Trailer Hitch Receiver Tongue Weight Capacity for 2019 Ford Ranger
Question:
Hello, my tow hitch that came on my 2019 Ford Ranger says that it has a max of 750 lbs tongue weight. I just ordered the air bag kit from you Saturday. So i am not worried about the suspension. The trailer that i purchased has a tongue load weight of 955 lbs. I do see that you sell the etrailer hitch that has a max tongue weight of 900 lbs. Is that close enough? Please let me know.

The etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish - Class III - 2" # e63ZR has that tongue weight rating of 900 you mentioned with a towing capacity of 8,000 lbs max when used with weight distrubution. This hitch receiver is rated independently of your truck, which when fully equipped is rated for 7,500 lbs maximum towing capacity. You will want to make sure your fully loaded trailer is less than that 7,500 lbs.
First, you can never exceed the tongue weight capacity of the hitch so going over the limit, even a little cannot be advised. Additionally, your vehicle may not be rated for that heavy a tongue weight anyway. Your owner's manual only lists up to 750 lbs tongue weight maximum so you will need to check with the manufacturer before putting more weight on the hitch because the frame or other components may also be limiting factors.
The air bag suspension enhancement you have does not increase the carrying capacity or towing capacity of your truck, but it does help with load leveling and ride comfort. I highly recommend checking with the Ford before towing such a large trailer as it may damage your vehicle and void your warranty. You may need a smaller trailer or a bigger truck as it is likely this combination won't work.
