Towing Capacity and Recommended Hitch and Wiring Harness for 2008 Toyota Highlander w/ Tow Package
Question:
I need to tow a Triton Boat from Wisconsin to Texas approx. 4500lbs. Will my 2008 Toyota Highlander be able to do it without over stressing it. I believe my Highlander has the towing package which gives it the 5000lb towing capability. Or do you think that is pushing it? I do not currently have a hitch installed so I plan to purchase one for it. Thanks

I would be happy to help you. I did some research on the internet and found out that the 2008 Toyota Highlander, is rated from 2,000 lbs to 5,000 lbs towing depending on the package your Highlander has. This could include anything from a wiring harness, suspension upgrades, to a transmission cooler and the only way to really be certain is to call Toyota with your VIN and have them confirm your actually capacity.
If you are at the high end of the capacity then you will have plenty of ability to tow your 4,500 lbs Triton Boat. You will need a trailer hitch, wiring harnesses (you will need two), brake controller, and a ball mount kit. I will list these parts below and also attach any videos we have that will help you with the installation process. I am only going to attach parts that work with the towing package because I strongly recommend you do not attempt to tow your boat if you do not have the capacity to.
