Do I Need a Brake Pressure Reducer?

If your car has active or continuous power assist brakes, you're going to need to use a brake pressure reducer while you're flat towing with the BrakeMaster. Proportional braking systems such as the BrakeMaster apply the brakes in the car with the same intensity as you apply them in the motorhome, but since your vehicle keeps the brakes active even with the engine off, this can apply too much pressure to the brakes and damage the system. This brake pressure reducer can limit the pressure back down to the level you need, avoiding overbraking.

Some vehicles that have active or continuous power assist braking systems are the Hummer H3, Lexus GX 470, Ford Escape Hybrid, Mazda Tribute Hybrid, and Mercury Mariner Hybrid. Consult your owner's manual or the vehicle manufacturer to determine whether or not your vehicle has this braking system.

This is a necessary component when using the Brakemaster system. I have it installed and adjusted for what I think is correct for the Maverick.

This is the second one I’ve purchased! They work great on my 2023 Jeep as well as my 2019 Ram 1500.

Kevin and I have had Excellent experience with 99.9 percent of the people we worked with at etrailer. We did a DYI with a 2005 Itasca Horizon KD Motorhome and a 2012 Chevy Silverado 1500 4 x 4 in regards to flat tow installation. Have to say we are very happy with the helpful personnel at etrailer. Could not have done this without you all. We still have 1 part to install, hopefully this Sunday, brake pressure reducer. Let you know after that is installed. Thanks for all your help.

  • Parts Needed For Flat Towing a 2024 Ford Maverick Behind a 2010 Winnebago Journey With Air Brakes
First of all you will need the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit 524470-5 # RM97RR for your 2024 Ford Maverick. The item # RM39FR you found is Roadmaster part number 524465-5 which fits certain Ford Escapes. Do understand the baseplate above does not use a crossbar. If you have a set of tow bars like the Sterling # RM-576 it requires a Crossbar # 910021-00 and you would use the Base Plate # RM37RR. For the electrical/lighting you will need the Wiring Kit # RM-154 and the 6-Pin...

  • Is Pressure Reducer Required when Using BrakeMaster Braking System on a 2018 Ram 3500
The pressure reducer # RM-900002 is designed for use on vehicles that have active or continuous power assist braking systems so if that is what you have on your 2018 Ram 3500 then you will need the pressure reducer. But from what I could find the pressure reducer is not required on this vehicle. You will need a seat adapter though, # RM-88272. You will also need a stop light switch kit. If your truck has adjustable pedals use # RM-751461. If it does NOT have adjustable pedals use # RM-751460

  • Does the Brake Pressure Reducer Install on the Vehicle or Supplemental Braking System
Yes, the RoadMaster Brake Pressure Reducer, item # RM-900002, connects to the air line in the supplemental braking system and does not attach to the vehicle. The pressure reducer is designed to work with RoadMaster BrakeMaster supplemental braking systems, and does not work with the Even Brake Portable Proportional Braking System. The Even Brake system is not designed to be used with vehicles that have active (or, continuous power assist) braking systems.

  • Does Reservoir of RoadMaster BrakeAway Kit for BrakeMaster Have Specific Mounting Location
It is definitely a smart idea to use the BrakeAway Kit # RM-8600 with your Roadmaster BrakeMaster although there is not necessarily a recommended spot we can offer to install the reservoir in a 2016 Ford C-Max. We have not had a chance to install this specific part in this specific vehicle, but I took a look at the owner's manual and since the air lines do need to be two feet away from a heat source like the engine, your best bet is off to the right (if you are facing the front of the car)....
