Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Valterra bug screen for Atwood Hydro Flame RV furnace vents. Pretty simple to install. It's made from a heavy duty stainless steel construction. The screen is designed to keep out unwanted pests like nesting insects, small rodents, things like that. It also is gonna feature minimal airflow restriction. It's gonna come with one screen, one installation tool, and two spring fasteners.
The overall diameter of the unit measuring edge to edge is gonna be about 3 and 5/8 of an inch, and then the overall depth or thickness is about 1 and 5/16 of an inch deep. Now it's always a good idea to inspect your screens monthly and clean when necessary to maintain proper airflow. When you're ready to install it you want to position the screen over the heater vent and determine the best locations to attach your springs. The open end of the spring, this would connect to the screen, and then the other end has a crossbar shaft that goes across. That connects to the vent. Now the hook should engage three wires on the screen, so it goes through there.
Engage three wires and then place this back on the vent. And then you use the included tool as a little cutout in it. So you place the tool through the screen, engage with the crossbar on the other end of the spring, and then you stretch the spring, that way you can easily hook it onto the furnace vent. The springs were too long for the application and the screen was a very tight fit. I made the mistake of installing the screen to check the fit before inserting the springs. I had a heck of a time removing the screen so that I could place the springs in place. It turns out the supplied springs are actually too long I ended up pulling the one end of the springs out ad snapping them across the screen to hold tension.

The screen snapped right onto the vent and held firm, so I saw no need to use the springs. We'll see if it stays on. I have some reservations about using these screens since they can potentially restrict flow of air, but I couldn't find any reviews where this was a problem, and I don't want to deal with wasps and other insects.

This screen fit over my Atwood vent so tight I probably didn't even need to use the tensions springs. But I used them anyway just in case.

- Screens Available for Water Heater and FurnaceI have a couple screens that are close to the dimensions you mentioned. They are the Valterra Bug Screen # A10-1322VP (suburban Models) which is going to be 4.5" x 4.5" and the Valterra Bug Screen # A10-1320VP (Atwood & Suburban) which is going to be 8.5" x 5.9". The screens are for certain water heaters and furnaces, we do not have universal screens. If these screens will not work for you please reach back out with your water heater and furnace make and models and I would be happy to help...
