Hi there flat towers. Today, we're going to be taking a look at Roadmaster's replacement monitor wire cable. These are available in either a 50 foot length for your RV side, or a 15 foot length for your vehicle side. This is the cable that has a bullet connector on the back of your RV, or potentially at the front of your vehicle, depending on which side you're replacing. And the cable then runs the length of your RV up to the front of your monitor light, or for your vehicle it runs from the front inside to your stoplight switch. You can see the wire here underneath our RV, where I had to run it forward.

And we just recently replaced it because our old wire was shorted out and it was causing the monitor light to come on all the time. And with 50 foot of length, you shouldn't have any problem running it front to back on any of your motor homes out there. Even your real big ones, you'll have plenty of length to make the run all the way underneath and up into the inside. And here on the inside of our motor home, we've got our light here and you can see the replacement cable that we run. We just butt connector it right to the red wire on our monitor. Some of your braking systems also come with an audible board, and you can hook it to there as well so you can get that audible functionality for those Roadmaster breaking systems.

And since this cable so long, and it just matches your old one, it really is an easy replacement because you just got to follow your old cable up and run your new one right along with it, routing it inside.Over here on the vehicle side, if you're replacing it, it's going to be very similar. You've got your bullet connector, that's going to be at the front of your vehicle so you can connect it to your motor home with the patch cable, and it's just going to route through our engine compartment inside the vehicle. And again, we're just going to follow our old cable routing it through the engine compartment through a grommet or any location we can in the firewall to get it inside to connect to our stoplight switch. The vehicle and the motor home is connected together with a patch cable that has a male bullet connector on each end. And if this gets damaged, we do have replacements of these here at etrailer.com as well. Now, if you're looking at these and you probably have an issue with your current monitor light, so just some quick ways to narrow down where the fault is.

What I would do is I would have a friend be inside the vehicle, pressing the brake pedal, and you may need to turn the key on depending on your vehicle. And that will then energize our stoplight switch and send voltage down it, and we should be able to take our test light, hook one end to ground, and then the other end we'll touch here. And while the friend you have is depressing the brake pedal, you should eliminate your test light when you touch this. You should have voltage there. If you do, and you know that your vehicle side is good, so then I would put the patch cable back in. I would go to the other end of my patch cable at this point, I would have my friend depress the brake pedal again, and I would check for voltage on the other side of our patch cable.

If we have voltage here, then we know that our fault is going to be with our motor home side, or on the LED indicator light. At this point, you could go up to the LED indicator light. You could slide it out and you can just poke into the butt connector there with tester to see if you're getting voltage there. At any point, wherever you lose voltage, you know the fault is between the last place that you had voltage and the current place you tested with no voltage. Now, if you just purchased a new vehicle or motor home, and you're looking at this because you're planning on moving over your braking system to the new vehicle that you've purchased, then I would recommend instead of buying just the replacement cable, I would recommend buying the full replacement kits. We've got a full vehicle side kit for various Roadmaster systems for their monitor lights, as well as for the RV side. And this is going to come with everything you'll need to get it swapped over so you can use your BrakeMaster or InvisiBrake or 9,700 series portable system with your new setup. And that completes our look at Roadmaster's replacement monitor light cable for their supplemental braking systems.

I had a long order to get my towed vehicle prepared for towing. Kevin was very helpful in getting me the correct items to get my brake system ready. He saved me money by not duplicating the items available in a package sale. The items came earlier than expected. I recommend you contact Kevin if you have questions about items you really need. I will purchase all my needs from Etrailer.
