Hey guys. Today we're gonna be going over the Kuat Envy 2.0 bike rack. Here on our twenty, twenty-one BMW X5. So the Envy 2.0 is definitely gonna be a premium bike rack option. It's gonna look very nice and the back of your vehicle here. Now a couple of different things.
Number one and part of the reason why it stands out so much is gonna be the finish. The finish it just looks really nice. Now in regards to the number of bikes you can carry. Right now it's set up as a two bike rack. But there's also a two bike add-on you can add as well to carry up to four bikes.
So another great feature about our Kuat bike rack is that it has a built in tilt away feature. Now essentially what this does is it allows us to get into the hatch of our vehicle here without removing the bike rack We'll simply pull this lever here, tilt it back. It'll stop automatically and then we can get into the hatch of our vehicle. So the envy is gonna be a wheel mount bike rack. So it's gonna be great for any of our bikes that have a carbon fiber frame.
Such as we see here. Cause you're not actually supposed to use a frame hook on the carbon fiber it could damage it. However, there is one thing that you wanna check for before you purchase a wheel mount bike rack. And that's to make sure you don't have any fenders. It will not work with any bikes that have fenders.
But as long as you're within the weight capacity and you don't have fenders the Envy 2.0 is gonna be an excellent option. So in regards to weight capacity it is gonna be sixty pounds per bike. So it will even be able to carry some electric bikes assuming they're under that sixty pound mark. So in regards to tire size we're gonna have plenty of different options. If we have any fat bikes we're gonna be able to use those as longs as the tires do not exceed 4.8 inches. We also, so we can accommodate the larger fat tire bikes But as you can see here there's gonna be a channel at the bottom so we can definitely carry the skinny road tire bikes as well. It's gonna drop nicely in there. Fit nice and snug. So in order to get our bikes on and off the rack it's super simple. The first thing that we're gonna do is we're gonna come down here to the rear. We're gonna remove this wheel strap. We simply press in on that gray button there so that we can pull it out. Then we'll set our strap aside. Now what we're gonna do is we're gonna grab the a hold of the top tube of our bike here because we're gonna remove the frame hook. We need to make sure that we have a hold of our bike because if we don't and we remove the frame hook it could fall into our vehicle and cause damage. So we'll simply press this button here. Lift it up. Fold it down. And now we're ready to take our bike off. So we have a couple measurements for you here. The first one we're gonna take is from the bumper to the outer edge of our bike rack here. Just letting you know the overall length of your setup And that's going to be right at about thirty-five inches. And now what we're gonna do is we're gonna activate the stoat feature. Which is essentially how we're gonna be driving around town if we don't have our bikes installed we still wanna keep out rack on the vehicle. Simply pull that lever there. And fold it up till it lapse into place. So now we're gonna give you another measurement here from the hatch or the bumper whatever you wanna call it. To the outer most part of our bike rack. So this will be useful if we're gonna be parking our vehicle in a garage and we wanna leave the bike rack on. We wanna make sure we can fit still. So we'll go ahead and you that measurement now. That's going to be about nineteen inches to the end of this handle here. And then one final measurement just to give you an idea of the ground clearance. That's going to be about twenty and a half inches to the bottom of the shank. So another great feature about the 2.0 is that we have a integrated bike stand. So let's say we're out on the trails and our bike breaks down. We don't wanna call it a day we just ahead back to our vehicle here and make some repairs. And we're gonna have a nice little built in stand that allows us to easily make those repairs. Simply flip that lever out and it can pull it up to the side now I'll lock it in place. Now we have our stand ready. We'll simply loosen the clamps there drop our bike in And then lock it into place and now we can make our repairs as needed. So the Envy 2.0 is a premium bike rack option as we mentioned and with this premium status. We're gonna get things such as integrated locks for not only the bike racks but also the hitch. So here's the integrated locks for a bike. It's pretty simple take it out wrap it around the bikes and secure it back there. What's great is the key for this lock is gonna be the same key we have at the hitch. Which we can take a look at now. So we see down here we have a locking hitch fin which is gonna lock our rack to the vehicle. We also have that cable lock that we just showed you. Which locks our bike to the rack. So another great feature of the 2.0 is that we have a no tool design. Meaning that we don't have to worry about carrying any wrenches and sockets with us. To able to attach the rack to our vehicle we have this little tensioning knob here. You can loosen it up or we can tighten it. So what this does when we really crank that down is it also draws the shank inside to the receiver tube. it sorta pins it in there so we're not gonna as much rattle in movement. So now let's go ahead and take a ride over to our test course so we can see how our bike rack performs. This is our test course. Let's start with a swallow. Let's show a side to side action. Such as turning corners or evasive maneuvering. Then on to out alternating speed bumps. This shows piston action such as heading curves, potholes, road debris. Or ever uneven pavement. Last of all, the sold speed bumps. This shows up and down action. Such as driving through a parking lot or parking garage. Or driving in and out of a drive way. So in regards to weight this two bike version here it is gonna come in at about fifty pounds. Which is still manageable for one person to get it on and off a vehicle by themselves. And that'll do it today for our look and installation of the Kuat Envy 2.0 bike rack. Here on our twenty, twenty-one BMW X5..

This 2-bike add-on lets you transform your Kuat NV 2.0 Base 2-bike rack (BA22B - sold separately) into a 4-bike rack. It holds 2 bikes by the wheels with adjustable hooks and sliding ratcheting straps. Integrated cable locks included.Excellent rack - rock solid, holds bike without wobbling. Fits 2021 Toyota Rav4 XLE with Toyota Hitch perfectly. Easy to tilt up and down (but it takes 2 hands to do so, which is a little annoying). At the risk of stating the obvious, it is a little annoying to leave it on all the time - I don't like leaving it horizontal for fear that a car will clip it when driving, so I keep it in the raised position.. But this means that I have to lower it every time I want to access my hatch. Lock works well also. The kids bike adapter seems to work fine (only tried once).
One downer - some of the fasteners are already rusting a little (see pic), and I've only had it on my car for 3 months (May to August in PA).
Delivered quickly. Product is as advertised. Best pricing I found anywhere. The rack took ~1 hr to assemble - a bit challenging to figure out but got easier as it progressed. It takes <5 mins to attach this to the base unit rack while mounted on car. This speed of install will make it easier to change between 2 and 4 bike arrangements as needed. Note: the integrated locks have a different key than base unit - will now need to keep a pair of keys handy. Not a huge fan of the integrated locking gizmos - they work but are awkward to engage, these could be designed better for easier use it seems.

Not great, but okay. The locking mechanisms for the cable locks are garbage - they slip out of the ‘holsters’ and drag on the ground and 2 are hence ruined. The overall ability to convert from 2 to 4 bikes with ease is nice, but the locks get zero stars. For as expensive as this rack is, these should be better designed.
First off Etrailer Corp. did a fantastic job with my order. Not only did I get a very good deal. Etrailer Corp went beyond that and quick shipped my order. Carrier assembly was four bolts to install and tightened and the carrier was ready to use. This is the best carrier for anyone that wants a safe way to carry their extra bikes. This easily attaches to my Kuat base carrier to carry additional two bikes. And it is easily comes back off with the removal of two bolts and lock. No more frame scratches and the quickest way to mount or dismount in seconds. You can load and unload in under a minute! Would recommend to anyone.
This bicycle carrier is fantastic! It takes seconds to secure the bicycle to the vehicle and it is very secure. The addition allows 4 bikes and does protrude from the back of the vechicle a bit, but overall a very secure and an easy carrier. Although a bit more expensive than others, this trailer will probably last the for years to come. Etrailer was less expensive than others with free shipping and delivery was very prompt. Will use them again.
Kuat makes the best bike racks and their customer service is top notch. Full stop.

The rack is well made and as sturdy as you would expect from a great company like Kuat. I discovered that I actually have the standard rack instead of the Base, however, other than the finish (this extension is matte black, the standard is gloss), it bolts together perfectly and works fine. Amazing customer service from etrailer as always!

Super solid build. A little tricky to assemble with the bolts since it's so heavy, but with two people it's a 30 minute job.
