Is a Class IV Trailer Hitch Rated High Enough for a 20 Foot Trailer and 1997 GMC C/K Pickup Truck
Question:
I have a 1997 GMC Sierra 2-wheel drive, standard cab with an 8foot bed. It is powered with a 5.7 litre engine. It has had an extra leaf added to the rear springs and will be towing a 16foot travel trailer. In the future possibly an 18 or 20. Would the class 4 reciever hitch be enough.

A Class IV hitch such as # C14081 might actually have a higher capacity than your 1997 GMC C/K series truck (check the owner's manual) so provided that the trailers you will be towing now and in the future are within the capacities of the truck and hitch, whichever is rated lower, then you will be good to go.
Curt trailer hitch # C14081 is rated for 10,000 pound gross trailer weight and 1,000 pounds tongue weight. When used with weight distribution it is rated for 12,000 gross trailer weight and 1,200 pounds trailer weight.
The recommended ball mount for this hitch is # C45341. Or you might be interested in an adjustable ball mount such as # C45900 since you might be towing different trailers in the future.
