Trailer Hitch and 5-Way Wiring Harness for Towing a Jon Boat with a 2007 Honda CR-V
Question:
I have a 2007 Honda CRV base model. What type of hitch package should I get with a 1 7/8 mount and 5 pin wiring attachment? Its a Jon boat weight 150# and trailer thats maybe 400#.

Expert Reply:
If all you plan on towing is the boat and trailer then 200 pound tongue weight capacity and 2,000 pound gross trailer weight capacity of the Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24792 that you have referenced would be a good choice. Check the owners manual on your CR-V because I believe that the towing capacity of the vehicle is 1,500 pounds and it is important that you stay under that.
The correct ball mount for this hitch is # 3592. For a 1-7/8 inch diameter ball use # 19256. And if you ever need a 2 inch ball use # 19258. To add a 5-Way flat trailer connector, you can use # 119177KIT. I have linked installation instructions for the hitch and wiring and a video for the hitch.
