Good replacement ratchet component. Softer metal is supposed to wear first, but is sometimes brittle under load. Releasing tension when stored helps this last a lot longer.

Everything is good

This new part was needed on a come-along that I bought on the internet at a discount price. The new part from e-trailer works well and I was lucky to find it on their site. The replacement part like the original has a problem though, it is made of pot metal and can break easily. Mine broke just being dropped to the ground during a job.

I assume making this part pot metal was done to save money in manufacturing since using steel would take extra steps. The consequences is the lever is fragile and easily breaks if dropped into a tool bag for instance. Knowing this I now am very careful not to let the tool lever come in contact with anything.
