I took a look at the online towing chart for your 2016 Ford F-150 and it lists a maximum trailer weight of 10,000 pounds for your F-150 model that is equipped with the 5.0L engine, 3:55 axle ratio, and 145 inch wheelbase. I do recommend verifying this information in your copy of the owner's manual or by checking with a local Ford dealer.

I am not sure what your truck is already equipped with in terms of towing components so I will recommend all the parts you would need in order to tow a trailer.

For a trailer hitch I recommend the Curt Class IV Receiver Hitch # C26HR because it features the highest towing and tongue weight capacities available for your F-150 (10,000 pounds towing and 1,000 pounds of tongue weight). It will use existing holes in the truck's frame for a no-drill installation and I have attached a video that you can use for reference.

For trailer wiring the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C55774 will work perfectly as long as you have a factory US car connector under the bumper. This will provide you with both a 7-Way and 4-Way connector.

If the trailer you plan on towing is equipped with electric brakes then you will need to add a brake controller. For this I highly recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 along with the Plug-In Adapter # 22292 for installation. This is an excellent proportional controller with one of the best displays on the market for easy adjustments and keeping track of any diagnostic issues. I have attached an installation video that you can check out as well.

Lastly you will need a ball mount like the Curt Heavy Duty # C45341 along with a hitch ball like the 2 inch # A-90 or the 2-5/16 inch # C40085 (depending on what the coupler for your trailer accepts).

I have also included a couple articles on trailer towing that you might find helpful.
