Does a 2014 Ford F-150 Have Enough Tongue Weight Capacity to Carry a 387 Pound Motorcycle

Question:

I am in the market for a pickup truck and considering a 2014 Ford F150 XLT. I am attempting to choose the correct vehicle with a high enough max tongue-weight to support the B04100-1 and a motorcycle that weighs 387 lbs. If I read your table correctly then I would need a max tongue weight greater than 500, since 500 only supports the B04100-1 plus 350 lbs. I am over by 37 pounds with no way to lighten that load. So my question is whether a factory hitch with a maximum tongue weight of 500 can be replaced with an aftermarket hitch that would increase the curb weight and make using this carrier possible. Can you provide any insight into this question?

Since there are different configurations of the 2014 Ford F-150, it is going to depend on the specific model. The vehicle will have its own tongue weight capacity, some models may have a higher capacity than others. So knowing that ahead of time will help since it would not help to add a hitch with a high tongue weight capacity of the vehicle cannot handle that much weight as well.

So if you can get an F-150 with enough tongue weight capacity without a factory hitch then you could install Curt hitch # C14002 which has a tongue weight capacity of 1,000 pounds.

That will be more than enough for the etrailer Motorcycle Carrier # e98873. Used on a truck with a tongue weight capacity of 750 pounds or more you could carry a bike weighing up to 500 pounds.

Based on what I saw in the owners manual online, if you got a version of the 2014 Ford F-150 that has the Heavy Duty Towing Package (which may or may not come with a hitch) then it should not be a problem.
