Video Transcript for Curt Heavy Duty Forged Ball Mount Review C45430

What's up everybody, Adam here with etrailer. Today we're going to be taking a look at the Curt three inch ball mount. So this is a big boy. This is for your three inch hitch receivers and it's made a forged steel so it's going to be extremely strong, getting us a gross trailer weight of 21,000 pounds and a max tongue weight of 2,800 pounds. So this is going to be able to be used in two different ways. We can have it with the drop, which is about four inches, and then we can also pull it out and flip it upside down, and that's going to be a two inch rise.

What you're going to need with this is a pin and clip, doesn't come with it, so what I suggest is grabbing a locking hitch pin and clip, might as well, just because if we didn't have a locking one we would just be able to take the pin out just like that, and then, you know, the ball mount goes bye-bye. We like to think that people don't steal stuff, but you never know. And this is what it looks like in the rise position. So whenever you do get this ball mount, grab a locking pin and clip, we have a bunch of them here. And whatever you think is best for your setup, just grab that, but definitely get one that locks.

Another thing with the ball mounts that you're gonna need is a hitch ball. So you want to make sure that the ball is going to be rated for at least the same amount as the hitch right here. So this one right now we have on there is 20,000 pounds. So we're losing a thousand pounds just by putting this ball on here. So if you want to completely max this thing out, you just want to make sure that you piece everything together properly.

And that's pretty much it when it comes to ball mounts. If you we're to upgrade, I mean, when it comes to strength, this is going to be the strongest one. The only other thing you could do, there are some different rises and drops. It's the only thing that really sets each ball mount apart from the other. But this one's just a really, really heavy-duty guy.

So whenever you do get the ball, just make sure that the mounting hole and the shank are the same size. We don't want it any bigger because it won't fit and we don't want it any smaller cause there'll be a way too much play there. So let me just pull this off real quick, so you can see, we paired it up with an inch and a quarter diameter shank. Which is the same size as the hole. So as you can see, there's no play. Maybe just a tiny bit, but that's the right size. And that's what we're really going for. Especially with these heavier duty ball mounts, you want to make sure to piece it together properly. And that's pretty much it for our look at the Curt's four's three inch trailer ball mount..

One solid piece of steel. Works and looks great. I’ve had several people ask me the brand and where it came come.

I already have one for my camper ball and needed another for my other trailers so I wouldn’t have to switch’s balls on the mount all the time….. now I just pull the pin and swap out the whole thing

This thing is STOUT!!!!! If you break one these, your definitely doing something VERY wrong….. also DO NOT this on your foot unless your a glutton for pain!!!!

by:

I have a pickup with a 3" receiver, and this fits well. The pickup is rated for up to 21,000 pounds, and 10% tongue weight, which this mount supports/exceeds.
The three times I have rented a heavy duty trailer since having this setup, the guys at the rental location say "Thats a stout ball mount!" I don't have any plans to tow beyond 10k, but there is the possibility, so I bought the ball mount and ball to support 21k.

  • Recommended Pintle Hitch and Lunette Ring for 2015 Ford F-750 with 23,800 lb Trailer
For your 2015 Ford F750 boom truck, there is not a ball mount rated for that weight capacity. The largest capacity is 20K for a 2-1/2 inch hitch like # C45458 or 21K for a 3 inch hitch receiver like # C45430. We don't have a trailer hitch receiver rated that high either. It appears the truck does have the towing capacity to handle that trailer, but you will need to use a direct mount like the Curt Pintle Hook - Bolt On - 30,000 lbs # C48215. A pintle hook and lunette ring combination...
