Replacement 5 Leaf Slipper Spring for a Tandem Axle Dump Trailer with Two 6K Axles

Question:

Hello, I have a dump trailer with 2 6000 lbs dexter axles. I need to replace one of the springs and Im considering replacing all four. I contacted the manufacturer. They provided me with the following information: Nuera – 27-211 Replacement Spring Emco 1203T3 - This 2” wide 5 leaf slipper style spring is designed for 5,200 - 7,000 pound suspension systems. Number of Leafs: 5 Capacity: 3,500 Free Length: 26 7/8inch Spring Width: 2inch Free Arch: 3 3/16inch Bushing ID: 9/16inch Interchanges : 72-32 , UNA-232, SH-7232 I crossed this part spec with your site and it seems you have a part with similar specs. 5-Leaf Slipper Spring w/ Hook End for 7,000-lb Trailer Axles - 26-5/8inch Long SP - 232275. Id like to know if there are any specific reasons why I shouldnt upgrade to the more heavy duty 7-Leaf Slipper Spring w/ Hook End for 8,000-lb Trailer Axles - 26-5/8inch LongSP - 285275. The specs appear to be very close, with only a quarter inch difference in the measurement from the center eye to the bottom of the lowest leaf measurement B I appreciate any help you can give.

If your current springs have 5 leaves then going to a 7 leaf spring will increase the height of the trailer a little and make the trailer more susceptible to sway. Regarding capacity if you go with springs rated higher than what is required it will be very stiff and can cause a very rough ride on the trailer. For the best ride I recommend sticking with the recommended size # e74SR and I do recommend replacing all of the springs at the same time to avoid uneven wear.
