I just opened up my new Class 5 Curt XD hitch and have not yet installed it so my comments are based on first impressions only. It is very heavy duty - and heavy at 40 lbs. - made of extremely thick metal and outfitted with quality Grade 8 bolts with square necks so they won’t turn when torquing on the nuts to attach the main tube to the side mounting plates. My bolts are plated yellow (which I like) rather than silver as you may have seen in some online photographs. It is substantially beefier than my existing Grade 4 hitch and superior in every way. It’s an impressive piece of hardware. I cannot imagine anyone being disappointed with it on specifications, quality, strength, and general appearance. It’s a beast. What I AM disappointed in is Curt’s packaging and the condition in which the hitch arrived. (This is NOT a reflection on etrailer.com as the hitch arrived in Curt’s original packaging.) The unassembled main tube and the two side mounting plates come bundled together with nothing separating them but shrink wrap. No cardboard, plastic, even paper coming between the metal surfaces - just shrinkwrap probably not even a couple of mils thick. With basically metal-to-metal contact in an oversized-box with the bundle jostling around, it would be a miracle if there were no scratches, gouges, or some type of damage to at least one piece, which is exactly what happened to my hitch. The main hitch tube, on the exterior facing plane, on the driver side where I’ll see it every day, has some gouges on it that go through the powder-coating to bare metal. I can - and will - paint them to prevent rust (and, therefore, have to paint the whole hitch to match). But the gouges will still be noticeable as they go through the thicker, pebbly, powder-coat finish and will undoubtedly still appear as depressions in the surface even once painted. I fully realize this kind of surface damage will almost certainly happen with regular usage of the hitch anyway and that it’s certifiable to demand absolute perfection in anything. But if you are someone who cares about the aesthetics of your equipment and keeping it looking new for as long as possible, it is very disappointing to receive such an expensive and prominent piece of hardware damaged right out of the box and requiring immediate repainting. The plastic parts bag had also ripped open in transit, with nuts, bolts, shims, etc. rattling around in the box. I am dumbfounded that Curt packages such a high-quality piece of equipment so shoddily where such damage is virtually unavoidable. I bought from Curt solely due to their being an American manufacturer and to support American workers so this is doubly discouraging. It’s a trivial complaint in the big scheme of things and not worth demanding a replacement over. Just be aware that unless Curt changes their packaging practices it is very possible you will have the wind taken out of your towing project sails just as I have. Again, this in no way reflects on etrailer. My experience to date with etrailer (website, educational resources, staff reviews, ordering, tracking, email contact, etc.) has been beyond exemplary in every way. They rank as a Top Five online retailer in my opinion, maybe even the best.

First of all, the products you find at etrailer are not your garden variety, home depot kind of fair. Much higher quality and grade/weight ratings. So to be able to get hard to find items and then by orderring at least 100$ worth of stuff also get it delivered free in 4 days, is awesome. The prices are incredible too.

My 2018 F350 chassis cab has a Knapheide service body with a Buyers hitch installed by Knapheide. It is bolted and welded in place. Unfortunately, it only has a 2" receiver. To have them change to the 2.5" receiver hitch would cost me approximately $1200. The 20,000 lb. Curt replacement hitch would not work on this truck with this bed. The Buyer's hitch has a weight rating of 16,000 lbs. and 1600 lb. tongue weight. Fortunately, Curt has come through again for me with this ball mount. I bought two: one for my 2" ball and one for my 2-5/16" ball. They are great and the drop is very close to what would be perfect.
Your towing set-up is only as strong as your weakest link and I now know the the ball mount is definitely not my weakest link.

One note to Curt: When you put the stickers on your ball mounts, make sure they're clean. Before I even towed, the thick Curt sticker on both ball mounts started coming off. It feels like there is some kind of coating possibly on the mount and then the decals were applied. I tried pressing them both back on but I doubt they'll last the rest of the week.

But as always, Curt has built me a great product for my needs. I'm a one man landscaper business but have spent quite a bit on Curt hitch products because they WORK.

After a year now, the ball is mount is still working perfectly. It pulls trailers every day and I couldnt be happier.

This drop hitch has been fantastic from day one. This product is very heavy-duty and secure for hauling the heavier loads on the flat-bed car hauler and the boat trailer. Very impressive. Thank-you.

Excellent - Couldnt ask for anything better.

I purchased a 16,000 pound hitch,17,000 pound ball mount, and a 30,000 pound ball. I pull a trailer that weighs 16-18,000 pounds every day and I've had no problems at all with this set up. The hitch went on with no problems at all. I cut the old broken hitch off and had new one on in 45 minutes by myself and back to work. I highly recommend etrailer.com to anyone looking for high quality correct fit accessories

Excellent, also makes a great hammer when your in a pinch.

by:

Very nice hitch perfect for lifted trucks, shipped and arrived very quick too

by:

The hitch arrived in perfect condition. The other parts were in excellent condition as well. It took about 45 minutes to install. The instructions were great. They described the entire process accurately and made the installation go quickly and effortlessly. I used jack stands to preposition the hitch and get the bolts started. The tool provided to snake the front two bolts on the passenger side also worked extremely well.

After doing a bit of research I found I was towing with an undersized ball and ball mount. The information for this product helped me get the correct ball mount for my trailer with correct weight rating and drop to safely tow my trailer. Product is heavy duty and has performed as expected.

I have purchased several Curt Heavy Duty Forged Ball Mounts in different drops.
We tow 35,000 miles a year with several trucks but are only towing app. 3,000 to 7,000 lbs. I need a mount that will take the rough roads and the long haul without any worry. I feel good using this heavy duty mount and ball even though it may be over kill. I have used Curt products for several years and found them to hold up to all our tough towing needs.

by:

I have always had good communication with etrailer and the service has been great. I did make a mistake ordering a drawbar and was going to send it back, but have decided to keep them since I'm sure I can find a way to use them after all. Thanks, for all the communication and I look forward to doing business in the future.

Perfect fit for all my hauling.

by:

I purchased this ball mount for my 2016 Chevy silverado.
This is a first class ball mount , Forged material, not the standard tube design.
I needed the new mount because my old one had started to wear at the hitch pin.
This is the last ball mount I will ever have to buy for my truck.
Great service / price

by:

The hitch fit up very well to the existing frame of my 1993 F150 pick up truck. The only thing I would suggest to improve the package would be to provide a full sized template to locate the holes to be drilled in the frame. I ended up using the hitch itself as a template, but the 50# weight at 50+# made it a little difficult.

I just got this to go with my 2” Class V hitch on my new RAM. Seems like this was the best deal out there and at an amazing capacity of 17,000 lbs. Simple and tough construction. I think it will work great. I put the ball and hitch pin in. Ready to tow. It’s made in China, but isn’t everything these days? I’ve always used chromed ball mounts before, so we’ll see how the black powder coat finish holds up to Maine road salt.

by:

All products arrived in good condition. However the ball and the ball mount were not taped down inside shipping box. These being rather heavy smashed into the other boxes that held electronic stuff and glass mirror extensions. Lucky nothing was broke. Haven't installed yet, will let you know

Perfect ball mount for towing my 11,000 boat and trailer. 3,000 towing miles so far and working well.

by:

The receiver and ball I ordered came quicker than I expected. Both are exactly what I ordered and both look great. I plan on putting them to the test this weekend with my recently purchased 20k Torklift hitch from etrailer as well. etrailer is great.

by:

The receiver is solid steel and heavy so it can handle all the big loads. The unit is made well and has rough type surface like you would get from a casting, this is not a problem just information about the receiver. All the dimensions define by etrail are correct. I would recommend the receiver to others

by:

I am completely satisfied with the products I purchased. The web site was very easy to navigate. I received the products in good condition and 2 days after I placed the order. I definitely recommend etrailer for all your trailer hitch needs.

by:

Excellent trailer hitch. Ordering on the website was very easy and the follow-up from customer service at ETRAILER.COM was unexpected but amazing.

by:

Hitch was easy to install, only had to drill two holes. No. Done In About 45 minutes. Was able to teach my son how to properly torque bolts down. The drop-down and a 2 5/16 ball just added to the package, great products would recommend them to a friend

Popularity of items comes into play when manufacturers determine pricing. The Class III Curt hitch for your 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500, # C13175, is the more popular option even though the Class IV hitch # C14006 has a higher capacity.
