Today we're going to take a look at the Hayes 10 inch left-hand electric trailer brake assembly for 3500 pound axles. Electric brakes are easy to install. They offer more user control than hydraulic brakes. Basically, they only require an electric brake controller which we sell separately on our website, so there's no actuator, hydraulic lines necessary with electric breaks. This one is a manual break adjustment design. It does require periodic adjustment of your break shoes and you do that by just turning this adjustment gear at the bottom here, and then you can adjust your breaks for your application. This is a four bolt mounting flange, you can see the four bolts back here, and it does come with the nuts also, so all the mounting hardware is included to install this on your axle. The application for this assembly is for 3500 pound axles. The size on this brake assembly is 10 inches by two and a quarter and what those sizes or dimensions mean, the 10 inch would be the diameter from this shoe all the way across to this shoe, so edge to edge is 10 inches. The width of the shoe at a pad is going to be two and a quarter inches so ten inch by two and a quarter inches. This one is a left-hand driver side assembly and the way to tell that now on a new assembly, it should usually have a sticker that'll tell that, but if the sticker wasn't there, the easiest way to tell what side the assembly goes on is look at the size of the shoe.
The pad on it, the pad goes from here to here, and on this one goes all the way from here to here. This is the shorter pad, so the shorter pad is the primary shoe so it always faces the front of the trailer. That means this would be on the left-hand driver side. This is designed to work with 10 inch break drums and as a I mentioned, these are electric brakes so if you notice on the back, it does have the two green wires coming out. These do need to be connected. One goes to good clean ground and the other goes to a break feed for power and either wire for either function would work. But that should do it for the review on the Hayes 10 inch left-hand electric trailer brake assembly for 3500 pound axles..

10" x 2-1/4" Driver's-side electric trailer brake assembly fits 3,500-lb axles. Mounting flange has 4-bolt pattern.Perfect fit ... exact parts to rebuild my 10" trailer (camper) brake system. Take a look at my pictures... "Before" and "After".
The before picture is the product of a trailer separating from a tow vehicle at 70 mph and the safety brake pin pulling and engaging the brakes. That was good and saved the trailer. The problem turned out to be the pin did not get put back into the safety brake block and the trailer was pulled for 60 miles with the brakes engaged. Note the molten brakes parts that settled in the bottom of the "Before" picture. With the expert help from Tommy at etrailer I ordered the right parts and he gave me a tip or two to replace it all myself as you can see in the "After" picture. Tommy from etrailer was a real help and saved me from ordering the wrong parts.
All parts received in great shape as expected. Install new hub assembly and adjusted. Has been running for about one year with no issues.
No problems, thus far!!! It was an easy install with help of etrailer's videos.
Exact replacement for the brakes on the AL-KO torsion axle under my 2005 Flagstaff (Forest River) pop-up. Super easy to replace and be back on the road in no time.
Everything worked fine for the time I had the trailer before I traded it in.
