How to Connect a Bushtec Quantum II Trailer to a 2016 Mazda Miata

Question:

Can you tell me what wiring harness to use on my 2016 Mazda Miata towing a Bushtec Quantum II motorcycle trailer? I believe the trailer has a 6 pin connector? thx

To tow your motorcycle trailer with you 2016 Mazda Miata you will need both a hitch and a vehicle wiring harness.

For the 2016 Miata, if you do not already have a hitch, them I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver, # C11435.The hitch will install to your vehicle without any drilling or welding required.

For a wiring harness, the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness With 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, # C56300 is confirmed to fit the 2016 Mazda Miata. The connector will plug into existing factory plugs on you vehicle.

An adapter will need to be installed to allow you to connect the 6-pole connector on the trailer to the 4-pole connector on your Miata. The Mighty Cord 4 Pole to 6 Pole Adapter, # A10-6034VP, will allow you to connect the trailer's 6 pole to the Miata's 4 pole plug. The Mighty Cord adapter will include a 12-volt power source and brake wire circuit that will connect to a brake controller if applicable.

Make sure you consult your Owner's Manual on any restrictions or limitations that your 2016 Mazda Miata might have for towing a trailer.

Is there a way to get the pin out for the plug? Like the person stated above, I am interested in a bushtec trailer as well. Their pin out has: Brake Light, Run Light, Aux Power, Left Turn, Right Turn and Ground. There is no explanation as to what the connector pins that came with this kit do. Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

The brake and turn signals on both the 4-Way connector and the 6-Way adapter will be combined, so to make it compatible with the wiring on your trailer you'll need to use a converter like # C56196 to separate them out.

@ChrisR The Bushtec actually only uses 5 pins of the six pin. They are as follows: Brake Light Run Light Left Turn Right Turn Ground The 4-Way is as follows: LT-Brake RT-Brake Run Ground I think if I come off the 4-Way to the 6-Way like the following, I should be good to go. LT-Brake - LT RT-Brake - RT Run - Run Ground - Ground Thoughts?

@ScottJ I wouldn't hurt to try it. I'm not sure the lights would function correctly but there's no harm in hooking them up to be sure. It would definitely make it a lot easier.

I need to connect a Slingshot to a Bushtec trailer that has 6 wires? What wiring harness do I need to buy?

Does the Bushtec trailer actually have a 6-Way connector or does it just have 6 wires hooked up to a 4-Way connector? I would think a 4-Way is more likely, so if this is the case, you'll need to go with a universal hardwire kit like the Tekonsha # 18252 that just splices into the Slingshot's tail light circuits.
