  • Safety for Heating Elements (CSA) C22.2 No. 72-m1984 (R2004)
  • Flammability tests (UL) 746C, 15 and CSA 0.17,9,2
  • Dieletric Voltage Withstand Test (UL) - 1000 volts/1 minute
  • Thermal Aging Test (UL)

Note: This heater pad should be installed on non-conductive surfaces only.

Why ThermaHeat?

When the outside temperature is cold enough, the gray water or black water dump valve pipe or elbow on your RV will freeze. This stops you from being able to dump your gray water or black water tank. Furthermore, the frozen water could potentially cause cracks or other irreparable damage, which would mean you would have to replace the pipe.

The full-contact ThermaHeat heater pad will prevent this by keeping your pipe warm during freezing temperatures. It can also completely thaw out a pipe if it's already frozen, assuming that it hasn't been damaged. The heater pad does all the work for you, preventing you from having to go out in the cold and thaw it out by hand with a heat gun or hair dryer, which can melt the side of your pipe if not used properly.

Installation and Wiring

ThermaHeat Peel-and-Stock Installation

This heater pad has easy, peel-and-stick installation. The flexible carbon fiber material is designed to fit the contours of any valve pipe or elbow surface. The pad is meant for use on black water and gray water pipes, but can be installed onto freshwater pipes as well.

ThermaHeat 2-Wire Design

The pad has a white wire for ground, and a red wire for power. This 2-wire design is compatible with DC power while your RV is in transit. It can also run through a converter while connected to a power source when your RV is parked. The pad wires into a wall switch on your RV, letting you turn it on and off as needed.

Additionally, you are able to install this pad with other ThermaHeat heater pads (sold separately). In order to do this, they must be connected and run parallel. You would daisy-chain the red wires together and connect them to the battery of your RV or camper and then daisy-chain the white wires together and ground them. In order to turn the pads on and off, you will need to install a switch (sold separately) between the battery and the pads.

Product works really well. I used multiple heaters to keep water tanks and plumbing from freezing on bus tiny home conversion. The shipping to Canada was very fast. I would definitely recommend this product and seller.

by:

Had to sacrifice the original Thermaheat on the rework and installation of a cam-lock waste dump. Certainly can attest to the adhesives. They are permanent. Lower wattage is ideal. Multiple correctly placed are far more effective than a single higher wattage unit. The quality seems to be there.

by:

Working great!

by:

Install 3 holding take heaters, 1 fresh water tank heater and 5 elbow/ pluming heaters on my trailer. All of the heaters running at the same time draws less than 300 watts so I can now leave then on when towing without having to run my propane heater in the trailer. I added R30 insulation to my underbelly and took a trip to Angel Fire NM where one night it got down to -24 degrees F. None of my tanks froze. I had one temperature probes directly on my black water tank and it was 53 degrees with the -24 outside. Every day was below freezing with temps in the lower teens each night. I believe these are rated at -11 but it is a good idea to have an enclosed underbelly to keep the rest of your pluming warm.

by:

Performs exactly as described and would highly recommend them for someone looking to give their trailer protection while operating during freezing temperatures. Easy to install and wire!

by:

Can’t wait to try it out in very cold weather. The shipping was quick and the price was good. The product was as described and seem to be well thought out. Now I can be sure of fresh water even in freezing weather and to be able to dump my tanks before I leave the camping site in cold weather.

by:

Easy install, appears to work as designed. Instructions say to clean surfaces w/alcohol, I'm a believer in Lacquer thinner myself, cleans a preps plastic a lot better imop.

by:

Easy to install and very sticky. Seems like a great value, but I am waiting for cold weather to try them out.

by:

Customer service was excellent and my order was delivered on time everything is in working condition I would definitely recommend using etrailer ty

by:

These last 1 season tops.

by:

Excellent adhesion to pipe, good wire quality, now I have to wait for it to get cold to see if it works!

by:

Pads came ripped.

  • Can Holding Heat Tank Pads and Elbow Heat Pads Run on Different Switch
Yes, since the holding tank pads operate on a thermostat and turn on automatically, a different switch makes sense with the ThermaHeat RV Holding Tank or Step Heater Pad with Thermostat # 277-000164 and Elbow Heating Pad # 277-000161. For the switch I recommend the Universal-Design Rocker Switch # PK34310.

  • Heating Pads for 50 Gallon Fresh Water Tank
For your 50 gallon fresh water tank you will want to use two of the ThermaHeat RV Holding Tank or Step Heater Pad w/ Thermostat # 277-000163 wired together. You can use the ThermaHeat Elbow Heating Pad # 277-000161 as well, but this is a pad for 3 inch pipes so you will want to put it there as opposed to your tank. You can wire these together in parallel by "daisy-chaining" each of the red wires together and connecting them to your RV's battery; you will then also daisy-chain the white...

  • Heating Pads for Holding Tank and Pump on Class B RV
Since your tank is 26 gallons having only 3/4 of heating pad # 277-000164 on the tank would only cover 21-3/4 gallons. What I purpose instead is to use the whole pad on the tank and use a separate pad, just as # 277-000161 or # 277-000162 for the pump. That way you will get the most out of each heating pad. The paper does have to be removed otherwise something could occur that could potentially burn the paper and that could lead to other issues. But if you go with my plan of using 2 pads...

  • Can More than One Heating Pad be Used on a 100 Gallon Fresh Water Tank
You could use more than one holding tank heater if you wanted to and there are different options available. Pad heater # 277-000164 is one option. There is also another model, # 277-000163, with different dimensions. We also have elbow heater pad # 277-000161 (for 3 inch pipe) and # 277-000162 (for 1-1/2 inch pipe). And we have several self-regulating heating elements: # W01-1572 (15 feet), # W01-1573 (25 feet), and # W01-1574 (50 feet). These were designed for freeze protection for holding...

  • Can ThermaHeat RV Pads be Run Off of 12V Power - EMAILED LASALLE BRISTOL
Both ThermaHeat RV Pads # 277-000161 and # 277-000162 that you referenced are designed for 12V systems so they will work if you're just using the house battery bank on your rig. Since the optimal voltage from a 12V system is around the 13.5 mark that's why the specs list it as that.

  • Options For Heating And Insulating 1/2" Pex Pipes
Hello Kurt, about how long is that section of pipe in your picture? Both the 8 inch long # 277-000162 and the 13 inch long # 277-000161 are safe to use with 1/2" pex pipes. Using a larger pad will provide more heat so if you can fit the larger pad that will be your best bet. Keep in mind that these pads were made for a 3" diameter pipe, so you might need to get creative in order to fit it to a 1/2" pex pipe. Adding additional insulation is also a good idea, although we do not offer any...

  • Recommended Heating Pad to Keep Battery Warm in Freezing Weather
I recommend using one of the Kat's Heaters pads, like part # KH22200, from the linked selection as they are specifically designed for batteries. These do plug into an AC power source though so you would need access to that kind of outlet or use an inverter like the Go Power # 34280175 or Wagan # WC3720 to convert DC power to AC power for the heater. I would be hesitant to use one of the ThermaHeat RV Dump Valve Pipe and Elbow Heating Pads, like part # 277-000161 that you referenced, on...

Sorry to hear that your heating pads part # 277-000162 and part # 277-000161 are not working properly. I spoke with my contact at Therma Heat who said that there are a few things that you can do to troubleshoot them. You will want to check the following: Make sure they are getting appropriate voltage supply (13.5V DC) Make sure the polarity of the connections is correct. Make sure the total amp draw on the circuit is appropriate for its’ capacity. Make sure the placement of the pad is...

  • Can ThermaHeat RV Dump Valve Pipe and Elbow Heating Pad Have Insulation Over Them?
The ThermaHeat RV Dump Valve Pipe and Elbow Heating Pad - 13" Long x 3" Wide # 277-000161 should not be installed with insulation over it. It is designed and has been tested in a cold room for temperatures as low as -32 degrees and still function correctly. You can use insulation on the areas leading up to the pad, but it shouldn't touch or cover the pad. The pad has an internal thermostat that wouldn't work properly if covered.

  • Does the ThermaHeat RV Dump Valve Pipe and Elbow Heating Pad 277-000161 Have a Built-In Thermostat
The ThermaHeat RV Dump Valve Pipe and Elbow Heating Pad # 277-000161 will need to be wired to a switch like the Universal-Design Rocker Switch # PK34310 to be turned on and off. The ThermaHeat RV Dump Valve Pipe and Elbow Heating Pad # 277-000161 will constantly be on when the switch is turned on, it does not have a built-in thermostat to turn it off. We do have the ThermaHeat RV Holding Tank or Step Heater Pad w/ Thermostat # 277-000164 available, which does have a built-in thermostat.

This means that you will daisy-chain all of the positive (Red) wires together and connect them to the battery on your RV, and you will daisy-chain all of the negative (White) wires together and ground them. The operation of the thermostat on one pad will have no effect on the others. For longer wire runs to the battery you can use Deka # 16-1-1 wire in 16 gauge. • Is There Guide on How Many Thermaheat Elbow Heaters to Use
Thermaheat does not have a specific recommendation on how many heating pads to use like with the # 277-000161 that you referenced. You'd have to use your best judgment based on the climate and setup of the pipes on your RV. This was mainly designed for keeping the valves warm but you can use as many as you like. I was not able to pull up the Ultraheat guide you mentioned.

We have part # 277-000162 which is 8" x 3" and part # 277-000161 which is 13" x 3". Either one of these will do a great job keeping your water pipes warm as long as they do not exceed 3" in diameter. • Is 13 Inch Elbow Heater Pad 277-000161 Big Enough for a 10 Gallon Tank
Since a 10 gallon tank is not very large the 13 inch elbow heater pad # 277-000161 could be sufficient. Although if the tanks are all right next to each other you might be able to use a total of 2 of the 25 inch by 7-1/4 inch heaters # 277-000163. Two of the 25 inch models will draw about 11.6 amps at 13.5 volts compared to 2-1/2 amps from 4 of # 277-000161. In short the 25 inch models are larger and draw more power and thus should also provide more heat when properly installed.
