Parts Needed For Flat Towing a 2024 Ford Maverick Behind a 2010 Winnebago Journey With Air Brakes

Question:

Hello! We have a 2010 Winnebago Journey on a Freightliner chassis with exhaust brakes. It already has a Roadmaster towbar in place that folds up to the RV - not sure which model. We are purchasing a 2024 Ford Maverick Lariet Hybrid. I called Roadmaster, and they said the 524470-5 RM39FR will work fine. They also said the other parts I need are RM-9060, RM-900002, RM-154, and RM-88400 please see the attached screenshot of my etrailer shopping cart. Can you confirm this list? I am especially concerned about the Braking System working with exhaust brakes. Can you also give me the substitute part list I might need if we went with the Demco Air Force One instead of the BrakeMaster? I appreciate your help!

First of all you will need the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit 524470-5 # RM97RR for your 2024 Ford Maverick. The item # RM39FR you found is Roadmaster part number 524465-5 which fits certain Ford Escapes. Do understand the baseplate above does not use a crossbar. If you have a set of tow bars like the Sterling # RM-576 it requires a Crossbar # 910021-00 and you would use the Base Plate # RM37RR.

For the electrical/lighting you will need the Wiring Kit # RM-154 and the 6-Pin # PK11608 as long as you have a wiring harness with your tow bars. Other wise the Kit # RM-15267 will give you the wiring, 6-pin and the flexible connection harness you will need. You will also need a Charge Line # RM-156-25 with either option and the Brake-Lite Relay Kit # RM-88400.

I do prefer installing the Demco Air Force One Supplemental Braking System # DM26VR over the Roadmaster BrakeMaster # RM-9060 as you will not have any components to attach and remove from your brake pedal. You also won't need the Brake Pressure Reducer # RM-900002 with the Demco.
