Video Transcript for Reese Gooseneck RP50223 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at part #RP50223. These are the Reese safety-chain attachments for gooseneck hitches on fifth-wheel rails. These are going to provide your attachment points for trailer safety chains. These will mount to most Curt, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Reese, Valley and Husky fifth-wheel base rails. This portal right here simply just drops in the slot on your rail, and then it's going to secure with the included pin and clip. This part number is going to include two safety chain loops, two pins and two clips. They're made from a steel construction.

They are rust resistant as well as corrosion resistant because they have a nice black powder coat finish on them, so they're built for strength and durability. They're going to be made here in the USA. It's going to feature a line pull capacity of 18,000 pounds. Let's take a look at some of the overall measurements real quick, starting with the overall length: Measuring from edge to edge is going to be about 6-1/4"; the overall width it's going to be about 3-3/4"; if we take a measurement of the height that we would have from the base rail to the top of the loop . Measuring from this point here to the top of that loop, it's going to be about 2" tall. The tab that sticks out the bottom is going to give us a measurement of about 1-3/16", so you combine those two measurements and it would give you an overall height of 3-3/16" about right there.

But again, sticking up from the top of the rail, once this is installed from the bottom of this point right here to the top of the loop it's going to be about two inches. That's going to do it for our review of part #RP50223. These are the Reese safety chain attachments for gooseneck hitches on fifth-wheel rails. .

Order my Hitch & accessories on a Monday and received on Friday!! Great Customer service and all parts arrived.
Set right into place and only a 5 minute setup
One note on the railing hitch's this will put your goose neck trailer setting little higher than usual as it is a good 5" addition from the regular floor ball mount. So have not pulled a full load on the cattle trailer but empty it pulled great!!
Great Product and will order again from e-trailer

I purchased the Reese hitch components from etrailer about a year ago because I was going to begin hauling RV trailers for a living. I haul out of Goshen, Imgoing I know. and haul all over the US and Canada. I know that I can hookup and never have to worry about whether or not my load is secure, because I know that it is.Ive never had one moment of problem or worry with these hitch products. I will continue to use and buy Reese products from etrailer. One very satisfied customer.

by:

I purchased the Reese Safety Chain Loop for my Reese gooseneck hitch. I was not aware these even existed till I was searching etrailer.com for safety chains. These loops slide right into the slot on the hitch and the chain attaches to the loop...no holes in the bed of my truck....these are awesome! I also purchased Andersen Safety Chains that hook right on...no worries hauling my horses now.

I loved the video on how to install the safety chain holders. The company delivered the product very quickly with excellent email communication. I would highly recommend this company.

Like it should.

by:

The product was high quality and has served me well. I am using it with my gooseneck hitch adapter. Ordering was easy, shipping was great and appropriate in time to deliver. Thanks

by:

Prompt shipping and looks to be a quality product. Not sure if everyone who converts to a gooseneck knows about the safety chain requirement. This item gives you a solid place for your safety chains to connect to your truck.

by:

The advertised description if perfect. I use these as tie down points within my truck. Likewise, they work great with my 5th wheel and gooseneck trailers as safety chain tie points. I got the tie downs within a week of ordering them. So, 5 star. Zero complaints.

by:

Simple to install. If you can pin a hitch you can install these on your gooseneck plates. Hook your safety chains and roll on down the road.

by:

Process of ordering was very straightforward with no issues. Product was shipped on time and product was exactly what I expected. Would definitely recommend etrailer to a friend.

Safety chain attachment works great! Attaches directly to bed rail, and installation is simple. Needed these attachments to meet federal DOT requirements for safety chaining trailers to tow vehicles.

by:

Package arrived as planned and am putting this to use this weekend, looks well made and will feel safer with my breakaway chains attached to these hooks.

by:

  • Where to Attach Safety Chains When Using a Gooseneck Plate in 5th Wheel Rails
I do have a solution but I do not have a state by state breakdown of which ones will allow you to attach the safety chains directly to the gooseneck plate such as # RP58079. The safe bet is to just assume that none of the states allow it. Then you could use safety-chain attachment # RP50223 which will install on the rails.

  • Is the Reese Safety-Chain Attachment # RP50223 Used for Fifth Wheel or Gooseneck Trailers
For fifth wheel trailers there isn't a safety chain requirement like with gooseneck hitches. The part # RP50223 that you referenced is a safety chain setup attachment point for when you are using a gooseneck adapter on a fifth wheel rail like the part # 16055. Since you said pin box that would indicate that you have a fifth wheel trailer and this would not be needed. On gooseneck trailers there will be safety chains attached to the frame/coupler of the trailer.

  • Recommended Safety Chains for B&W 5th Wheel Hitch and MorRyde Pin Box
We do not carry any type of bed saver for the B&W hitch. The product was discontinued and no manufacturer we carry does anything similar. For your safety chains, I recommend the Tow Ready Safety Chain Kit with Clevis Hooks - 44" Long - 16,000 lbs - Qty 2 # 49150. These chains are not required on a 5th wheel hitch, so they will require a customized install on your MorRyde Pin Box. You can then use the Reese Safety-Chain Attachment for Gooseneck Hitches on 5th Wheel Rails # RP50223...

  • How To Install Safety Chain Attachment U-Bolts With Ranch Hitch Gooseneck to 5th Wheel Adapter
Which U bolts you will need, depends on the manufacturer of your gooseneck hitch. If you have Curt Quick Goose 2 Gooseneck Hitch, you will need Safety-Chain U-Bolt Kit for Curt Quick Goose 2 Gooseneck Hitch, part # C113. If you have a Reese or Draw-Tite Remov-A-Ball Goosneck Hitch, you will need Replacement U-Bolt Safety Chain Kit for Remov-A-Ball Gooseneck Hitch, part # 6308. You could also install part # 6308 in your truck bed to use with other brand gooseneck hitches. You would need...

  • Are Additional Parts Needed to Install the Reese Gooseneck Hitch # RP58079 on a 2005 Ford F-350
If the Reese Above-Bed Gooseneck Hitch, # RP58079, will fit in the rails that you currently have installed on your 2005 Ford F-350, then you will not need any additional parts. The mounting tabs on this hitch measure side to side 10 inches from center to center and front to back 21-15/16 inches center to center. You will want to measure the mounting holes in your rails to see if this hitch will fit. This hitch is designed to fit standard fifth wheel base rails from Curt, Draw-Tite,...

  • Should the Hitch Ball On The Reese The Goose 5th Wheel Adapter Spin
Thank you for the picture of your adapter! The 5th wheel to gooseneck adapter, The Goose, that you bought is part # RP58079. The hitch ball is designed to rotate to reduce binding with the gooseneck coupler. The newer model of the Reese The Goose # RP58079 comes with built-in safety-chain loops. Since your model does not come with this feature, you can use the Reese Safety-Chain Attachment for Gooseneck Hitches # RP50223. These safety chain brackets will install on Reese, Curt, Draw-Tite,...

  • Safety Chains Required When Using An Adapter to Tow Gooseneck Trailer w/ A 5th Wheel Hitch
I've spoken with a few of my towing industry contacts, who tell me that even if you use an adapter like the # KPG5-R30IP, safety chains should still be used. If the fifth wheel hitch you are using is compatible with industry standard bed rails, then you can use part # RP50223 to provide an attachment point for the safety chains. To prevent the chains from snagging on anything, you'll need to ensure that the safety chains are long enough to allow the trailer to make turns, but no longer...

  • Will Reese Safety-Chain Attachment Fit PullRite Rails
The Reese Safety-Chain Attachment # RP50223 is meant for gooseneck trailers when the pickup that is doing the towing only has 5th wheel rails and an adapter similar to part # 16055 (if it didn't already have safety chain loops). As long as your PullRite rails are the industry standard kind then yes, this kit will fit your application just fine. If you have some of the specialized PullRite rails then you'd need to speak with them about safety chain options.

  • Comparing the Curt Spyder and Curt Gooseneck Hitches for 5th Wheel Rails
The Curt Spyder gooseneck hitch that fits in 5th wheel rails # 16085 is just a different design than the plates such as # 16055. The Spyder cannot be mounted with an offset (with the ball closer to the tailgate) but since you have a long bed truck you would not need the offset for turning clearance. The Curt Gooseneck plate, # 16055, has the ball welded closer to one end than the other so it can be mounted with an offset. Both types of hitches have places to attach safety cables. However...
