Attaches to the shank with an included M8 bolt and Allen wrench.Adapter came with 8 mm bolt which was too big for bike hitch threaded hole i when out and purchased a 6 mm hex bolt which solved the problem. See attached pictures . My rating with e- trailer is excellent anyway due to the fact there just selling the product and there website is very helpful with items they are selling.
The adapter is fine, but my Yakima is older and has 1/4-20 threads for mounting the adapter not the 3/8 that came with it. A 1/4-20 screw and a couple washers and Allen wrench from the hardware store worked.
Part works great. I could not find the older version of the part so I ordered the new version (the same size just shift in the screw tread location). I just had to add a screw thread to the bike rack mount bar with a simple tap and die set and was good to go. The bike rack now fits my 2" trailer mount and there is no shaking or wobbling. Very happy with the end result.

First of all, the product works fine. But there are two versions of the bike rack, each with a different size hole, but only the larger size bolt is contained in the package. My rack had the smaller hole, so I had to get a machine shop to tap a larger hole in the rack in order to use the adapter. Including both size bolts in the package would save a lot of hassle and expense.
Unfortunately, the item was not packed well, and by the time it arrived, a hole had worn through both the padded envelope and the plastic bag inside containing the parts. It was only by sheer luck that the bolt I mentioned above hadn't fallen out and been lost during shipping.
Well, given the fact that I’ve yet to see the replacement (being in S. Africa), I’m assuming it’s just like the original one I (for some dumb reason) threw away a couple years ago when moving.
The help I received from Heidi to make sure that I had the correct replacement adapter sleeve for my Yakima bike rack, was outstanding! After I received the adapter, however, I found out that the accompanying metric bolt provided by Yakima did not fit my older production model rack. Etrailer representative Preston then contacted Yakima on my behalf who provided the correct fix for my problem.
Outstanding customer service from both etrailer reps! I have made many purchases from this company, and plan to continue to do so.

Just fine!
There is not much to this part. It did arrive on-time and the fit and finish it top quality.
Ordered to replace adapter for highlite2. The hex retention screw does not fit. Called etrailer to explain and they were very professional but couldn't really offer help and passed me on to yakima customer service. Yakima explained that they have started making the adapter with a larger hex screw to make the assembly stronger. I gave them my rack purchase info and they sent a replacement spine.
This is the part needed when one little screw snapped on the adapter for my High Lite bike rack. The guys at etrailer helped me figure out the issue and the right part with yakima directly. They were wonderful! Highly recommend them.
Perfect replacement for my lost Yakima adapter. This does not fit the older version of the Yakima Doubledown Ace bike rack but can be made to fit by drilling and tapping the existing 1-1/4" receiver to 8mm X 1.25 for which the included bolt fits. Perfect fit, great quality, excellent packaging and fast shipping!
Overall I'm very pleased with the entire process and product. Easy to order and part received on time. Only reason for the 4 stars is because of the bolt size. As mentioned in numerous reviews, the older racks used a smaller bolt: 1/4 20, not the M8 that came with adapter. It was easy to go purchase the correct size bolt, but for the extra $1, it probably should be included in the kit. Not sure if this is a Yakima issue or etrailer. Once i got the correct bolt, install was simple and rack is now securely installed on my truck.
Exactly what we needed and etrailer.com is the ONLY place I found this part. I could not even find this on the Yakima website.Shipping was quick too! This part broke a few months back on our bike rack due to an accident. I thought I could fix it myself, but decided to check etrailer.com and could not have imagined the price would be so affordable! etrailer.com will always be our first "go to." The piece took about 5-10mins to put in and it fit exactly.

I didn't need the adapter when I bought the bike rack, because my Subaru had a 11/8" receiver, so must have put it in a good place to save it. Bought a jeep with 2" receiver and couldn't find the adapter so bought a new one.
As many have mentioned, some of the earlier versions had a smaller screw size than what is included with this adapter. My rack must be one of the earlier ones. No worries, I have metric taps and the necessary drill bits.
I opted to drill and tap the rack to accept the included M8x1.25 screw. Perhaps it will last a bit longer than the smaller bolt/screw, I saw several people wrote that they sheared off the smaller screw. Time will tell, but the adapter appears to be nicely machined and finished. And it's nice that they included the allen wrench to fit the screw!
The part was as described but for some reason, the Allen bolt that was included was too big for my rack. Not a big deal but I ended up using a smaller bolt that I had to make it work. Not sure what size it came with or what the rack is spec'd at.

Good part, but the included M8 sized set screw does not fit a 2011 HighLite. A quick visit to the hardware store to pick up a 1/4 x 20 set screw (slightly smaller diameter) resolved the issue. The M8 screw fits more recently manufactured HighLites only. It would be good to include both screws with the product or allow a choice.

This is what I was looking for, the product works, but the set srew is to big and I paid for two day shipping and didn't get it until 6 days later.
Great stuff just the shipping got out of hand with original shipper switching to another shipper but besides that great stuff for yakima parts
Product works well however this a replacement for the original as the set screw sheared off after a year of use. Original was purchased elsewhere.
The product was unbelievable but the service as even better. Extremely happy and very pleased with the quality and availability. I am now a customer for life.

This adapter works with the Doubledown Ace and Highlite models made after 2015. As well as the most recent Singlespeed. Anything made before 2015 would use the smaller hex bolt size.
