Video Transcript for JR Products Gas Pipe Sealant Review

Hi there pipe fitters. Today we're going to be taking a look at Jamar's White Stuff from JR Products. This is a PTFE gas sealant compound. That's going to be ideal for sealing up any of the threads on your LP or hydraulic line systems. This is a great product for sealing up any of those threads. Comparable products from JR would be a thread tape.

This is a similar product except for it is a tape that you actually wrap around the threads. If we take this off, we can get a closer look at it here. The tape, you do have to pay attention when wrapping it around the threads. Cause if you wrap it around the wrong direction when you go to thread your fittings together it can actually undo your tape. So make sure you've got it wrapped around it to where when you're tightening it it actually tightens the tape on there.

That's why I prefer Jamar's White Stuff because it just squeezes out of the tube. You can just smear it around the end and it's a lot easier to get full coverage with this versus the tape. Now, some of the drawbacks with this though this is a little bit messier. So if you're working in an interior compartment you don't want to get any of the sealant around that area you might want to consider the tape over the sealing compound but this stuff is also a better sealant as far as the pressure rating than the thread tape. Our thread tape here is only rated for a thousand PSI versus Jamar's White Stuff has 3,000 PSI for gas and 8,000 PSI for liquid.

So you definitely get a lot more pressure with this type of sealant. That being said though, the temperature rating on the sealing compound is only going to be negative 40 Fahrenheit up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Whereas our thread tape here is going to go all the way down to negative 400 degrees Fahrenheit with a maximum of 500 degrees Fahrenheit. So this is great if it's in extreme temperature conditions. If temperature is something you're worried about go with the tape.

And if mess is something you're worried about, go with the tape, but in pretty much every other application I prefer Jamar's White Stuff. We just recently put a propane quick disconnect on this texa mantis here. And we used each of these sealants in it and we had no troubles with each. They all sealed up perfectly first time we used them. Why don't you follow along with us and you can see them in use. So now we're going to show you the liquid PTFE, we're going to be using Jamar's white stuff to seal this up. We're using our quarter inch nipple here. This has SAE threads on both sides so we can thread it into our bulkhead and connect our quick connect to the other side. We're going to take the sealant here and we're only going to apply it to the male threads and I've gone ahead and kind of squeezed the jar needed it to help mix it up inside there before we get started, I want to make sure we get complete coverage all the way around. You can use a brush as well to apply this. I just like to kind of just gently squeeze it out of the tube onto the threads making sure I get full coverage. And once we've got it on there, we can go and thread it in. I'm just going to do this one side for now. So I don't make a big old mess while I'm getting it thread into the bulkhead. We'll then take it and we're gonna thread it into our bulkhead. And we're just going to make sure we've got that all the way tightened down, once it's all the way tightened down, we can move on to snugging down the quick connect onto the other side, making sure we apply Jamar's White Stuff to the other side as well. So now we just want to check to make sure we don't have any leaks. We're just spraying in the end to make sure that's not leaking. It shouldn't, it's all brand new. So everything was good there. The more important part though is to check to make sure that any of the connections where we had screwed anything together that we don't have any presence of bubbles. And what we're looking for is not these buildings you see running down but bubbles that are continually reoccurring because of the pressure escaping from our hose or fittings here blowing those bubbles. We don't see any here. And we're gonna just going to repeat this at each connection point where we had made any connections. And I did go ahead and turn on the propane at the front to make sure that there was pressure in the system to ensure that we can find any leaks. The chemical we're using here to check for leaks is just some soap inside of those spray bottle here. Just a little bit of soapy water we can see it makes plenty of good bubbles for us to make those leaks highly visible. So now that we've got everything installed, we've checked and verified there's no leaks. I went ahead and plugged in our quick connect end into our quick connect here. I did turn the valve here so that way we've got gas flowing. That's going to go over to our grill and then you're going to use the instructions for your grill for ours we have to push in to allow gas to come out and then turn it to hit the striker. And we can see that we've got flame now, we've got nice heat. We're ready to make some dinner for tonight. Now, of course, we're testing this inside and you want to be doing this outside at home. We have a very large shop that has a ton of room in here. So it's not going to fill up with gas like it does very quickly inside of small garage at home. So we're going to turn this off and we're going to go ahead and pack up and get out there so we can enjoy our new propane quick connect. And that completes our look at Jamar's White Stuff from JR Products..

  • Parts Needed to Connect 100 Lb Tank with POL to On-board 5th Wheel Regulator Pigtail
You could technically use the Propane Adapter Fitting # 204128-MBS to convert the POL fitting on your 100 lb tank to a Type 1 or ACME fitting, which will allow you to connect the 15 foot Valve Extension Hose # 100914-180-MBS. This would then allow you to connect the male end (with the threads on the outside) of the extension to the green female end of your existing 12 inch pigtail, attached to your regulator. Using two pigtails is not ideal, but if you need the 15 foot extension plus the...

  • Recommended Replacement For A Horizontal Propane Regulator
Based on the picture you provided you have a horizontal two-stage regulator. For replacement I recommend the MB Sturgis Horizontal 2-Stage Propane Regulator - 11" Water Column Outlet # 108221 that you were already looking at and some Jamar's White Stuff # 37207-30555 to seal up the threads of the regulator to prevent any leaks. You'll want to ensure that the vent is placed down so that water build up in the regulator can properly dissipate out. I also recommend using a pigtail hose like...

  • Can The 1/4" Female Flare Fittings Be Removed From The JR Products 2-Stage Propane Regulator
No, the flare fittings on the JR Products Compact Automatic Changeover 2-Stage Propane Regulator # 37207-31525 are just adapters since flare fittings are don't require sealant and seem to be a more popular option for hoses. The NPT side of the fitting will likely have some sort of sealant, whether it's tape or a type of paste that might fall out on you but that's completely normal. Make sure that you use some sealant tape # 37207-30025 or paste # 37207-30555 when you connect your 1/4" NPT hoses.

  • Low Pressure Propane Cylinder Connector for CAM59013 Regulator
Because you're using a refrigerator that uses low pressure propane, the black MB Sturgis # 204024-MBS will work for this application perfectly. You'll want to use either pipe tape or a sealant like the JR Products Gas Pipe Sealant # 37207-30555 to make sure that there is no gas leakage between the connector and your Camco # CAM59013 regulator.

  • How To Connect A Suburban Elite Griddle To A Disposable 16oz Propane Cylinder
From what I can see there are a few different models with different connections, with the 3/8" male inverted flare (MIF) being the most common. If this is the case for you then you'll need the following parts: The Propane Adapter Fitting # 37207-30225 will connect to the 3/8" fitting on your griddle. From there you'll connect the 1/4" male NPT fitting of the Quick Disconnect Propane Hose # 37207-31195 to it. The female 1/4" NPT of the quick disconnect on the other end of the hose will...

  • Should All Propane Connectors Have Rubber O-Rings To Prevent Leaks
Different fittings require different methods of leak prevention so you won't always have a rubber O-ring on the fitting. For example, if we look at part # MBS77FR we see both a flare and NPT fitting. Using sealant tape # 37207-30025 or putty # 37207-30555 on the flare fitting can actually prevent the fittings from fully sealing together and you'll end up with a leak. On the NPT side not using some sort of sealant will likely allow a leak. POL fittings, like the # 204037-MBS you were looking...

  • Recommended Replacement for GR-618 High Pressure Regulator
Thank you for the photo. Your JR Products model GR-618 is a single stage, 18 psi, high-pressure regulator that is no longer available. It has been replaced by the JR Products High Pressure RV LP Gas Regulator (model GR-630) # 37207-30325, which is a suitable replacement. I highly suggest also picking up a tube of gas pipe thread sealant # 37207-30555 to help prevent any leaks. This can be used on all metals, plastic, PVC, fiberglass, CPVC, and nylon threaded applications.

  • Does Sealant Need to Be Used on The Pigtail Going From a Regulator To a Propane Tank?
You will need to either use Pipe Sealant # 37207-30555 or Thread Sealant Tape # 37207-30025 on any non flared fittings such as the end on the Pigtail # 100473-12 you were looking at which threads into the regulator. You do not need this sealant on the tank side as the propane tank has its own seal.

  • How to Connect MB Sturgis Sturgi-Stay T-Fitting to 1/4" NPT Fitting
Thanks for reaching out! It sounds like you have an unusual setup because to my knowledge all 100 lb motorhome propane tanks use the POL port like what came on the MB Sturgis Sturgi-Stay T-Fitting w/ Hoses # 103539-MBS you got from us. With that being said, if you're needing the Propane Adapter Fitting # 37207-30095 then this takes a 1/4" Male NPT fitting and changes it to a POL fitting that your MB Sturgis T-Fitting is compatible with.
