kit for Single-Speed Jacks part # BD1824200100 however he will be limited to 7,500 lb lift capacity which won't be an issue since you are not lifting the entire weight of the trailer. The motor will run both jacks at the same time once installed so it is not possible to put one on each jack. I have attached an installation video for your reference.

  • Position of Footplate Handles and Plunger Pins on Landing Gear Trailer Jacks
From what I have seen, there are 2 different configurations for landing gear jacks like # BD182815. First is like the jack you have referenced that has the foot release is perpendicular to the rod through the top center of the jack. The other configuration is like # BD182411, with the release parallel with the top rod. Jack # BD182411 is a companion to the Bulldog Square Jack # BD182400. The Bulldog Square Jack, # BD182404 and can be used in tandem operations with either of the first two...

The difference in the three sets we have is the height. The # UF19-9600001 has a range from 16 to 28 inches, the # UF19-960002 has a range from 21 to 37 inches, and the # UF19-960003 has a range from 26 to 47 inches. All...
