Dexter Accessories and Parts - T2385200

  • Trailer Brakes
  • Hydraulic Drum Brakes
  • Breakaway Kit
  • Parking Brake
  • Dexter

Manual parking brake kit works with hydraulic drum brakes that have a parking brake linkage already installed. Doubles as an emergency mechanical breakaway system.

Features:

  • Manual parking brake is convenient and easy to use
    • Lever mounts to trailer tongue for simple access
  • Backup breakaway system ensures that trailer stops in event of separation from tow vehicle
  • Kit includes:
    • Brake lever with spacer
    • Front and rear cables
    • Mechanical breakaway chain
    • Spring, clamps, S-hooks, washers and nuts for installation
  • Hydraulic drum brake assemblies require parking brake linkage to work with kit

Specs:

  • Cable length: 183"
  • 1-Year warranty

To install, the parking break cable is fed through the brake's backing plate and attached to the park linkage. If breakaway occurs, the mechanical breakaway system will pull the lever that is mounted on the tongue to the "on" position. The rear cable then tugs at the park linkage inside the brake to activate it.

The product is fine it’s etrailer that has issues.
Packaging is horrible. Product arrived in its OEM box that has holes on each end to act as grab handles. Obviously to most this would be a problem especially since the parts were loosely thrown into the box. Also only one piece of packaging tape was used that was not functioning when the package arrived.
Now I have to take more time to identify which parts are missing.

  • Recommendation for Adding Parking Brake to Electric Trailer Brake Assemblies
Most trailers do not come with parking brakes, but you can add them with certain electric brake assemblies. If your trailer has 7 inch brakes, then you will want the Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit w/ Parking Brakes - 7" - Left/Right Hand Assemblies - 2.2K # K23-103-104-00. If your trailer has 10 inch brake assemblies, then you will want # K23-086-087-00. These assemblies have a lever and a spring cable location that will give you functionality like a bicycle brake assembly. You will...

  • Adding Brakes vs. Replacing Axle on M105 Trailer
Dexter left and right 12 x 2 electric drum brakes # 23-112 and # 23-113 include a parking brake and are rated for 6K axles. These use a brake flange with a 5-bolt mounting pattern; if you don't have these already they will need to be welded in place by a qualified welder with the correct jigs to align everything. They can be used with Parking Brake Kit # T2385200. These are compatible with most standard 12 x 2-inch hub-and-drum assemblies, including Dexter, Lippert (LCI), and AL-KO, such...

  • Will Titan Parking Brake Kit # T2385200 Work on Tandem Axle Trailer
The only parking brake setup we'd have is for a single axle. Which in a parking brake situation you'd only need one axle to be locked up for it to be effectively held in place. Similar to how the parking brake on a vehicle is normally just for the rear axle and not all wheels.

  • Length of Cable on Titan Breakaway and Parking Kit for Drum Brakes T2385200
The overall length of the cable included with the Titan Breakaway and Parking Kit for Drum Brakes # T2385200 is a bit over 15-feet (183-inches). Half of this length will be on each side of the trailer. My contact at Titan confirmed that the cable cannot be cut but that there is 2-1/2-inches of adjustment possible by rotating the threaded u-shaped yoke at the center of the main cable. This yoke is shown in the photo I linked for you. This will shorten both sides of the long cable by the...

  • Is Trailer Parking Brake Tied Into Surge Brake Actuator for Drum Brakes
The majority of trailer parking brakes are not built into or tied into the brake actuator. The cables are instead run to a manual lever that is used to physically engage or disengage the mechanism like that on the Titan Breakaway and Parking Kit for Drum Brakes part # T2385200. Therefore, you don't have to worry about the actuator being compatible. I have attached a photo below for reference.

I contacted Titan and you can install the lever of the Titan Breakaway and Parking Kit for Drum Brakes part # T2385200 to the side of the tongue as long as you keep the cables straight to be able to activate the breakaway if the trailer disconnects. The bracket for the lever (that part that attaches to the trailer tongue) is about 10" long. You do want to be sure your braking assemblies are equipped to add a parking kit. • Hand Brake Recommendation for Timbren Axle Less System
To use a hand brake like the part # T2385200 with the Timbren system part # ASR35HDS02 that you referenced you will need to use a hydraulic drum brake with a parking brake linkage. Since the recommended hub/drum is the part # 8-201-9UC3-EZ which is a 12 by 2 inch drum the correct left hand brake assembly would be the # T2351300 and the right hand side would be # T2351200. On a 10 inch brake assembly such as # 23-468 the magnet draws 3.2 to 4 amps at 12 to 13 volts.
