Matte black, powder coated steel is durable and corrosion resistant and creates a rugged look.I bought this item convins being I will get the best deal. As of item it is good but WRONG finished . The left part (the one opposed to exhaust) much bent inside. See the attached pictures. That made installation almost impossible. The cutting for mud plastic protection is wrong, very wrong represented. Good for me because I am fabricator and auto mechanic with all skills and tools. I attached a picture for someone who still wants to take chance buying one. But be prepared with a helper next to you if you do not to take to a specialized shop. One think is for sure , time for installation from factory is a joke, unless they do take care of the original problem the left end bended. Do not believe it can bent with hammer. If it was finish as it should be, it was perfect. After all my work it looks and works well. For that reason I gave only 3 stars. Otherwise joyfully I would gave 5 stars.
A real pain to install when you do it in a carport--by yourself. Get a buddy to help you!! My only concern is that the hitch center is about 3/4" off the center line of the vehicle and I am unable to correct the issue. A little bit clearer instructions on trimming the plastic inserts would have been nice.

This hitch arrived timely, looks really good and appears to be well built. Upon installation however I found that getting it into place required forcing it up to the frame rails with a floor jack. 5 of the 7 bolt ones lined up well, one I was able to persuade, with great force, and one… forget it, it probably would have required re drilling. I expect to have to finesse add ons to a certain extent, but if you think this will “bolt right up” you’ll be disappointed. I’m sure the welds warped it up of shape a little but i would expect to manufacture to straighten it back out before it goes in the box. Otherwise etrailer was great as usual. I didn’t ask for a replacement but I’m sure they would have made it right.

It sounds like your hitch arrived flexed. It is easier to bend back than you might think! We have a help article that outlines a few different way to do fix a flexed hitch. I have attached that link.

Fit was perfect, and the install was very simple. I have not towed with it yet, but I have every confidence it will perform just fine. Shipping was rough and it did have a chip on the bottom corner, but it's a hitch, and nothing a little spray paint didn't fix.
Ordering process was excellent and hitch was shipped same day and I received it the next day in Illinois. This hitch was a perfect fit and only took approximately 1 1/2 hour to install on my grandsons Highlander. I have purchased numerous times from E Trailer and they always exceed my expectations. I highly recommend this hitch and E Trailer.
Installed on a 2009 Toyota Highlander and it fits but the driver side was bent in so bad I had to use my scissor jack to push it in to place over the bolt. I was able to install the receiver in about 30 minutes by myself and the last bolt took an additional 15.
Perfect fit for Toyota Highlander. Excellent customer service team to help select correct part numbers.
no instructions, no hardware, bent and chipped brackets.
Waste of time and had to buy my own nuts and bolts and spend time online looking for the video just to be told thst i need to follow a diagram (not included) to cut the underbody panels...I should have went to U Haul and gotten the hideaway hitch for $30 more

Yikes! I am sorry that the hitch arrived missing the manual, the instructions and was chipped. I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you.
Box arrived via UPS and was ripped open at the corner. I was worried that the hardware was missing but eTrailer was smart enough to tape the hardware into the receiver so it was all accounted for. The hitch is sturdy and seems well made. You definitely need two strong people for the install and either use a lift or ramps so you have more room to work. The only issue we encountered was that the middle hole on the driver’s side was a hair off which would have made the bolt go in sideways. With a lot of muscle we were able to get the hitch aligned to insert the bolt. Having to seriously struggle with the middle hole on the driver’s side for about 20 minutes made my rating 4 stars instead of 5. In total it took us about 2 hours to complete and we have some mechanical experience. All in all, the price was good, quality seems good, I would recommend this hitch.

A year later and the hitch is still holding up nicely! Great for hauling mulch and wood pellets in our utility trailer.

After a year I could not ask for a better product. Solid....no rust....just perfect. Would recommend!
Purchased this for hauling mtb bikes on the back of our old highlander. Etrailer was recommended by a popular local hitch shop as they had no stock in inventory for our vehicle. Package arrived quickly, the box was a bit beat up, but the hitch was in good condition with no obvious blemishes/issues. Started installation on passenger side and found driver side bolt holes to be off by as much as 1.5". Followed instructions on [etrailer], using a 2x4 and car jack to spread out mounting brackets and after futzing for a bit, fit no problem. Some pointers.. much easier to install with 2 people; measure gaps before starting to force spread mounting brackets so you don't have to check by 'fit test'; only had to cut a small amount out of driver side plastic underbody panel to get back on, passenger side didn't need any; overall plan on 2-3 hours start to finish. Took a star off because of dealing with re-aligning mounting brackets, otherwise looks good and is solid.

Tow hitch was a bargain, arrived fast, fit perfectly. YouTube video helped for installation.
Delivery, service and price are excellent. I only gave it a 4 star because when installing the trailer hitch the holes were off by about 1" and took some time to make everything fit.

I am glad that you got it to work out Jan. Sometimes hitch receiver brackets can be flexed and need some bending back into alignment. There is more about it in this help article:

2013 Highlander. Hitch previously installed and removed before I bought the car. Hitch was delivered timely, Fit perfectly, installed myself in 1 hour. No problems. bolt patterns were good.
Ready to install my hitch to pull my new Taxa Tiger Moth! Just got off the phone with Candra who helped me with the correct wiring I need. Can't wait to get camping! Thanks etrailer!

It’s still working great. I have hauled many things and when I installed this I was moving into a new house. It paid for itself the first week. Sturdy construction and it looks great.
Easy to navigate the web page and find the right hitch receiver for my vehicle. Transaction was smooth and the hitch arrived on time. Second one I've bought from etrailer and things have gone smoothly both times.
It's perfect, sturdy and better than I thought.

Excellent quality and well worth the price. Installed on 2008 Toyota Highlander and zero issues after towing a heavy steel trailer 300+ miles.
Received with damaged packaging. Hitch receiver is intact.

Excellent product! I have had my etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver for 1 year now and it is an excellent product that has not deteriorated in quality one bit since installation. All of the bolts came with the kit, and it arrived in good condition. The finish is excellent and is a perfect fit for my vehicle.
This product was extremely hard to install. The metal was about 2 inches bowed inward when we received it, and we had to bend it out with a wooden block to install properly which was very hard and time consuming. Once the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver was installed, everything was in perfect working condition and there have been zero issues since.
took me about 2.5 hours start to finish. luckily a neighbor walked by at the moment I needed a little help lifting it and holding it in position to get the first bolts started. The templates for trimming the plastic panels wasn't quite right. The trim panel on the passenger side didn't actually need any cutting and I put it back in place fully intact. Drivers side trim panel did need a narrow cut to accommodate the hitch, but I recommend holding it up and eyeballing it rather than following the provided template that would have you cut a hole in the wrong place and removing more panel coverage than needed. Looks clean and feels strong. be careful not to cross thread the bolts, one of the welded frame nuts that was covered by a rubber gromet was pretty rusty and had to be threaded. As others experienced, I also had to use a clamp/vice to get the holes to all line up, but it wasn't too hard. I like the matte black finish.

So when it comes to shipping, it is very common for hitches to bend. You can use a vise to bend it back into place. Please see the link below for more details.
