Video Transcript for RoadMaster 6 Wire Trailer Connector Installation - 2013 Chevrolet Captiva Sport
Today on our 2013 Chevrolet Captiva Sport we're going to install the Roadmaster six-wire trailer connector vehicle end, part number RM-910030-7, in conjunction with the Hopkins mounting bracket, part number HM48605. Now on this application the vehicle has a four-flat connector already previously run for the towed vehicle. We're going to go ahead and cut the zip tie that's holding it so that we can mount the new Roadmaster six-round pin connector. To secure the connector to the vehicle we're going to use the Hopkins six-round bracket. Now to mount our bracket we're going to attach it here directly to the fascia. I'm just going to use some self-tapping screws and I can run them in and secure the bracket in place. So our bracket's a little more aesthetically pleasing we're going to go ahead and bend it down so it sits a little more flush with the front of the vehicle.
There, now with a good secured mount we're ready to go ahead and bring in the new six-round connector. Now in order to install our new six-round we got to cut off the old four-flat. Using a pair of side cutters we can remove it and start to install the new six-round. I'm going to take the cover off the back and slide it over the wires. Then we'll go ahead and strip back our wires so that we can add them to the back of our six-round connector. At each one of the terminals is a set screw.
I'm going to go ahead and back that set screw out and prepare to install my wiring. I'll start by going ahead and stripping back the wires. I like to twist them together to make sure they're nice and tight to fit inside our connector. We want to make sure we get about 3/8" of wire hanging out. Don't want it to short because then it won't make a good connection, but we don't want it too long that it will hang outside of the post we're going to secure it to.
We make sure we back out the set screws. Following the marked terminals here at the 5:00 position looking at back of the connector it will be for the passenger side turn signal. At the 7:00 position is the driver side turn signal. Up here about 10 going on 11:00 is our ground or our white wire. Here at the very top the TM stands for trailer marker lights for our running light circuit. Starting at the very top we'll take our brown wire, feed it into the back of the connector, and then use our set screw to secure it.
I'm going to just go in reverse order here. Our white wire goes in the pin that was at the 10-11:00 position marked G for ground. Then our 7:00 position is for the driver side turn signal and brake, which will be our yellow wire. Then the 5:00 position is going to be again for our passenger side turn signal and brake. That's our green wire. Now once we have them all installed we'll go ahead and tighten them down. Now with our connections made I'm just going to slide the wires through the opening in the bracket. We'll go ahead and put our connector onto the bracket and slide the cover back in place. Now using the hardware provided with the bracket we'll go ahead and secure the connector to the bracket. We got our bolt. It will go through the connector, through the bracket, then a flat washer and then a nut. Now once we have our hardware installed finger tight we'll go ahead and run it down. Just like that we've gone ahead and removed the old four-flat connector and installed our new six-round connector for towed vehicles. Now with everything installed we're ready to hit the road. That will do it for the install of our Roadmaster six-wire trailer connector vehicle end, part number RM-910030-7, in conjunction with the Hopkins mounting bracket for four, five, or six-round trailer connectors, part number HM-48605, on our 2013 Chevrolet Captiva Sport. .

I purchased the mounting bracket and knockout adapter (HM47605) for installing on my 2017 Dodge Caravan. The hole in the bracket is noticeably larger than the diameter of the adapter. The adapter, when pushed into the hole of the bracket, flops all around and is not at all secure in the bracket. It seems like there should be some sort of spring clip, snap ring or some other means by which the adapter is held tightly into the bracket. I tried placing a bead of RTV silicone around the outside edge of the adapter, in hopes that it would hold it into the bracket.....no success. I'll try and figure some way of making it work, but it just appears to be a bad design fit to me.

- Distance Between Mounting Holes for Hopkins 4, 5, and 6-Way Connector Mounting BracketI went out to the warehouse and pulled the Hopkins 4, 5, and 6-Way mounting bracket # HM48605 to measure it for you. The outer most holes are 2-7/8 inches apart on center. The inner set are 1-7/8 inches apart on center. The holes are just a hair over 1/2 inch apart on center if looking at 2 that are side by side. And the top mounting holes are 2-1/2 inches apart on center. The overall height of the bracket is 2-3/4 inches and it is 15/16 inches deep. I made a picture of this bracket for you.

Richard,Thank you for your review. I see that you purchased part # 43455 for a 2000 Toyota Rav4. This is a hopkins 4-pole flat trailer connector. For a 4-pole flat you will need mounting bracket part # 18144. For a no-drill option, use this part with the Short Bracket part # 18140 or Long Bracket part # 18136.
