Video Transcript for Yakima HoldUp Bike Racks Replacement Tongue Review

Hi everyone, It's Evangeline here at etrailer, and today we'll be taking a look at the replacement tongue or shank for your inch and a quarter Yakima HoldUp bike racks right here at etrailer. So the Yakima HoldUp is a tried, tested, and true bike rack, it's been around for a while, and what's really cool about it is you get a lot of different replacement parts, you have a lot of support for it, and there's ways to customize it to make it a four bike rack, a two bike rack, and was pretty cool and pretty unique is you can switch it out with an inch and quarter or a two inch shank as it needs or as needed. So we'll take a look at the inch and quarter shank just to see if it's the right fit for you, your specific Yakima HoldUp bike rack model, and your vehicle. So this is to be used with a newer Yakima HoldUp, but not the Yakima HoldUp EVO. How can you tell the difference Well, if you have the gray Yakima HoldUp, that's the older version, and the one with the black finish is the newer version. Another thing to note is if you're using this to convert your two inch Yakima HoldUp or you just need it to replace it, you cannot use this with the two bike add-on, so just stick with the HoldUp for two bikes only, and not the four with the inch and a quarter shank.

So this is a solid inch and a quarter with an opening for your anti-rattle bolt, and they designed it that way, it's a little bit heftier, just because it has to stay to those specs in order to maintain the specs of a two bike HoldUp with the heavyweight chassis. What's included with this is the inch and a quarter shank and this bright red and silver spring pin, what's not included are the tools you need as well as the hardware, so hopefully, you still have the bolts up here, as well as your anti-rattle bolt from your previous bike rack. If you, let's say, you cross threaded the tongue as well as the anti-rattle bolt, that is something you're gonna have to also replace along with this, so just keep that in mind. Now, the tools I use are a 24 millimeter wrench and and two 3/4 inch wrenches, and let's take a look at that install process. So this is everything I pretty much need for the install process, I have our old shank right over here, so you can see how it's already kind of beat up, it's been used for awhile, you also have the spring bolts, and that's already kinda dirty, still definitely usable, but look at that comparison right there.

So what I'm gonna do first is to set up our latching spring pin. So this fits right into our shank, and just thread in by hand at first to just kinda get that lined up. Once you hand threaded it as much as you can get it, you can then use a 24 millimeter wrench that fits right onto that bolt, and then use that to really tighten it down. Now, I could just lift this up and put the bike rack on top of it as I thread or bolt in, but I'm gonna make it easier for myself, and you can do this too, is I can put it straight into this hitch receiver before I put the bike rack on, you can do this at home on your car. So this is gonna fit right in there into your inch and a quarter hitch receiver, and then don't forget to use your anti-rattle bolt, just to get it a little extra secure.

Now, get your bike rack and then just lower it onto it, don't forget to use that spring loaded pin to secure it. So place your bolt inside those holes right over there, notice how I have the bolt and then the flat washer on one side, and just start threading it. Once you have enough thread on the other side, you're then gonna place a flat washer, and then the included bolts from your previous bike rack that are on there, and now you use two 3/4 inch wrenches to tighten everything down. And once you verify that everything is tightened down and everything is secure, that's it for the install. And that was a look here at our replacement shank or tongue for your inch and a quarter Yakima HoldUp bike rack right here etrailer.com.

My name is Evangeline, and I hope this helped you out..

Very high quality. I replaced this for the original 2" shank on my Yakima Hitch-mounted HoldUp bike rack.

by:

OEM part allows HoldUp Bike Rack to be converted to a 1.25" hitch receiver providing a solid mount to the vehicle. Part was back ordered from factory several months etrail, Terri N, was great keeping me informed of status along the way. Terri N notifed me when part was available and I received the part with no issues. THANK YOU TERRI N and the team at etrailer.

by:

I was able to easily swap out the 2” Yakima tongue with the etrailer 1-1/4” tongue for my Yakima Holdup bike rack. I can now use my holdup rack with my 1-1/4 hitch receiver.

by:

Very substantial packing, bubble wrapped and double boxed. Out of stock when ordered but arrived two months ahead of estimated delivery date. Always been pleased with every order fom etrailer. Great people and service!!!

by:

I bought a used HoldUp and swapped the 2” shank for this 1.25” shank. The swap was easy and the rack is as good as factory fresh! I also bought a threaded lock pin and a few plastic caps, it’s great that this store has so many replacement parts.

by:

The part was exactly what I needed to convert my holdup 2 from 2” to 1.25” to fit my new vehicle.

by:

Perfect part if you have a Yakima HoldUp Bike Rack and need to have both 1 1/4 and 2" hitch (assuming you purchased the 2" Holdup hitch). Took me 2 minutes to go from one to the other.
Great service...Part was on back order but I was assigned a person for me to communicate with.

by:

Remember this product does not come with the mounting hardware to the actual rack or the adapter-to-hitch... just the quick release. Also, if you originally bought the Holdup with the 2inch receiver the mounting hardware is not interchangeable with the 1.25inch adapter-to-hitch.

by:

This is great! I put the Yakima Hold Up on my car in a few hours. I used this part to convert to my 1.25 “ hitch to fit. It worked perfectly! Many thanks to etrailer for helping me.

by:

Need this for my Yakima Hold Up when I got a new trailer hitch that was 1.25 inch. It fits perfect and has been used many times in the last year.

by:

This is almost exactly like the original piece. The change made is the mechanism for locking the bike rack in the same two different positions. This model works as well as the original; it is simply a different design.
I am very pleased that Yakima sells this part separately and that etrailer.com carries this part.
The customer representative, James S. was very knowledgeable and found some difficult to find parts for me.

Thank you.

Great experience with Etrailer.com

by:

Had to buy a bolt/nut for the hitch to receiver at a local hardware stores, but otherwise the adapter attached easily and seems very sturdy and well built

by:

Bought this to convert my existing rack from 2" to 1 1/4" for my vehicle. Worked perfectly, took all of around 4 minutes to switch.

Upon arrival the quick release pin that was included had broken in shipping. I contacted customer service right away and had one at my door 2 days later. Excellent customer service and follow up!

by:

Best and cleanest way to convert a 2” Holdup for use with a 1-1/4” hitch. Looks totally factory. Tip: make sure you order anti-rattle bolt too!

by:

Still like new after being in the Utah weather for a year

by:

Exact fit

by:

Fit my rack and car perfectly
