Video Transcript for Pollak Wiring PK34310 Review

Today we are going to be reviewing part number PK34310. This is a universal design twenty amp rocker switch with a red pilot light. It's going to have the on and off circuitry so two functions there. This is a single pull, single throw rocker switch with a black nylon bezel and housing. Again, it's going to feature that red pilot light here on one side of that rocker switch. It's also going to feature solid brass blade terminals.

Now this is a universal design for automotive, truck, bus, marine and RV applications. It's going to feature a snap in mounting design. So you can see that it has these tabs here on top that are going to be pushed down. Then once it gets inside of the mounting location, they're going to expand back out which is going to hold the plug or the rocker switch into place. So it's got that nice little feature with the snap in mounting. When it comes to the DC volts that's going to be twelve volts.

DC amps it's going to be twenty amps. The width of the terminals, those are going to measure a quarter of an inch wide. Again, it's going to have the on and off circuitry. The red pilot switch is going to come on when the switch is turned on. You're going to get four terminals here on the back of the housing and they're going to be a blade style terminal. Now, a few measurements to go over with you real quick just to make sure this is going to work good for your application.

This is designed to fit, take a measurement here of the height, approximately an inch and a half tall panel cut out by three-quarter inch wide panel cut out. Again, these are approximate measurements. I'm giving you measurements to get you close to know the actual size of the cut out that you're going to need. Now when it comes to the thickness of the panel that this will install in, that's going to be anywhere from three thirty-seconds of an inch to one-eighth of an inch or to three- sixteenths of an inch, so you got a variety of options with the panel thickness. A nice little feature to have, again, is the universal design for automotive, truck, bus, marine and RV applications and it's got that nice little red pilot light on there.

That's going to do it for our review of part number PK34310 this is the universal design twenty amp rocker switch from Pollak. .

Switch works great, but only after considerable effort trying to identify the pins (the switch comes without wiring instructions). The information for the pins provided by etrailer was not accurate for this switch. The switch manufacturer was great and provided me with a schematic drawing so I could identify the correct wiring for the switch (see the attached photo and drawing). You need to install a jumper wire for the lamp either from the line pin (if you want the light on all the time) or the load pin (if you want the light on only when the switch is on) for the lamp to work. Easy installation in the switch panel in our camper.

Just installed and appears to be working as advertised. The website product details really should say that minimum installation temp is 60 degrees. It doesn't! My son and I had to install it anyway. No choice. Then in stalled R2 doulbe-sided foil backed insulation under the tank ( he's going off the grid in his travel trailer) and we had to do all we could to insure his water system would not freeze. The heating pad is working and we're filling the water system tomorrow. Also the PK34310 rocker switch has absolutely no info about what terminal get connected to what wire! You really need to to have info on your website for this. After some digging online I was able to find the proper wiring connections. It would require almost no effort on etrailer's part to do this.

If looking at the back of the switch, PK34310, with the light on the bottom of the switch, bottom left is power out. The top left is 12 volt in. Top right is 12 volt power to light the switch and bottom right is the ground.

Absolutely great to deal with. Fast shipping, best price, and real customer service with 7 days a week representation. The illuminated switch I received had no wiring diagram from Pollack (and was wrong when one was found) and was configured oddly. The light wouldn't illuminate when the switch was turned on. Calls were returned and a resolution was recommended by using a bypass wire from the output post to feed the input power post that sent power to the light circuit of the switch (I was having a bad day, should have thought of it w/o the call but didn't).

by:

Haven't installed it yet, but would have liked to see some instructions included. Hopefully, I have it figured out through pre-installation trial and error. It is exactly what I need for adding a heater to my trailer's water tank.

by:

Works as designed, wired it in with the tanks heaters.

by:

Cheap and easy fix to freezing tanks!

by:

by:

The lights (and other items) I ordered and received seem to be of good quality. Shipping and packaging were good

by:

Haven’t installed yet but as usual they were quick with getting my order to me. I am starting to go here first for my RV needs.

Part was easy to locate and purchase. Exactly what I needed.

  • Wiring Locations for 12 Volt 4 Blade Rocker Switch with Light
The manufacturer doesn't have the diagram for the switch so I've attached a photo to assist. If you look at the back of the switch with the light on the bottom, the top left is 12V power input and bottom left is 12V power output. The top right is 12V power to the LED light and the center on the side is the ground.

  • Does Light Always Stay on When Using Rocker Switch?
The Universal-Design Rocker Switch - SPST - On-Off # PK34310 has a red pilot switch which comes on when the switch is in the "on" position and vice versa. This switch uses on-off circuitry, so when you flip the switch to the "on" position your lights will be on, and when flipping it to the "off" position they will turn off. I've added a link to a video review of this product for you to take a look at.

  • Pollak Universal Switch Connections
It may be that the Universal-Design Rocker Switch part # PK34310 is bad. I've included a picture for you of where to connect the wires. The 12V LED light should be connected to an ignition power source if you want it lit when your key is on or to a light power source if you only want it to illuminate when your lights are on. If you've got it wired as the pic indicates there is a problem with the switch.

  • Is There a Panel for Pollak Universal-Design Rocker Switch
Hi there! The Pollak Universal-Design Rocker Switch # PK34310 does not have a specific panel available but I can tell you exactly what size the panel cutout needs to be for this to snap into place. The switch will snap into a 0.830" wide x 1.450" tall cutout and will fit a panel that is 0.093", 0.125" or 0.187" thick. I have added a link to a video review of this switch for you to check out as well.

  • Can the ThermaHeat RV Holding Tank Be Wired Straight To A Battery
The ThermaHeat RV Holding Tank part # 277-000164 can be hooked up directly to the battery, red to positive and white to ground but it would run continuously if done so. Therefore, I do recommend installing a switch in-line like part # PK34310 so you can control power but it is possible to hook the leads directly to the battery.
