Gen-Y Adjustable 2-Ball Mount w/Stacked Receiver And Hitch Mounted Bike Rack

Question:

I have purchased one of these receivers and expect delivery shortly from etrailer. My question regards the 2-Ball Mount. I plan to add a receiver bike rack but I may need about another 12-15 between the trailer tongue jack and the bike rack to accomodate an e-bike. I also may need another 2 to make my T@B trailer more level. So, is there an optional ball mount receiver I may purchase to safely add to the work with the Gen-Y? Ill know more preceisely what I need once a I receive the product from Gen-Y and assemble everything. Thanks

It sounds like you're trying to mount a bike rack on your Gen-Y Ball Mount using a hitch adapter on the top receiver with enough clearance to not interfere with your trailer's jack.

I'm not going to tell you that you can't do this (and Gen-Y says it's ok to do), but honestly, I think your best bet is returning the Gen-Y 5" Rise/Drop # 325-GH-214 that you just bought and going with one that can give you the rise you need without using a hitch adapter for your accessory. My concerns with this are:

1) that when you use a hitch adapter like the Curt # D210, you lose 50% of the tongue weight and towing capacity of that mount. When you take into consideration the weight of your e-bike and the rack you may not have something that's all that stable.

2) The capacity of the Curt # D210 is only 7500-lbs (GTW)/ 750-lbs (TW) - this may not be enough for what you're towing (if I'm misunderstanding you and you're only trying to use it for the accessory) you'd be better served using

You may need to wait and see exactly how much rise you truly are going to need, but here a few Gen-Y Adjustable Ball Mounts that would give you the rise that you need:

10" rise # 325-GH-525
12-1/2" rise # 325-GH-316
15" rise # 325-GH-317

If you're looking for a new bike rack, you should have a look at the Yakima LongHaul # Y02476 . The LongHaul is a 4 bike rack that comes with hitch and bike locks, and would be perfect for your Gen-Y hitch since it will give you the added clearance you were looking for away from the tongue jack of your trailer. If you're going to be carrying any women's or kids bikes you may need a frame adapter like # Y02531 .
